I'm one of those guys that shamelessly likes Civilization 5. I won't debate the why in this thread, because frankly I find that debate boring. I agree with the direction Civ5 has taken and that is enough for me. I'm talking about patches and bugs here. If we do not get patches at lightning speed(I mean days and hours, not months and weeks)then only a truly deluded individual will be able to defend the game. There are some bugs in the current version of the game that are not able to be excused or overlooked. Some of it is, I hate to say it, truly pathetic.

Civ 4 was not in a very good state when it first released, though many have suffered a convenient lapse of memory in order to bash Civ5. With that said, unless my memory is at fault as well, some of the more severe bugs present in 1.0.0.20 are quite a bit more horrible than Civ4's release bugs. Entire wonders are not working, and I somehow ended up with over 1000 horses in a game where horse exporting was a big part of my income. These are not niggling little bugs that can wait two or three months for a big patch. These are well within the "postpone your post-crunch-time vacation and up the hotfix at 3AM" territory. We need working strategic goods trades, a working great wall, and other such critical fixes *yesterday*.

A patch by the weekend that fixes at least a few of the more glaring issues would make me feel much, much better about all of this.

I agree, but they've shown good faith so far. It's not even been a week since the world release, don't forget.

I think you missed some:
- Peace treaties can't sometimes not be cancelled
- Same for OBs
- and research pacts
- Some social policies are not working
- Saving and loading routines are screwed
- Dozens of problems on startup
- No loading screen
- No ingame clock
- Sometimes not working 1UpT
- Not working achievements
- Not working civs special abilities
- Sometimes screwed graphics

...yeah...and 10 pages more.

Fair enough, but that really only feeds into my original point. We need patches... F-A-S-T!

I personally love many of the dynamic changes to the game that they made to this game. There is no doubt that fixes and updates are greatly needed in time.

I am a full time worker and a part time student, so I don't get to play endlessly like some of the hardcore gamers here. Since I am going to be playing through this game much more slowly than the hardcore fans and gamers, the absolute need for these updates for me is as pressing.

It's not the bugs that worry me. Bugs were not intended to be there and will eventually get fixed. I an worried about the idiotic features that were planed and consciously made and will not get fixed. An example of this would be one unit per tile. Civ4 did not have this kind of crap.

Note: This is the person who most of you civ 5 lovers think ALL of us civ 4 lovers are. He has clearly argued a NEW feature is bad simply because it wasn't in civ 4.

Not everyone who prefers 4 thinks this way, so don't caste us all in this light.

I like the game. I like the direction they've moved in. Playing CIV 4 was great, but tedious. TEDIOUS.

But yeah, I want the bug patches. This is not in as good a state as I would like for a released game.

Yeah, I'm not terribly upset about the direction the game is going (I like some things, I'm not thrilled about others, but at least they are defendable). But I really can't believe the extremely BASIC bugs and omissions the game has now.

I mean 'standard' UI features like a functioning multiplayer save/load interface are nowhere to be found? DLC is not usable in MP games? Seriously?

Whether the game concept is sound or not, it will not survive the storm of bugs and flaws for long.

That was a lame assumption. Just because I did not state the reason why I dislike it it doesn't mean you can assume that I dislike it only because it's not Civ4 and because I am a Civ4 lover (to further crush your argument: Civ, Civ2 and Civ3 didn't have that either). Now I have explained the reason why 1unit/tile is stupid in some other threads and I don't feel like explaining it whenever I say I dislike the damn thing. Maybe I should put it into my sig.

Now I will explain. In a real world, when an army is attacking the enemy line they don't attack it by having infantry at one location and then armored units separated by 200km. They attack at the same spot, close to each other to increase their power, momentum, penetration ability and mutual support. As well as the realistic aspect where you can have more than one division in a 200x200km area. So multiple units on one tile is logical and above all realistic. One unit per tile is just the stupidest thing I have ever seen in any civ game.

This is where I am at with Civilization 4. I won't bother posting what skill levels/win ratios I have lest the snob brigade come in and smite me, but tedium is my main limiting factor in Civ4 now. I have climbed as high as I can without counting significantly more haystacks than I am willing to. Civ4 is a fan-:):):):)ing-tastic game, but it tends to become a chore eventually.

Not everyone will come to like it, but properly patched Civilization 5 with an expansion or two under its belt will be a game for the ages. Sure, just like with the 3-4 changeover we won't get *everyone*, but we'll get 95% of the community before this is over.

That said, Civilization 5 is enough of a departure that I'll probably keep Civ4BTS(BUG&BAT) around as sort of an Ultimate Classic Civ. They remain different enough that I can easily imagine playing 4 from time to time even when Civ5 hits its stride.

Yes, this is the exact distillation of what I am saying. Appreciated :)

Thanks, OP -- this is exactly the thread I wanted to start tonight. You are spot on. Civ V will be remembered as a fatally flawed game if these game-breaking bugs aren't fixed very very quickly.

It is unrealistic which is pretty much a fact.

Whether it benefits the gameplay or not it is subject of debate and individual opinion. For me it reduces the quality of gameplay.

I don't think I really stretch far with this. You made your gripe, then followed it up with a supporting statement of 'civ4 did not have this kind of crap'. Even if that isn't what you meant, it looks a whole lot like you are saying you have the opinion in the first sentence, because of the facts in the second sentence.

Actually I don't understand the defensive position many of the "fanboi" takes (not the OP though) but this game does have many issues that need to be fixed ASAP. It has a potential to be a great game, yeah, just dun look at it through the civ4 glasses. But the bugs and glitches are just too numerous and glaring to say that it is a great game NOW.
And please dun give patches that break more than fixes, please please please....

There's been two patches already.. more coming I'm sure

We did not pay to wait for patches. We paid to play a finished, polished game.
