Afforess's Modmods

Just a minor thing, but in the top of this thread, there is no note of your Education mod, and in the installer, there is no helper text. Other than that, I'm trying some (most) of your modmods for the first time, and looking forward to them. Thanks for all your work!

Good Catch! I missed that one completely. I'll get right on that.

The Education adds for new buildings geared towards training your soldiers and citizens, in the height of the Renaissance era. They can give your Musicians additional talent, or your soldiers extra skill on the battlefield, depending on what you choose.

Psst. Typo. Seriously, though, I love the idea of schools that generate GPP. I kind of think the new version of the University should do that. By the way is the 10% boost to Great General production cumulative? I had a hard time telling with all the bonuses floating around and the tiny exp I was getting for all my Warlorded heavy Swordsmen.

The bonuses are cumulative, AFAIK. Good catch with the typo... I've had a busy day...:(

I'm getting frequent CTD's now. It's frustrating. The game is around 1800 at Epic, and I'm in the modern era. I'm using RoM 2.8, the latest hotfix, os79's storm fix and these Aforess modmods:

Military Civics
Beautification project
Civic Flavor
Ideology Civics
Meteorology
Mountains
Realistic Diplomacy
Seafaring
Multiple production
Civic Attitudes
Espionage Process
Reforestation
Sea Tunnels
Terraforming
Lead from behind
Event images (btw. I haven's seen any event images  )

I have wonder movies turned off.

I know it's virtually impossible to debug with this setup, but perhaps someone can read something from the logs. The CTD's come and go and don't seem to be related to something specific. I tend to be able to reload the last save, play beyond the point where it crashed previously, then get another one a turn or two down the line.

If I at least could get some info as to what goes wrong, I might be able to prevent it or work around it in another game.

Well, your logs were clean. I don't know the cause of the CTD's. This isn't the first report of unrepeatable CTD's, next Beta I'm going to have some people play with debug mode on and see if they can't catch these CTD's in the act.

Long Story Short: I'm working on it. I think I've already fixed all the repeatable CTD's, but that just revealed the other more elusive bugs...

I too get occasional unrepeatable CTDs (never frequent like yours tho) so if I manage to get this code compiled I should be able to help find WTH is causing it. By occasional I mean if I play civ all day it'll probably ctd once or twice in that day with no warning and completely unreproducible, except the reloading ctds that zappara is aware of.

I spend most of my reading time at Ace of Spades HQ and one of our pet projects is nitpicking the poster for spelling errors, so I've had practice. I was wondering about the general xp because a weird thing happened in my current game. I got three just fighting revolt attempts, and didn't get the fourth until I controlled about a third of the world. This is my first game with revolutions on, so maybe that's common, but they used to be more spread out.

If you're taking requests, I'd like to see [Tribal] War Monuments. They would be generated any time a civilization lost its last city in that city and be destroyed whenever the city changes hands. The existing Monument graphic is probably good enough, but there should be a version for each tribe. Each war monument (since revolutions allows civs to re-emerge) would add a one point diplomatc penalty to its tribe, but a bonus to relations with each civ that has a negative biew of the tribe it represents. Add some culture. I'd always like more great general points, but one per turn each is too much. Maybe a 20% chance of a point each turn (like FFH's adepts), only during peace time?

I get graphic memory allocation errors if I keep the game running for some hours. Those were not the CTDs I described above.

I've reduced the numer of modmods to a minimum (Mountains, Realistic Diplomacy, Seafaring, Multiple production ) and am trying a new game. Hopefully I can build - and use - tanks this time before it breaks down. In the other game I was controlling a bit over half the landmass and was preparing for a war on the Arabs to get above 66% when the game stalled.

Same thing here. I don't know why. I am running the basic mod plus AdvancedNukes. I wonder if anyone else gets them. Robo what Graphics Card do you have? Mine is a Nvidia GeForce 8600GT running with 256MB dedicated graphics memory at a resolution of 1680x1050. Don't know whether it is graphics card related this fault...

My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 500Mb

My PC is a Medion, bought in a store selling mostly food - that is it is a model made to be sold in large numbers on a special offer in a retail chain all over Europe. Thus the graphics card may well be a derivative of another one. This PC got excellent reviews, however, so I expect it's not dumbed down seriously. I don't know if you have this system in Australia, it's fairly common here. Several food store chains have weekly offers on all sorts of stuff within a large price range.

I don't know if the GT 230 and GT 8600 are related.

Hello,

I can't thank you enough for merging in LfB! It literally saved my conquering army. Plus it helped cost my enemy about 20 of its units!

Again, thank you for merging that mod! :goodjob:

Actually both cards are medium to low mid levels. 256Mb of video ram is low for RoM. 512Mb is better but should have DDR2 or better on board video ram. Shader 2.0 is a must. Shader 1.0 just doesn't cut it anymore.

Your main comp ram should be above 3GB and at least 600Mhz DDR2 (800 and 1066 perform way better but you must have a MoBo that will support it). Overclocking can be a "limited" help. But you need good ventilation for the Case.

Hello,

I think you may want to consider tweaking building roads on the mountains to Tech Cartography instead. It looked funny having workers building roads on mountains before the tech that remove penalties from crosing the mountains.

I don't seem to find it in the readme or on the forums but I seem to have an error with the "sea tunnel" aspect. I have the required techs and built the jumplanes, but I still don't get the option to build the tunnel itself. I see them in Worldbuilder, but I can't seem to build the tunnels themselves.

Excellent catch. That's because I forgot that Zappara added 2 upgrades for the workboat, and I never updated the modmod for them. A plain old workboat should be able to build them, if you feel like "giving" yourself a few.

I will fix this for the next release.

The modern workboat info says it can't enter ice, which would make icebreaking difficult. I still have a bunch or workboats that I liberated while privateers were useful, so I'm good to go.
