Afforess's Modmods

I uninstalled and then reinstalled all of Civ IV, downloaded the new patches, downloaded the rise of mankind from the home page of civfanatics, and tried to download your modmods.

The first problem was that your modmod said I didn't have the latest rise of mankind version, despite downloading 2.8. Then nothing changed in the rise of mankind folder when I used the application, so I downloaded it to the desktop and merged the files. Like last time, I got the error (see my last posts) when Rise of Mankind was loading. Like last time when my cursor hovers over the flag it says that your modmods are installed but again like last time there are no new buildings or civic groups.

I don't know what else to do.

also now when i try and uninstall i get an error saying that it can't rename /assets/modules/MLF_CIV4ModularLoadingControls.xml because no such file or directary.
Also it says some stuff invoked from within and then some code several times.

Not sure who or why but my wife and I played all day and sometime between 1630 and 1730 this evening the saves suddenly went corrupt. I don't even know if this is a modmod problem or what. Anyone know why?

First off, if it gave the error message for the out of date version, it's because you must be installing it in the wrong folder. You're 100% positive that you installed it into the Rise of Mankind folder? Because I'm 99.99% positive you didn't. Double check that. If you're using Vista or Win7, right click on it and run as administer too.

Did you alter the game files or add another modmod?

I'll try uninstalling it again but whether I downloaded into rise of mankind folder shouldn't matter. I put it in the desktop and merged the folders and it still didn't work. Like I said, though, I'll try uninstalling it and double checking where I install it

anyway i keep getting that error when i try to uninstall so even if I wanted to retry I can't.

Is there anyway to manually uninstall the modmods?

ok I tried a new route. The one I used before was firaxis games-beyond the sword and so on. Whenever I download a mod I use the route name-documents-mygames-beyondthesword-mods. That always worked when downloading mods so I used that route except went one further into rise of mankind. I didn't get the message that my game was out of date and I saw some changes in the folder. However I loaded up the game and still no changes in the civics and no changes in buildings. I also still got that barbarian error message in the beginning

Okay, let's do this the slow and old-fashioned way.

1.) Uninstall Civilization 4
2.) reinstall Civ4 to the default spot (C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4
3.)Reinstall Beyond the Sword and Warlords
4.)Now, unarchive Rise of Mankind and copy it to your MODS folder, in C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods
5.) Right click on my installer, run as administrator, and install it to C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods/Rise of Mankind

I already did all of those steps, but for whatever reason beyond the sword ends up in a different folder than civ 4 and warlords. I'll try uninstalling beyond the sword and putting it in the right folder along with civ 4 and warlords.

ok i downloaded it into the right folder, I made sure. but when I try and go back in using the same route to use 7zip on the .rar but when i went into mods I only see a few of the mods, and I don't see the .rar document. ok i started to try and download it again, and when I got to the file I could see the .rar file, so I tried to use 7zip but at the end it said there were a couple files that caused errors. I'm ready to give up at this point, literally nothing is working

So let's see here:

Does Beyond The Sword play okay? If so, continue on...
Does Rise of Mankind play okay? If so, continue on...
Can you get the installer pointed at the right folder (i.e The Rise of Mankind folder) If so, continue on...
Does the installer finish installing without errors? If so, continue on...
Can you load up Rise of Mankind now?

Not in the middle of playing the game. One save at 5:20 works and the next save at 5:38, doesn't.

I've seen this before, on my own computer. I wonder if the game simply runs out of memory while creating the save, and corrupts it by accident. By any chance, was it in the late game? What size is the save from 5:20 and the one from 5:38?

thanks for the step by step instructions, I'll have to do that next week since the computer its on is at home and I have to go back to college soon. Anyway the point I'm up to is that I'm having trouble downloading rise of mankind into the proper folder instead of the previous route i used (my games) because only two of the mods that come with beyond the sword show up in the mod folder when i use that route, except when i'm trying to download something in which case i can see everything.

the route I'm using now is the exact one that you wrote before with C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/beyond the sword/mods. when I just search and go into mods I only see those files, when i go to a site, download the .rar file and go the that exact same route to save the file, I see the previous file I downloaded and everything else. I don't know why I can't see it when I just search.

I can only see a file called assets, and I can only see the mods Final Frontier and Next war

i cant download 1.41 patch main link

can you help me?

plz i need mirror link

Early-Mid game 422KB and 432KB, about 500BC, I am playing a singleplayer game with the same map and am much further into the game that save for that one is 647 KB and that one is working fine.

EDIT: So my guess is its a random thing. We went back to a previous save last night lost about an hour of game play and played on and none of the saves since then work.

That's why you have it autosave every turn and have it store 3000 autosaves

I may be able to assist you - If using Vista.... And possibly depending on how your game was loaded - not sure.... anyway. I had some issues with his installation also. Here is what I found that fixed mine.

My natural loading of the game that the installer chose was (Program Files (x86)\2K games\Firaxes ..........

Afforess Modmod installer does not take into account the 2K games folder and goes (Program Files (x86)\Firaxis ...........

Open the Program Files (x86) folder.......
In there you will see 2K Games folder (if game set up is like mine)
And further down a Firaxes folder (maybe created by Aforres Mod mod if still have installed - forced creation)

ENSURE of the path you need to go -- Be detailed. If its not precisely where your game is -- use the browse to direct properly and all should be ok. Was for me. oh ,, and same for the patch (stating obvious - I know)

Yul

I'll keep that in mind. I'm at college now on my laptop so I can't access the game, but right now my biggest problem is the one I described above in which I simply can't see the .rar file I downloaded when i go into the files. If anyone can help me fix that I'd probably be able to do the rest (probably)

Hey Afforess, I just wanted to point out something;
You have listed:
In CIV4BuildingInfo.xml, I've added:
...
  • TechSpecialistChange,
    • This is a list. It Allows specialists base commerce to be changed as different tech's are researched
...

Methinks this should probably instead be "Allows specialist slots to be changed as different techs are researched."

Okay, I can change that.
