A peacefull world

U don't have to be the underdog.the whole point of the game is too destroy eachother.THERE IS NO PEACE!I've tried peace on many occasions, just to have the peace treaties broken and my cities come under fire. There is no way for peace to succeed. The AI is just too Jealous of the human player's power.

Ok sure

Since I consider my playing style the outgrowth of my personality, I tend to side with Cube. If the computer leaves me alone (like that happens very often), I leave it alone.

As for War, I think Jacob Bronowski said it best: "War is organized theft." If you find yourself feeling bloodthiirsty and power-hungry every time you play a game, you might want to seek psychiatric care.

Cube: do you select your opponents and pick the peaceful ones? This can help cut down on armed conflict.

I never select my opponents.
I am not all peace I try and be more like the U.S. in the world and if a civ is getting too cocky and mean I have to reduce most of there cities to rubble until they beg me to stop and give me money!
then after that I dont destroy there last city instead I back out my troops and protect that civ from others until they get back on there feet and can protect themselfs from AI invasions!

I am warlike in the early BC years as was true for almost all civ then. I wipe out nearby civs early (I set the rules for restart dead civs) but turn peaceful as soon as I have republic or democracy. After that I do not declare or provoke wars, but all the other civs attack me sooner or later because I lead the power graph and do give them any gifts. When they attack I typically crush them down to one city.

how dose this line of troops work?

If you get in between two rivil civs, your more then likly to be attacked by one of them or both. Alot of civs are close together and battles can be forght round cities making it hard to get your troops in there without causing an insedent and if you did get this line of troops seperating them, the two civs will eventualy build next to your troops and ask you to leave there land usless you are allied. It has bein extremly hard in my experence to obtain allied treaties with all the civ in your world.

I myself prefer a peacful victory if I can manage it but have jet to play a game that even comes close, other civs become really teasty in the later half of CIV II.

I dont always use the line of people tactic I just try and keep a good amout of people between both civs and keep them fortified and It would not work if you are allied with them because then you have no zone of control to seperate the to civs and if they attack me that wall bettween the two civs will suddenly fall on them and reduce there citys to rubble but not kill them!
paratroopers work good for the line espesally if the line is on hills and mountains!

How do you do it? I mean make peace with every body? I can never get the AI civ to make peace with me let alone alliances. I talk to them i send them gifts and they hate me.

Is it just because i'm so much stronger than them..I don't think so, i'm playing a game on king right now where everyone is about equal. They HATE me! I cant do it.

THey used to be at peace with me all the time when i was at lower levels like warloard but the higher up you go the harder it gets.

I can send them 1000g's before a cease fire is out, and they'll still attack me on there next turn. My reputation never goes below "Questionable" I need some Expert help.

My reputation never goes below spotless!
and thats why I said it is a very hard thing to do I many times lose millons of troops in order to keep the peace!
and one of the best things Ive found to do is to make peace with them and not talk to them after so you wont piss them off (or them piss me off) with mindless negotiations!

My reputation never goes below Spotless either. Why would it need to? I still find I can choose whether to keep the peace (for a spaceship game), or taunt the others to declare war (for a world domination game).

Making peace and giving all the other civs all your techs is useful when you're trying to go for a really early spaceship launch, as you have seven tribes researching for you rather than just one! However, I find peace is only really important when you want the extra points for your score in the endgame.

But the underdog - that is, the least developed civ scientifically - seems to be there for just one reason: to take over all except one city and keep as a pet for the endgame!
