Welp looks like I will be starting up a new LP tonite - almost 12am here as of typing this. I will be livestreaming every session and I have updated the game to the newest SVN. I think I have anyways I did do everything that was listed in the "how to install SVN" section.

Anyways as usual I will be going for Diety and Nightmare mode and seeing how far I can go and hopefully winning. I will be keeping the Mercy mode on as I do not really wanna see someone get soooo far ahead that the game becomes one sided.

Last game I played on a standard sized map, I felt this was still a bit too large at times and I still felt there were massive delays between turns even as early as my last game finished. So I think I will be going one map size smaller.

As for settings I think I will be going for Raging Barbs, No revolts, No TD, Minor Civs off, S&D off, Ruthless AI, Divine Prophets, Infinite XP, Developing Leaders, Nightmare Mode, More XP to Level, No teleporting captured animals, Animals can come into the borders, Neanderthal Cities, Cities start with 1 tile and Realistic Culture Spread - I believe this is everything that is necessary to be mentioned?

I will post the Set-Up video in the next comment

I will be restarting this playthrough as I incorrectly installed the SVN versions. I will be restarting as Saladin and all other options the same as above - however I will be changing the animal stuff as the no teleportation and the animals coming into the borders was more of a nuisance than a way to make the game more difficult

If you post your youtube vids on twitter, @ me in the post and I'll retweet them as well. I wish I could personally find time to watch more of these but I love that they are being done.

Not a problem @Thunderbrd all my vids kinda get autoposted onto twitter but I am sure I can find the time to @you as well.

Also on a side note I will be posting on here each time I livestream

I am livestreaming now just in case anyone would like to know - I got saladin as well

lastly here is the set-up video

Heya IdioticUlt1mara, just wondering, are you sure you installed the SVN version correctly? Looking at the setup you posted on youtube, it says "Nightmare Mode" which is the same as vanilla V37. Shortly after vanilla V37 the difficulty of nightmare mode has been upped considerably, and renamed to "Nightmare Mode (Deity Only)". The reason I checked was because in the stream on mixer.com you kept up somewhat with the AI, instead of the AI racing far ahead in tech.

In the game, if you hover over the big flag in the bottom right corner (left of the minimap) it tells you the version you are playing (Caveman2Cosmos build ....(game saved from build ...) ) . If you are on build V37 vanilla it says 9396.

N.B. The flag version is a small number of versions behind the actual version. According to the SVN Changelog, Vanilla V37 is 9402

I have played both V37 Nightmare and SVN version Nightmare and believe me, the SVN version is a LOT harder.

P.S. regarding today's lifestream, if you have negative education, your free specialist vanishes.

@Noriad2 thank you I was unaware of the negative education thing. It was also seeming a bit too easy for me - as I feel like I can easily destroy Menzies at this moment in time. I will double check the version and double check if I have updated the SVN correctly. I followed everything that was said on the SVN section to the T so I have no idea how I got it "wrong".

I will defo restart this playthrough if I have not installed the SVN version correctly

@Noriad2 I double checked the version and it was version build 9396 - so yeah I messed up the SVN somehow. I will fix this now and restart the playthrough as I was finding Diety mode in the current V37 fairly easy

ok so I updated it - it is definately updated to the most recent SVN now. However I kinda have a bare map - I cannot see any of the options or the map. Any idea what could be the problem? Do I have to copy/pasta the SVN folder over the caveman2cosmos folder or what?

Update - I managed to fix it ^^

SVN version is a complete version. You don't have to copy/paste over anything. In fact it is better to delete everything - contents from Caveman2Cosmos folder and cache folder.

I am livestreaming again and well the AI have completely wrecked me - also had a terrible start. The AI just finished a wonder from copper working tech, cahokia mounds, and I am researching adhesives atm.

I am actually now wondering if this game is too far out of my hands to even give it a good old college try? Any thoughts?

Heya IdioticUlt1mara,

Just saw the stream. Yes you are in deep trouble. If you continue, you may make the first C2C Let's Play where the player actually gets defeated.

Not sure how you could have avoided it. Your starting position sucked and getting no cash from goody huts sucked also.

Personally, I would not have destroyed that first barb city. I'd have waited until it was pop size 2 then do whatever needed to take it over. A 2nd city boosts tech production by a lot and is very useful given that Tribalism is somewhat far away.

Also given the limited territory I would have made a tracker/hunter for hunting. Giving it hunting upgrades increases the chance of subduing animals.

You can set storytellers to build up education for extra education production. Which means you need less units for the same education. Also, some city specialists give +xp for education units built in the city (if the game option is turned on). Which means you can give them promotions that give additional education (depending on which promotions are unlocked). Very useful given that on V37.5 deity/nightmare, once you run out of free units, every additional unit costs 6 gold.

Not sure why your raft couldn't transport a unit. Last time I played with rafts was V33, and then it could transport a unit. I don't know when and how unit transport gets unlocked for rafts. If you figure it out, perhaps you could build an extra raft to scout the small island to the south. Maybe it connects to a larger landmass.

I do believe V37.5 deity/nightmare is winnable but it requires a decent starting position and very sharp playing from beginning to end. And even then, it is rough rough rough all the way.
