I recently had to format and reinstall my windows XP, and now have to activate it online. The problem is that the activation wizard keeps giving the message that it was unable to form a connection to Microsoft/Activation etc.

Any way to fix this? The screens ask if one is using a proxy, and i am currently running an anti-virus program (maybe that is hindering the connection?).

The Windows is the XP one, but i have to suppose that they wouldn't just cancel the ability to activate it just because they want to stop updating for it. (goes without saying that i entered my code, and the XP win was bought along with the PC, and i had activated it before, years ago).

If they don't support it, are they going to kill it 60 days after you install it? Or is that built into installation itself where it locks itself?

You can still activate and download updates up to the EoL date. End of support simply means you can no longer receive technical support, and any bugs arising after the EoL date will not be addressed.
