I would like to know what you think would be the best course of action here.

This is a Raging Barbarians Game on Prince, Standard Mapsize, Normal Speed.
I am WangKon of Korea - Fin/Pro
Start Techs are Mining/Mysticism

The goal is clear - cottage the capitol as soon as possible. Where i am not sure, is how to get there best...

1) While the City can easily feed itself with the Flood plains, there is no single high food tile for rapid early growth. Also the Healty Cap will be terrible... Should i farm some of the FP's ? Farming desert are 7 Turns... Long time...

2) I do not really expect to have strategic ressources in my capitol, and this is Raging barbarians game. So i probably want to grab a second city with copper ASAP. Or should i rather rely on my archers ? I am protective after all... But Hunting+Archery are both techs i happily skip in most games...

3) I would really like to get a early religion - i have misticism so i can research Meditation right away. This would give me a shrine in the capitol, making it my Wall Street city later. On the other hand - i would postpone BW and the needed Worker Techs. Is the a Shrine worth it ?

1) I would go to AH while farming one of the FP, and then pasture the cow. Don't worry too much about the health cap...

2)I would not expect any strategical resource as well. IMHO this is a GW classic, but Pro archers would not be too shabby too ....

3) I do not like early religions.... and worker tech are far more important than the religious ones. And a shrine does not worth that much for a long time.....

farm the floodplains before you get Pottery. I would proably tech something like ag with worker first then hunting archery wheel pottery. Grow capital to happy cap while spamming archers(improve a couple floodplains to farms then mines). Then spam (worker worker settler)*(3-5) or something. Then build a library and run 2 scientists while building cottages in capital. Get up academy and soon burrecracy for an amazing capital to power your economy. Get one of the other cities set up for production to continue expansion and fending of barbs. Protective archers should do well enough against barbs until you get copper or horses hooked up. 4-6 archers should be fine for the first wave i guess. Fog busting is pretty damn powefull with raging barbs.

Yea, i was thinking GW too - forgot to mention :D I think this is exactly wehre my problem is - many promising/possible paths and can't decide what way yo go :D

Just building archers is cheaper... They also fogbust for settlers and workers.

I would go hunting - AH as that would allow you to improve the cows, as well as revealing horses to kill barb axemen.

I say research archery first, you might not make it to axes.

ion prince he definatly got some time however i wouldn't delay too long getting archers out to fogbust. Getting the plains cow improved is not a very huge priority since they only give 3 food. However you should get AH after archery since improving the cows is good for production after all. Going ag-hunting-archery-ah would allow you to researvch ah with both prereqs. After that probably some mix of bw wheel and pottery is proably advisable. If you find stone GW is proably a good idea but you shouldn't let it stunt your early development. Basically this is a variation of snaatys strat which i belive is superior in most cases even though the research path isn't appliable to the lower levels like prince.

For some reason i thought it was deity or immortal. On prince I'd probably just build some warriors, i think you actually get bonuses and of waves of barbs will give some nice promotions

With all those floodplains and a financial leader I think you have to beeline pottery while being careful of chopping forests. Also with the wine I'd say early monarchy, probably through the oracle is a good idea. That can help you drive your happy cap in your capital up to have a really solid capital there under bureaucracy making early CS also a priority.

Raging barbs makes things a bit tricky of course, but as long as you have fogbusters out on prince you should be ok.

I would say focus on cranking out fogbusters in your capital while beelining pottery. Get out a worker to cottage up those floodplains and once you get ahusb of course pasture the cows for the production. Once your capital hits the happy cap then start producing workers and settlers. With enough fogbusting I think you can avoid having to go for archery.

Just make sure you settle copper or horses in your 2nd city.

If you have a Worker with nothing better to do (no Pottery yet), sure, otherwise no.

3) I would really like to get a early religion - i have misticism so i can research Meditation right away. This would give me a shrine in the capitol, making it my Wall Street city later. On the other hand - i would postpone BW and the needed Worker Techs. Is the a Shrine worth it ?

Sure. Go for it.

Yes, Archers. Raging barbs and a slower start with the religion.

Thanks for the input people :D

I Played about 75 turns - The land is great and the Barbs are really crazy :crazyeye: - lots of fun. For those who are interested in how it went - i posted it in the spoiler below.

I also attach the Initial Autosave, in case another daring Prince player want to give it a try ;). In this case he (the daring Prince player) should not open the spoiler box.

Spoiler :
I started teching Agriculture, building a worker and farming a FP as some suggested. Was Planning on doing Hunting-AH-Archery-Wheel-Pottery-BW. But... Found stone near Capitol in a good production city location, so changed plans.

Teched AH and BW (found out that the stone City would also take copper :D) whipped a settler, while teching masonry, settled right on the stone and hurried up the GW in the newly settled city by two chops. Continued teching with Wheel->Pottery skiping Hunting and Archery since i built the Wall

And i am glad i did.

I share the big continent with just Augustus Caesar. Lots of space to fogbust... Augustus - the imperialistic jerk - spammed 2 settlers/cities pretty fast so real Barbs started to appear. The empty land to the east spames hordes of them. I have a few Axes picking some Barbs out for practice - but i let enought of them alive for Augustus to have fun as well :D Just Warriors so far, still they managed to burn 2 of his new cities, as they all heading along my Wall towards him now...

I could build some troops to kill Augustus, but i think i will rather settle some nice cities first - there are plenties of good land and Augustus is not going to be a threat anytime soon. He is VERY busy :)

I had a strategic ressurce in my capitol after all - a Grassland Iron tile :D . Overall - rarely seen such good land. Plenty of food, Stone, Marble, Gold...

The trick is to just build enough workers... Build like 2 workers per city and you'll have enough workers to road and cottage your capital too.
