I was thinking that certain arguments around here get brought up too often and have a visceral, emotional quality to them that overrides rational debate.
Does anyone else think we need a few extra Godwinoid rules? Here are a few ideas:
-The Spanish Inquisition.
-NAMBLA.
-Accusing someone of dodging Godwin's Law.

Quoting your religion's holy book in a scientific discussion, be it the bible, the koran, torah, etc.

If you wouldn't care to read quotes from a religion you don't follow then do others the same courtesy and don't ask them to read yours. :)

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquistion!!

Our chief weapon is surprise, surprise and fear... ah you know the rest;)

I find it annoying sometimes when people throw in some baseless comment and then say so you think NAMBLA is a good thing, like I even knew what NAMBLA was before you shoehorned it into the conversation:rolleyes:

OT!

Favourite MP quote:

you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a scimitar at you:lol:

I've never really been a fan of the idea behind Godwin's Law. Sometimes, it is perfectly acceptable to make references to the Nazis. Using them as a worst-case scenario and so forth is fine.

As someone who is right of center, I like Godwin's Law. (I didn't even know about Godwin's Law until I googled it after looking at this thread.) Most of the time when I'm winning arguements with logic against people from the left, they just say I'm a Nazi and think that ends the debate in their favor.

Indeed.Check the thread titled,"Most Over-Used Words in OT."Post 4. You are not a victim all by yourself in this one.;)

There should be a corresponding law against commie accusations.

I agree with the Inquisition. Whenever a religious debate comes up, the Inquisition is thrown in the face of religious folk as evidence that their religion is evil.

I think that the vast majority of religious folk are fundamentally different from the 'theme' of the Inquisition.

I second both these sentiments.

Religion: Inquisition, Crusades
Homosexual Rights: What's next marrying your dog or sister? vs. Saying homosexuality is a sin makes you a bigot
