Kuīnrūru of Aokelan

Rao Yingdi (饶英迪), F/22: She has been regnant since the age of fourteen, where her mother and predecessor died in an unfortunate, mysterious accident. Perhaps it was this that made Yingdi into the quiet, scholarly, contemplative, and peaceable queen she is today. She is by all accounts quite amicable to those who come to her court, and quite wise and intelligent for her relatively young age.

Rao Jundao (饶军刀), F/14: Yingdi’s younger sister and, presently, the heiress apparent, who has been for the past several years raised by, and as such is very close to Yingdi. She is now old enough that Yingdi often includes her in court meetings. Unlike her older sister, Jundao is quite adept at the martial arts. Rumour abounds that she has always wanted to be a priestess of Teishutsu.

Realm of Sakada

Tsumetai Kosuchi, F/16: Ruler of the Southern Sakada realm since she was thirteen. She inherited the throne after an infectious disease claimed the life of both her mother Suniwo and her elder sister, leaving Tsumetai as the heir of the realm. She's an intelligent, diligent girl who tends to keep to herself and by all accounts prefers the company of her books to that of the palace courtiers.

Tamunu Kosuchi, F/12 (heir)
The heiress apparent. She turned to spirituality after the sudden death of her mother and eldest sister, and has shown more interest in becoming a priestess of Jùlùjìng rather then the ruler of Sakada. Nevertheless she is next in line, and a popular choice for the more zealous factions in the kingdom.

Muton Kosuchi, M/12
Tamunu's identical twin brother. He's a hard worker studying to be a warrior, but he's best known for his hotheadedness and his love of arguing with others, especially his twin sister.

May Kosuchi, F/9
The youngest sister of the Kosuchi clan. Too young to have any political leanings, she's a troublemaker who's well known for a series of devious practical jokes played on members of the royal court.

Keho Okamoro F/22
A commoner who rose to become chancellor for the kingdom of Sakada. She received the prestigious position when the royal entourage went through her town, and Tsumetai, irritated with the incompetence of her latest chancellor, swore up and down that she could choose any peasant off the streets and they would do a better job then he did. She chose Sakada, who was a shopkeeper's assistant at the time, and much to everyone's surprise she's been pretty good at her job since.

Toki Ayumo F/21
Spiritual adviser to the court. She and her ancestors have advised the Tsumetai on matters of faith and religion for several generations, a legacy which she holds with some pride. She is purported to have a close relationship with Tamunu.

Tonuwo + Uroku, M/23+24
Chief bodyguards and concubines for Tsumetai. Practically inseparable, the two of them are steadfastly loyal to the Tsumetai family and will do all that is asked of them, even offer their advice on a political matter. Somewhat notorious for refusing to wear shirts.

Nothing can be changed or added from here on out.

TE (already told me), Chief, WIM, AA are removed from play.

The excess vassal in California is rolled into the ruling dynasty's territory.

I'm putting RC somewhere because OPM whatever.

Quick Update

The update will go up today or tomorrow. Originally, the update was going to up last night, but I was testing a way to distribute private capital at game start without manually inputting a number (which would require roughly 2,500 entries!)

Backend wise, this means I'm running the update "more than once" to get starting capital accumulation where it should be.

Here is the flow of trade as it stands. Goods flow along the arrows, and it is assumed gold/precious metals/currencies/whatever are flowing the opposition direction.

Expansion and Trade Power

Trade Power/Expansion Power can't be banked! You can use Trade Power on yourself or other countries, which increases your trade influence domestically or abroad respectively. Countries you border/share a river with/share a coast with/whatever have can be influenced more than a distant landlocked country you don't border.

Expansion Power is used to expand. One expansion power can be used to claim one territory.

Preemptive "WTH" Sonereal

It took us like, a month to get to this point. There was that whole downtime thing and, you know, we were overdue for an update.

Everybody is on a gold standard. If you want to get in the dirty, dirty world of monetary policy, the rules are there in the rulesheet. If you don't want to deal with that, don't leave the gold standard for real.

Finally, I love you guys.

Liu Chang traveled to the Imperial Court of Jiajou along with his two sworn brothers. When one of the retainers of the Empress asked him what was his purpose in visiting the Imperial Court, Liu Chang replied: "Tell Her Imperial Highness that I want to serve the country and the people. I know that my abilities are not many and that I am still young, but I nevertheless believe that it is my duty to serve people and Her in such troubled times. I can either lead armies to crush the enemies of the Empire or use my knowledge of finance to bring prosperity to the people. No matter what the task is, I will do my best to accomplish it."

The more somewhat hotheaded sworn brother of Liu, Zhang Wuji, was going to protest because he wanted a military commission only so he could prove his battle prowess, but the third sworn brother, Guan Ying, looked at him angrily and so Zhang did not dare to protest and just sighed.

The retainer looked at the three of them for some time and then left to inform the Empress.

Issues of the Day

Issues of the day are small, Nationstates styled decisions which don't require sending in new orders, but merely a response in thread. When factions are listed, they are listed in this format Name (Support/Strength/Standing).

There likely won't be issues everyday, and not everyone will get one.

Parliamentary Issues

Holy Columbia

MPs representing the interests of the Bureaucracy (0,7,Neutral) have presented a bill to the country's parliament that would grant the bureaucracy increased oversight in local affairs typically administered by the Nobility (-1,3,Neutral). As it stands, the bill is expected to pass and would strengthened the bureaucracy and weaken the nobility.

The Vice President's can remains hand off on the matter, which will not anger either faction. He can intervene on the side of the Bureaucrats, which will please the Bureaucrats but increase the antipathy of all other factions. Finally, he can intervene on the side of the Nobility, which will please the Peasants, Clergy, and Separatist-backed MPs, who do not wish to see the Bureaucracy gain more power, but upset the Merchants, Bureaucrats, and Guilds, who would be pleased to see the Nobility lose more of its privileges.

Factional Issues

Jiajou Dynasty

Representatives representing dozens of villages [Peasants (0,4,Neutral) have approached the Imperial Court seeking redress, claiming that local priests of the Imperial Cults [Clergy (-1,5,Neutral) are abusing their powers in and extracting economic and political gain from their positions, to the detriment of the the villagers.

Those representing the Imperial Cult and its administration says that if there are any abuses, those abuses and punishment thereof should be handled internally and that the peasants have no place to be approaching the Imperial Court for redress.

If the Court sides with the Peasants, they will gain in strength and the Clergy will lose strength. Peasant support will increase for the crown, but the Clergy will join the Opposition as a result. If the Court sides with the Clergy, however, the Clergy will gain in strength relative to the Peasant and the Clergy will be more pleased with the Court. Relationship with the villages would deteriorate.

Republic of Springfield

The Guilds of Springfield (1,5,Neutral) have been up in arms lately over what they see as undue bureaucratic (-1,5,Neutral) overwatch. The Guilds claim that the bureaucracy and its commercial regulations are placing a strain on the Guilds.

If the ruler sides with the Guilds, they will gain power and become a Loyalist faction, a helpful faction to have in a noble republic where the ruling house needs Loyalists to remain in power when a ruler dies. However, siding with the guilds and reining in the Bureaucracy would weaken the latter and make it join the Opposition.

Likewise, the ruler can side with the Bureaucracy, which will increase their power and increase their support of the ruling noble house, but weaken the strength of the Guilds. This move would bring both factions to a more neutral stance.

When you return to the World of the Living, post in thread since I owe you an issue.

Factions Within the Columbian Church:

The Columbian Church is a vast organization which touches upon every aspect of Columbian society. Every noble, freeman and serf has come into contact with the organization either through the vast bureaucracy that it commands, its military and police forces or simply by going to one of their many temples for worship. As expected from such a large organization, it is quite factional. Currently there are three major factions, the power of these factions dwarf any other interest groups within the country.

Watercloaks: (OOC: Bureaucratic Faction) The Watercloaks are currently the most powerful faction within the Columbian Church, which makes them a formidable power inside the whole of Columbia. They are a faction who is interested in expanding the power and the influence of the Church’s bureaucracy over the country, even if said expansion flies in the face of established theology. They have the most influence in the areas of the Church that has little to do with religion, such as the various tax departments, the federal police force and the military. Their name comes from the blue cloaks they wear in lieu of the traditional red cloaks, this was a tradition that came from a group of Supreme Court Justices changing the colour of the cloaks as a form of dissent against the Chief Justice when she campaigned for a law that reduced the power of the Church. The Watercloaks are on bad terms with both of the other factions who both care deeply about the theology that the Watercloaks barely pay lip service to in their quest for power.

Bloodcloaks: (OOC: Clergy Faction) The Bloodcloaks are the second most powerful faction within the Columbian Church. They are a conservative faction who believe in the importance of theology and the status quo, they would only support changes in the structure of the Church or society after a very long consultation period and a careful analysis of theology. They have the most influence in local temples and areas of the Church that primarily deal with theology. Their name comes from the traditional red cloaks that they continue to wear, which represents the divine blood of the Presidents. The Bloodcloaks dislike the Watercloaks for not consulting theology when pushing their agenda, they also disagree with the radical Richmond School of Theology which is what the Snowcloaks believe in. Of the two, the Bloodcloaks prefer the Snowcloaks as they share a common dislike of the Watercloaks’ recent activities.

Snowcloaks: (OOC: Separatist Faction) The Snowcloaks are least powerful faction within the Columbian Church, but even then they are still a force to reckon with. They follow the radical Richmond School of Theology which postulates that the divinity of the President wasn’t necessarily passed down through familial ties and that local polities had much more influence in the old United States of America than more traditional interpretations of theology thought. While they do not have the specialised influence that the other two factions have, the Snowcloaks have members embedded within every major department of the church, especially in the south of the country. Their name comes from the white cloaks that they wear which represents the purity of their beliefs and their devotion to Congress, a practice started by the charismatic founder of the Richmond School who was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. The Snowcloaks deeply dislike the Watercloaks as they hold completely opposing goals. They do like the Bloodcloaks and they have been trying to form a relationships between the two of them to counter the goals of the Watercloaks. The Harwey family deeply distrusts the Snowcloaks, they see them as a threat to their power. They are also deeply concerned by growing relationship between the Bloodcloaks and the Snowclokas. It has been a priority of the Harwey family to limit the power of the Snowcloaks and ensure that they do not try and form a relationship with the Bloodcloaks, as together they could easily overwhelm the Watercloaks and any other opposition to their power.

While the Vice-President would like to build a better relationship with the Watercloaks, he also does not want to alienate the Bloodcloaks and push them closer to the Snowcloaks. Therefore the Vice-President decided to stay neutral in this matter. However, his projects to reconcile the divide between the Watercloaks and Bloodcloaks continue in earnest.

Parliamentary Issues

Factional Issues

Louisiana

Louisianian noble traditions go back centuries, and some would say these traditions, which are colloquially referred to as Southern Knighthood, are older than anything in North America today. These Southern Knights [Nobles (-1,4,Neutral) are now responsible for administering the king's justice throughout the realm, which isn't to say that these local rulers don't often issues their own decrees that they consider stronger than the king's distant word.

The bureaucracy of the kingdom (-1,3,Neutral) wish to change this situation. While nominally working at the leisure of the king, the bureaucracy wishes to expand its power for the sake of power, and if that benefits the central monarchy, well, that is just fine.

The king must take a stance on this growing conflict of interest. If the king supports tradition, the Southern Knights will roll back some of the powers of the Bureaucracy, gaining in strength and increasing their support of the government. This would increase the hostility of the Bureaucracy, which will join the Opposition should the king rule against them.

On the other hand, by supporting the Bureaucracy, the nobility will join the Opposition.

The ball's in your court.

Grand Imperial Duchy of Reikland

Magistrates [Bureaucracy (0,5,Neutral)] of the Imperial Duchy believe that it is time for the kaiser to stamp down on separatist organizations (-1,7,Neutral). For too long, the separatists have tried to maintain autonomy against the Reich.

The standard choice is this. Support the Magistrates in their ongoing quest to increase their reach in the autonomous borderlands? Or support the Separatists against the Magistrates? Supporting the Magistrates on this issue will push the Separatists into the Opposition.

Albaf

The Méridan Council [Bureaucracy (-1,5,Neutral)] isn't the greatest friend of the Sultan. While its leadership is appointed by the Sultan, the true managers of the country's bureaucracy are the middle bureaucrats who carry out the directives of the top. Like so often happens, the bureaucracy finds itself in battle with the local guilds (-1,5,Neutral), who would prefer if the bureaucrats stop encroaching on their "territory".

Does the Sultan reign in the Council or support the Council? Supporting one will push the other into the Opposition.

Parliamentary Issues

Holy Columbia

The Watercloaks aren't finished in their takedown of the Nobility. A follow-up bill to the last bill would further weaken the nobility [-1,2,Neutral] to near insignificance against the bureaucracy (0,8,Neutral).

The Vice President's can remains hand off on the matter, which will not anger either faction. He can intervene on the side of the Bureaucrats, which will please the Bureaucrats but increase the antipathy of all other factions. Finally, he can intervene on the side of the Nobility, which would please the Nobility, Peasants, Bloodcloaks, and Snowcloaks, but upset the Merchants, Watercloaks, and Guilds.

Ryno Tel'auga Crownlands

Ryno Tel'auga is singularly unique in North America for being her only theocracy. While the theocracy rules absolute in the Crownlands, its power of intervention varies across the lands, especially those controlled by the nobility.

The nobility (-1,4,Neutral) are petitioning the crown to grant them increased privileges and freedom from the bureaucracy (0,7,Neutral). Siding with the nobility would warm the nobility to the government and increase the strength of the country's fledgling officer corps, but upset the bureaucracy. On the other hand, picking the bureaucracy in the matter will anger the nobility and push them into the Opposition.

Factional Issues

Realm of Sakada

The Realm of Sakada sleeps on a major trade route between the east and California. The merchants of Sakada (-1,3,Neutral) benefit greatly from this trade, especially highly-prized manufactures from Florida. Floridian oranges are especially rare, and highly-prized. Because of this, merchants are important in Sakada, though certainly not the forefront.

Sakada itself is a major exporter itself, even if most of its goods end up in cities of the Imperial Crownland. However, one group of people are growing increasingly tired of these Sakadian goods: Separatists (-1,7,Neutral).

Separatists are petitioning Tsumetai Kosuchi to place restrictions on Sakadian merchants in "their" territories. Merchants, likewise, request that their queen grant increased privileges in these territories.

There is no easy decision here, as supporting one group will put the other group firmly into the Opposition.

Republic of Carbondale

Nominally, Carbondale and the other republics of Illinois are republics. In practice, they're glorified dictatorships rapidly descending into complete monarchy. The ruling houses rule are shaky as without a loyalist faction to back when election time comes, the noble house will lose power and republicanism will take the forefront.

The particular political structure of Carbondale is the reason why the nobility (-1,7,Neutral) is so powerful. It is also the reason why this growing nobility leans against the current government, but their beef today isn't with the government, but with Cairo, a sub-realm of Carbondale, currently administered by a council with separatist sentiments [Separatists (1,4,Neutral). The City Council of Cairo, in recent months, has passed laws that restrict the ability of Illinois nobility to flaunt their wealth in public, use their wealth to influence city elections, and administer laws as they see fit.

The nobility has brought the issue before the Grand Chancellor. The Nobility wants the Grand Chancellor to support their position, while Cairo wants support from the government in reigning in the nobility. Picking one will weaken the other and strengthened the supported, as usual. Choosing Cairo over the nobility will turn the wider heterodox-separatist movements in Illinois Loyalists of the government, something the ruling dynasty desperately needs. However, this will make the nobility an enemy of the government and push them into the Opposition.

On the other hand, picking the Nobility will bring both factions to full neutrality with the crown by warming relations with the nobility and cooling them with Cairo.

The choice is yours.

Grand Imperial Duchy of Reikland

The Separatists (8,0,Neutral) have seized the initiative and unilaterally declared freedom some certain "overbearing" powers the bureaucracy wields normally across the land. This has increased the power of the Separatists at the expense of the bureaucracy (5,0,Neutral), which blames the government for the separatist's boldness.

The government's decision remains the same now. Either rollback the bold moves made by the separatists or support them.

Koninryk Nuuw-Hollant

Lets get one thing right, the nobility is not happy with the merchants.

Imagine you're a happy trade good manufactured in Florida. To reach Nuuw-Hollant, you must be shipped from a Floridian port to New Orleans, who then sells the good up river to the Grand Republic of Illinois where, at Chicago, it is checked and searched before finally arriving to Nuuw-Hollant. Every step along the way, the price of the good is marked up by merchants until, finally, a trade good affordable by even the lesser nobility of Louisiana is a luxury only the greater nobility of Nuuw-Hollant can enjoy.

The nobility (5,1,Neutral) wants the government to restrict the markups merchants can place on trade goods, something the merchants (0,5,Neutral) obviously are opposed to. Supporting the nobility would be the easy decision, since that would push the Nobility into the Loyalist camp without pushing the merchants into direct Opposition. On the other hand, supporting merchants would increase the government's trade power without pushing the nobility close to opposition levels.

Kuinruru of Aokelan

The Nobility (-1,4,Neutral) and representatives of trade guilds (-1,4,Neutral) have approached the court for support. The Nobility believes that the mere existence of the guilds is giving far too much power to labor, while the guilds say that the nobility just wants everybody to be a serf.

Simple decision, pick one, push the other to opposition. The choice is yours.
