Afforess's Modmods

I don't know if the Warlord Chief (S) and better units are part of the modmods or in 2.8 already. I seem to be able to build more Warlord Chiefs once I upgrade the existing ones, and I can build both a Chief and a Captain in the same queue. Is this intentional, or are those supposed to be cleared out of my build list once a better version is available?

It is part of RoM 2.8 merged in from Vincentz mods. And yes it is designed so that you can build old units when you have built all the current. I wish it wasn't but Vincentz did not put an obsolete tech in any of them.

They are Vincentz's modmods, not mine. I think that's the way they were made to work, but I'm sure Vincentz could tell you better...

Edit:
Dancing Hoskuld beat me to it.

I think they should be cleared out. Since you can only use one of these once on each unit, it makes little sense to build an outdated one - they provide fewer XP.

Except that you can build it they pay to upgrade it! Which is what Vincentz does apparently. Especially with the non-leader warlords. It gives you reserves or trainee woarlirds;)

I'm new to playing a modmod. So how/where do I install this to? Once installed, how do I load this? I didn't notice any instructions.

Also, if I attempt to install using the predeffined folder target path, a message says I'm installing 'an outdated version, may cause probelms' (I'm attempting 1.4). Now I'm very confused.

OK, so with no directions I just installed this modmod with the predeffined install target path; BTS/Mods/RoM. Installer said I was installing an outdated version (1.4). I installed the 1.41 patch afterwards, but it said that Afforess add-ons weren't previously installed (But hey were). So i did it anyways. I started up RoM but I notice no indication I'm playing the modmod.

I need clear, precise directions on how to install this, and once installed, how to load it. I'm sure there are others like me who have never done this before!

It is a Sunday morning :). Please give Afforess a few hours before pestering his poor hide :D.

You install it to your Rise of Mankind folder, wherever you put that.

That message occurs if you try to install my modmod's over Rise of Mankind, but the version of Rise of Mankind is not 2.8, the latest version. Make sure you are playing the latest version before you install.

It sounds like you put them in the wrong folder, you need to find out where your Rise of Mankind folder is, and install it there. The predefined path is correct for 90% of users, but if you installed Civ4 to a non-standard path, you will need to change it to where you installed it to.

It's a simple two step process.

Step 1.) Find your Rise of Mankind folder, and point the installer there.
Step 2.) Install.

Sorry for being a pest. I'm anxiously awaiting this great looking mod!

I did do the install to BTS/Mods/Rom, and I installed the 1.41 patch. So how do I start the game/load? Is it automatic or is there an additional step? When I started Rom 2.8, I didn't see any thing that indicated it was your named modmod.....

I don't think you can, apart from checking that the changes you installed are avaliable. For example, that the civic choices you installed (if any) are available).

In game, hover over the flag. It will say Afforess's Addons, 1.4 on it.

I'm a goof - I got it! I found I had 2 directory paths and I installed it to the old one. Sorry for making you repeat yourself. Looking forward to playing your Mod, THANKS!

I'm glad to hear you got it working.

Afforess I have very big problem!!

I let translate your mod for polish language and everything were ok but i wanted to try change language of it (for my language - polish). It seems that everything is ok but it isn't. If i set my language, it is in conflict with otheres because it is still writen english... In custom games i haven't got the name of some liders and in civilopedia as missing words unit (for example Warlod Commander etc). I think that your mod restrict the languages and do you know maybe if is it any change for repair it?

Sorry for my english!

Let's see if I understand. You translated my modmod's to polish. But there were still some objects in English?

Those things would be Vincentz's stuff. Not mine. No offense to him, but he was lazy when he made his modmod's, and cut corners (I would never do that. :mischief:). Instead of adding a TXT_KEY_SOMETHING_GOES_HERE for his new units, he just wrote an english description in. The fix is easy, but time consuming...

You would need to create a new gametext, probably called "Vincentz_Gametext.xml" Use Afforess_Gametext.xml as an example, it's in the Rise of Mankind/Assets/XML/Text folder.

Then, you would need to create entries for each of his units. Short Story Long:

Open up the UnitInfos.xml for vincentz's modmod's. (Vincentz's units are in Rise of Mankind\Assets\Modules\Custom Units) and cut the text to a new TXT_KEY_REFERANCE unique to each unit. The name of the TXT_KEY is not important, it must merely be unique to each unit.

Then, add the proper English and Polish text in the GameText.xml you created.

If you don't want to bother with that, or can't figure out, I suppose you can just live with the English, and complain to Zappara. He really should have sorted that out himself.

Oh, and if you translated all of my text to Polish, can I have a copy, so I can include it in my next release? I'll credit you.

No offense to him, but he was (is, red.) lazy

I second that ;)

Edit. While it is an honour to have my mods incorporated into RoM, I wish zappara didnt put the warlords into 2.8 as it is rather bugged.
The spies, industry and junglecamp are fine though. I'm currently working on the warlords to remove the most obvious bugs, but with little luck as my time and energy is extremely low at the moment.

@ Dancing Hoskuld : I'm not sure an obsolete tech would resolve anything as if f.ex you didnt have iron, then you couldnt build WL chiefs anymore. But if you think you have a workaround plz let me know ;)

Really? I had no Idea Warlords was bugged... If it is I've not yet ran into any, can you say what bugs it's got?
