Absolution 4: Tabula Rasa

Jocasta slowly picked her way through the growing Markets in Satura. With the grudging acceptance of trade by the Zulappi, the flow of Beer is becoming more constant and habitual. Gold was slightly hard to come by, now, but at least they have a constant source in their mines while the Zull have to rely on them.

In the words of the Farseer: The Beer must flow!

She sighed as she squinted at her clay tablet. Pharon wanted 4 Hand 2 Finger Jars of Beer, and 3 Hands Gold Balance Flesh of Dastes under Spice of Akten.

Thinking quickly, the translated it: 22 Jars of Beer, and 15 pieces of gold-worth of Hare seasoned with peppers. Interestingly she thought 5 pieces of gold is the same as a handful.

She looked at it again, and sighed. Obviously, the Farseer saw fit to invite the sullen Zulappi Shamans and Caravaneers (why are THEY sullen?) to a party. The Hare alone will weight nearly thrice her weight, not to mention the beer. Looking in her purse she sighed- only 40 pieces of gold in her budget. She'll need to go to her tower in the north of town first to get the money to hire a cart.

Walking past a wheat vendor she noticed an old man chewing on a stalk of wheat. Once he got to the end he would spit the tip to the side on a small, but growing pile of wheat seeds and sprouts. "What is that?" she as

Tariq the Trader walked the streets of Waset, and although the wealthy men of Satura were glad to purchase beer from the Caravans they still eyed them with suspicion.

Eventually Tariq came to a place in the city where attitudes had hardened against him, glares followed him from every door and window. But why? He asked himself. Perhaps, he thought, he was asking the wrong person.

"Why is your rage so inspired?" he asked one of the stone faced Saturans.

The man growled, "Why, my brother was lost in the raid on Zull, and I suspect he might have survived if your caravans had been willing to conceal them."

Tariq is taken aback, he hadn't thought of it, "But you must see things from my perspective. I can make money here because I bring back goods from places such as Zull. I cannot afford for the Zulappi to think me an agent of Satura or for your folk to think me an agent of Zull. I am not a man of Satura, although I do love and respect your nation, I cannot be asked to join in it's wars against my own interests."

The other man shakes his head, "It does not matter. The Farseer has proclaimed that he died in vain and that we shall not claim dominion of the Nule. Let me have a beer."

Tariq simply hands over the beer, "I am sorry about your brother," before continuing down the street, leaving the man with his coin.

OOC: I didn't send orders yet, might send tomarrow.

Also, why the hate? The only thing I put in about the Caravaneers because I totally did not include them in my plan at all, I never talked to them about the plan. They knew via telepathy or something.

Hey,
OOC
OOC: I didn't send orders yet, might send tomarrow.

There wasn't the orders due was the 17th. Like 2 weeks before a update. This is so early in this, that I thought I'd see if there was interest in maybe a earlier update. No rush. :D

Well, I've written the parts of the update for the Eastern Cradle already.

I'm just waiting on Zull and Satura, I could wait on the Land of the Sun, but since bestrfc has not even sent orders a single time it is more likely that whenever I post the update his population is going to overthrow him and send him to the octagon of shame to duel it out with Omega.

No hate terrance, I'm sorry if you took it that way. I should have left in the ending where I was all "and then they were bestest friends," but I thought it was a little cheezy. I wanted to establish that the traders have nothing against you and have no reason to "sulk" as you put it.

H-wat? I am very sorry, I thought I had sent them; I literally wrote them AS I was posting that wall of stories a page back. Again, sorry. Sent!

You know, if you were to distribute the statistics though 4 is not the median number, there aren't a lot of 4 update games there. There are 16 games there and a lot of them didn't even have 1 update because I was getting so crazy with my rule "innovations" and scenarios that nobody wanted in. That drags my average down a lot. The real crossroads was, like, on update 3.

But, me, I'm just waiting on Satura right now. I'm worried that Terrance thinks I hate him (I don't hate any of you). But I've got a nifty little 3/4 of an update sitting here.

EDIT: Please don't judge me for my NES abortions! I was young! I didn't know better!

What? I don't hate you. I just have 5 Exams tomarrow, Science Olympiad Friday, and my own massive update hanging on my neck.

The thing is, I can't really get a good orderset going. But since you asked, here you go.

Sorry.

Don't judge me for my NES abortions! I'm not young but don't know better.

In Shang the Wanderer Merchants of the East arrived, asking for safe passage through the lands of that Kingdom, but they also brought news from the West. It was only a single arrowhead but it told the King all he needed to know. It was not made of stone, but instead of a shiny yellow metal, too hard to be gold.

"I don't want to make too big a deal out of this, but they are calling it Bronze," the merchants told the King, "the Dragon People are making it, to the West. We can perhaps bring back more samples like this one if we are permitted to travel safely and under the protection of your laws through your lands."

But before their fate was decided the King set out on a plan most bold, calling the wealth of his nation before him he added men at once to the army and commissioned the development of agriculture, to allow him to prepare to fill the river with farms.

Trade with the Koreans brought luxurious furs into the city and helped offset some of the cost of the investments, but it mattered little because the already large economy of the Shang was more than ready for such things.

The Wanderer Merchants continue to ask for permission to travel and trade within the Kingdom. In addition to this the Koreans complain that while their furs made it safely to Shang their own shipment of jewels was intercepted by Manchurian Barbarians and they ask that Shang send troops north with the help of the Koreans to pacify these wild men.

In the Kingdom of the Heavenly Dragon many traders have come to join the trade routes established by the Wanderer Merchants, travelling from unknown cities far to the south and wandering as far as Panaraa or towards the promise of Shang, lured by the friendly policies of the Kings of the Dragon and by the promise of vast technological wealth.

Bronze.

In Junjan they marvel at the Tablets of Dragon Wisdom, a collection of hieroglyphs on tablets hung in a circle near the Lake, outside the palace. Here they come and drink the Tea that is becoming a popular delicacy in that land, marveling at the wisdom of the rulers.

But the economy is slow, and although the traders marvel at the bronze they are unable to get more than a few trinkets. Tourism is high, but little wealth is being exchanged. The trade route to Panaraa is one of the few sources of income, and many of the people are shockingly poor.

This poverty has begun to trouble them greatly and it has actually caused a slight decline in social cohesion, although everything else has been going great, many people starve because of the tiny, insulated economy of the Kingdom and their rage has been quick. These problems are the worst for the groups of nomad immigrants who have not yet assimilated into a Fishing Clan or other native institution.

The Temple of Panaraa has been completed and many missionaries from their faith have arrived in Junjan, it is becoming quite a solace for many of the impoverished citizens who understand the importance of following the wishes of the King. It is generally the citizens who do not care for the "logical pantheistic morality stories" of Panaraa who cause the most trouble.

In the Land of the Sun, the Bado Kings were overrun by revolutionaries. The leader of these men, a bold merchant by the name of Eifier has managed to bring the peace to this war torn land.

(Land of the Sun: +NPCed, -2 Social Cohesion, -Scientific Trait)

In Zulappi the Caravans prepared to journey to Syrius or to the Land of the Sun, spreading their influence eastward. The Linens that flowed into Zull through the already established channels were very popular and brought great wealth to the merchants who could stock them.

It was also in these days that those industrious people set to building their own fortifications around the city, the first sort of defenses around a city ever to be seen. Mainly consisting of a large ditch the "Walls of Zull" permit any units in that city to Bombard on a turn.

But all was not well in Zulappi, an incident between Saturan emissaries and Zulappi soldiers has brought talk of war back into the land.

Moved by the works of Propagandists the people by and large support this war, but the Brewery owners are furious, as their workers will be drawn out into war, as are the landowning farmers, the mystics and undershamans have their own reservations but they rarely bring them up to the Shaman.

But, trouble most of all lies within the Shaman's own mind, where he is haunted by dreams of "Bronze," although it seems only a pale sort of Gold he fears it more than he fears the corruption of that other metal.

(Zulappi: +2 Warriors, +Walls of Zull, -2 Social Cohesion, +Unique Unit (Engineer), +Trade Good (Wicker), +5 Reputation)

In Satura the path to the future was begun with the innovation of Agriculture, allowing the fertile Nule River to be harvested in an orderly fashion. A farm was also added, which helped the population manage the difficulties which beset them this turn.

The Farseer was quite upset when the promised shipments of Beer from Zulappi did not arrive, his own Gold had been sent north with nothing to show for it. He decided to send out emissaries to the court of the Shaman to the North to try to clear up this misunderstanding.

In the meantime, with only the beer brought by Caravans the people of Waset were able to develop their own recipie for desert rabbits, something the Farseer hopes will develop into a popular commodity.

At the border these men were apprehended by newly recruited Warriors of Zulappi who claimed that they had no right to enter those lands and arrested them promptly. No beer has arrived, the diplomats have been captured, and the Zulappi have been expanding aggressively towards Waset, with their troops dominating the previously unclaimed lands between Satura and Zulappi.

But the addition of the Farm and steady sources of food helped steel the population against the troubles of trade.

I've tried taking the beer and paying them later. I tried trading the beer and paying at the same time.
I want my beer. Are you OK if I go and get some? Like literally?
