A Pet Peeve: Ancient Towers

Actually, they are still doing that, such as putting a mine on a raw mana node and I think I saw a fort on a mana node in my last game. I think they used the mana nodes the normal way once they had the ability though.

Yeah, I didnt mind them building on top the space as long as it doesnt allow them to gather the bonus. The Ai knows it cant do anything to gather raw aman at that time so its just making use of the space until later on.

...
I may make towers razeable.
...
If possible you might want to make them only razeable inside someones territory. Otherwise a player might just raze every tower they find so no one else can use it.

What's wrong with that?

Also, I'm thinking you should make it so that Ancient Towers do not upgrade to forts on their own. They should have to be worked (or at least in your borders), but upgrade at least as fast as Forts do.

Whouldnt it be better if they did upgrade if manned like in AoI (if i don't err here) instead of being worked by townsfolk or being inside borders (and dont make AI stick to them if outside of cultural borders without reason.)? Imo that whould make more sense (and also allow them to develop to strongholds outside of cultural borders if the place is really important) from mechanics as well as Flavor.

I though someone would say that. In that case why have them at all? They'll all just get razed by the second one who finds them (assuming the first person is close enough to actually want to use them), and they'll cease to be an interesting part of the landscape.

I don't think that's quite as likely as you think; the extra vision range from them really can be useful, especially for preventing barb spawning. And since scouts can't raze things anyway, you'll have to actually take the effort of sending a melee unit to raze the tower. Most likely, the only towers that will get razed are the ones that are in someone's way, because those will be the only ones worth taking the effort to raze.

That's just speaking for myself, anyway.

If they're made 'razeable', they should have a chance of spawning a skeleton or spectre or something - ancient warriors defending their garrison long after the battle is over and whatnot. That way there is a risk/reward to razing them.

Ok, player finds tactical advantage that can be utilized by opponent, player has option to destroy said advantage, player does so. If your military finds an abandoned castle in the middle of nowhere, why shouldn't you be able to destroy it? I mean, its not that hard to make a tower fall down. What are these, indestructible towers of doom? It makes no sense to have them indestructible.

Cromwell went around knocking down all the fortified castles in England until he ran out of Gunpowder. There's one in Wales that's only half blown up. Maybe Gunpowder's the requirement.

The part that doesn't make sense is that Citadels and Castles, which Ancient Towers upgrade into, are fully razeable. Why is the upgraded form able to be knocked down, but the base form is somehow completely indestructible?

I like the "raze the tower at your own risk" idea. Maybe one big nasty and a few hanger ons. hmmm Maybe an enraged mary morbis and a few diseased corps. That could ruin your day mate?
