AG5 - Honorable Space Race

I agree it's argueably not quite in the spirit of honorable rules if you use it deliberately. I checked the honorable rules - it has a sentence "Renegotiating ongoing peace treaties to squeeze more concessions out of weak civs is dastardly." Hard to say if "MA" is part of "concession".

But I think it's rather a problem of the game itself (aka exploit).

The problem is the peace treaty. If you get any per-turn goods in a peace treaty, and that gets broken, you are automatically at war.

This is not always favorable to the payee. If I lose some gpt, I may NOT want to get into the war just because of that. And it's not quite fair to the payer either - it's not like it purposely declares war on you, so why at war?

There are two ways to do it:
1. The payer just gets a rep hit (e.g., no more per-turn goods in future peace treaty, which could be deadly). No war.
2. Let the payee have a choice of whether to declare war or not (treat it the same way as a spy mission failed - the payee has a "right" to declare). This works for both human and AI.

Before that's fixed, however, we may say "should never include MA in a peace treaty" to the honorable rules.

Here comes Barbslinger to mop up some German cities. I think my over all feel for this war is to take the German towns that have any resources and then I propose to take any Hittite cities near our borders and gift them to lesser civs. Take them down so that they are no longer a threat to the civilized honorable world we live in. They have been screwing with everyone since this game started. It's over for them. I'll leave them a few so the others can avenge. Once we get some bombers in the air and tanks on the ground it is bye-bye gorilla, hello stone age for Henry.

"Giving away captured cities is only honorable if they are given to an ally who owned them when the war began. "

I'm afraid that we have to keep the captured cities. Remember that razing and abandoning cities also isn't permitted :)

Will do. I've just looked the game over and it looks like 5 trns until tanks. Just starting and it's midnight here and I'll play until 2:30 or so. Post a partial summary later.

AG5 – 1350AD

Pre-turn – At war with Hittites. That’s the same first line as my last report. WW is hitting hard and Maya have some wines. 1 notch on the lux slider is around 150gpt and I get them for gems and iron. I move the slider to 10% making 608gpt and Seoul, Wonsan and Cheju are the only troublemakers. Cheju swaps to a rushed colloseum, Wonsan Colloseum in 3 and Seoul gets Cheju’s mine and a civil eng to drop manhattan to 10turns. It is on the edge though with a 9-1-9-1eng. Sci-sli to 90% to get Computers in 6. The Hittite situation looks cool. Our rubber city is on fire and will be back online next turn. There is also some impressive coing to be made off of Mass Pro, Flight or Electronics. 1000g + 197gpt from Abe and 169g + 149gpt from Cathy. They are both at war too so I’m going for it. After thinking abot it a little and having so many cities on the edge I elect to bump the lux slider anyways. We have a LOT of cash.

IT – All back in order. Hittites and Greece sign peace. There are a lot of builds so I’m going to summerize. I started a bomber program in 3 cities. Berlin got some worker short rushed walls. Pyongyang went to battlefield medicine.

[1] 1355AD – Our reinforcements arrive with 4 Hittite ships tailing them along with 3 infs flown in. I send the slaves to get working or the rubber marsh with cover. The marsh east of the rubber will stop everone in their tracks and provide a chance to bomb them. I also kill a cav and an infantry with elites. I went through the builds again checking for waste and swapped some around. Rushed a couple police stations. See on the combat calc that a vet cav is a 72 or 79% favorite against an injured inf on a mountain. I go 60% at 3 wins, 2 losses.

IT – Berlin – Walls > Explorer to pillage, Taegu – Bank > Temple, Wonsan – Cav > Destroyer, Nampo – Police > Rifle, Tietsin – Police > Cath because I still dream of Chinese oil flipping, Taejon – Cav > Cav, Paegam – Airport > Bomber, Chonju – Hospital > Bship, Suwaon – Bomber > Bomber, Haeju – Airport > Cav and looking to see if I can get it to 50spt.

[2] 1360 – I can at the expense of giving up the 50spt Bship that was Inchon was building. I think if I irrigate a grassland over there I can get both. It does with 40spt in Inchon and 50spt in Haeju since now I can use the mountain. I see the Taejon cav is reg. I worker short rush a rax there. I just turned on enemy animation because I didn’t see the 7 cavs that went right by our workers on the rubber and parked next to the city. Looks like leader fishing time. That’s nice they ignored the workers and defense on them. RNG gods smirk at me as an E cav dies to an injured cav. I also lose another vet 3 kills later. I decide to give a rifle man a shot and he gets the job done an goes elite. Go figure. 7-2. I rush 3 destroyers, a police station and a cav.

IT – Hamburg and Munich – libs > short rushed temples ( yes, I forgot to rush them earlier), 3 destroyers, a bomber, 2 cavs. Our tundra town Tokchon will be adding a harbor. More cavs and infantry ignor the workers. How are they getting there across the marsh? That’s 3 steps.

[3] 1365AD - Finally we get a leader! It will make Henry’s doom army of infantry and go a pillaging. He is sent out. Just noticed that a group of American ships let a flotilla of Hittite ships pass by each other. I think they were waving at each other because not a shot was fired. I lose one cav and take out 6 cavs and 2 infantrys. The cav I lost was the reg sreated a couple turns ago. I thought I would gve hima chance to prove his worth. Oops, his bad. A bomber took out an injured inf. Well the road to rubber is done but no colony available. Expansion in 3 and oil lasts 9 turns. Computers in 3 also. We’re still making 568gpt. Man Abe has another 215gpt to buy with but he’s the only one.

IT – Hamburg and Munich – Temples > Cathedrals, 4 bombers a battleship and assorted other things. Only 2 cavs and 3 infs. BTW Aggie, this is too easy. Thanks for the beautiful setup. Perhaps it’s the limited troops I’m getting from Herny but you guys did all the hard work. I’m content to wait on tanks now.

[4] 1370AD – I blow out the “marsh” that on closer inspection had a road hidden in it. It has pock holes now. I didn’t mind it so much before but with rubber coming online I think I better. I kill the offenders. Here comes our rubber.

IT – Expansion and glory coming. One destroyer is built. We control the sea lanes for now. The Hittities are taking a longer route now. I need a fortress on the rubber.

[5] 1375AD – Builds are swapped and 7 tanks will roll of the assembly line next IT. All rifles but this pet elite rifle I have are upgraded. Wow only 11? I begin bombing of Bremen in earnest and there were only 2 infantry there that die. If the army was not so far away I would walk in. I can next turn but they will put more in. I change Munich and Hamburg to workers. That’s honorable to make ‘em work for a living. What did they think? Entertainment for the rest of their lives! Here come the tanks.

IT – Tanks and ships. Computers come in. Set for Miniturization in 10.

[6] 1380 – The bombing runs come up 1 cav shy but we’re getting it. The fortress is complete on the rubber. Alex needs Mass pro too. He offers 122gpt but I get full 151gpt. 152 is doubtful. But 152gpt is OK if he does not give the 10g. I then get him back in on the Hittites for 375g. Now he won’t sell it to Henry. Swap a bunch of builds to research labs.

IT – Wonsan, Pusan, Nampo, Cheju, Hyangsang and Paegam make research labs. Hangsan to H epic due to the kill I had last turn, Paegam the MilAcademy. The rest back to tanks and ships.

[7] 1385 – Our navy gets off to a glorius start as we sink 2 galleons and 3 frigates taking minor causualties. This time the bombers do the trick on Hanover to soften it up. Bremen is going down next turn with the scores I have there on the doorstep. Mini in 8 with the labs in place. Upgrade some more infantry rotating them in.

IT – America signs the Mayan on against the Hittites. Another 2 labs complete and some toys too.

[8] 1390AD – Bremen falls! Ivory online! We get another leader and a MI army is formed to hold Bremen. Other cavs that were storming to near barren Konigsberg die but no follow up leaders. All elite kills though.

IT – Only 2 cav’s attack Bremen. 2 or 3 other infantry show up though.
Pyongyang - Battlefield Medicine completes > Lab. Ulsan,Taejon – Tanks > Tanks

[9] 1395 – Barricade goes up on rubber. Haanover is pounded and has only an injured inf left. Again, I’m not close enough. Build 2 radar towers between Bremen and Munich and Munich and Berlin. Rush the library in Bremen.

IT – We get hit hard with pollution. 4 sites and I sent 6 workers to the new lands. 5 new tanks and 2 bombers are built.

[10] Partial. Just noticed that that is oil next to Ivriz. It’s knocked offline. But time for night-night. It’s 5:30am. Finish tomorrow.

When we last left off I saw oil. 1400 continues with a progression of our troops towards the front. Oil is important. I would like to take the front to Colonge and Kabah. That would close Henry from us nicely due to the choke area. Then we only have to live peacefully with the Mayans.

IT – My bad not seeing the Chinese deal for incense expiring. We get it again for 44gpt. I think they are all afraid of us now. Heroic epic completes in Pyongyang and we go for prebuild on the internet. Seoul is 72spt and Pyong is 64. The wonder provides research labs. We are way ahead and I think we will make it there. Seoul is going to be changing tiles soon to 2 turn tanks and more science. After internet we are done with wonders and it is time to race to the goalpost.

[11] 1405AD – Spend my time setting up for capture of Hannaover. It is down to 4 pop now. I am also setting up for that oil town I missed earlier. It will be ours.

IT - the deal for oil comes up and Mao is not a gentleman. It’s going to cost us and because I didn’t see it before, not that the city would be ours, it will cost us. I’ll accept the gouge for now. But I send a messenger telling him abot his daughter so that perhaps he will declare someday. 50gpt and 2200g. worked him from 2150 all the way up in 10g increments. Why does he not declare. Our problems would have been solved.

[12] 1410 – My 1st move per game was to send a Bship towards Mao. It may be required. We bomb Hannover down to no units and when I walk in it is destroyed. I’m killng pollution but I an’t find it all. I’m seeing the mountain pollution but I have 3 here on F11 and I can’t find it. Well, now after 5 minutes of compete scrutiniztion I have yet to come up with the sites. I went through our top producers, they are fine. Were the F is it. Anyhoot I move on Ivriz and the oil. Workers are working towards it. Btw, they have 12 slaves hooking it up for us.

IT – We get SETI in Seoul and set to lab. We will soon be selling all of these though because Mini is 1 turn away. No attacks.

[13] 1415AD – They are running to the oil. There was a lot of movement on my periphery that way. I knock Ivriz down to 1hp each and now the bombers so the group can move in. 2 bombers later we walk in. I was surprised to see resistance in the nwly captured town with our power. They gotta be seeing this. 16 workers take a bow after the roll call. All workers go to hook up oil. Am I feeling foolish about the Korean deal now. I also find one of the missing 2 pollutions under the worker stack waiting to go get it. Found the other too. The workers were right next to that one too. I bomb hell on the roads leading to us and our new holdings. I’m thinking honorable guys take these prizes and settle. It’s defense for me now. Well maybe a couple other city knocks before I relinquish command. The choke I spoke of is in sight.

[14] 1420AD - A coupe of miniscule attacks. The good news is we have Miniturization. That’s a mouth full. Now we go Rocketry and towards the ship. This was Demi-god? With Mini in I check a couple prebuilds I had for Internet and Seoul wins again. I’m even going to let it finish it’s lab for one turn. It would still beat the others by a turn. Change my mind and Seoul goes to Internet in 13. I hury the library in Ivriz and thinking about the future. Greece and Abe are 11-12 turns away from out of the alliance so it may be time to call it quits on this resource grab. There is nothing else in sight to grab and I, for one, am satisisfied. I’m swapping town’s to wealth and picking up 30gpt a town. Let’s take a spaceship ride. Just saw that Abe has a buy offer in on moter transpo for full price 2750g. He is the only one though. More pollution I can’t find. I need a colorblind pollution finder utility.

IT – Builds come in and I set afew for the 1st spaceship parts. Chonju goes to Mahatten for Apollo it will be due in 5 after Rocketry. Other builds are wealth. America finally takes a Hittite city to our south. Ivriz builds a library.

[15] 1425AD - It is end game now. Our library on the oil completes and we are the strongest boys around. Beth has some slight 51gpt to back up Abes full offer for MT but screw em all. Germany is gone and I don’t thnk there is another scientific civ besides us on the planet. Let’s just cruse away into the sunset now. We have rails from the oil to our airport and boats guarding. Ivririz gets a temple rush through a worker rush.

Is it time to space with no international help?

AG05-1425AD.jpg

Good job Barbslinger. I don't mind when we decide NOT to ask help from the other civs... microbe can go either way but I feel that the AI is too backward and slow.

Good to see that the Hittites are now weak. We still have 11 more turns in a MA but I would make peace asap when we can, because the war weariness is getting annoying.

ROSTER:
microbe--->up
Aggie------>on deck

My feelings on any Space race is I felt we lost alittle bit when the Germens were extinguished. It is always part of the plan to keep the sci civ around. Now it will be our dominance, and I mean our DOMINANCE, to complete this. I'm hoping lurkers are watching because this was a good game to watch. We ruled. I would like to try this game, AKA start, on a conquest type game. That would be nice fun.

preturn:

I sell Radio/MT to America and get WM+374gpt+3485g. MT to England for 140g+51gpt. China can only offer 18gpt, no thanks.

I then gift MT, Radio and Flight to Greece. He gets Rocketry! We trade Fission for it and start on Space Flight due in 8. Greece doesn't have Uranium.

We should be able to get Ecology/Synthetic Fibers from AI.

I start Apolo prebuild in P'yongyang.

Why haven't we planted any spy? It's not disallowed. So I try to plant one on Hitties but get caught.

We have 3 uraniums, which is infamous for disappearing. I suspect we want to disconnect at least one of them.

There is a worker standing on the valcano. :hmm:

Oh, we do have Aluminum, just under Tokch'on, the tundra city! Glad we founded it.

Capture Cologne/Stuttgard. Also capture Copan and kabah, which I'll give back to Maya next turn.

Kill bunch of infantry.

Lost totally 3 tanks in the process.

Switch Manhattan to Carrier. Start Manhanttan in another city for SS prebuild - we don't need Manhattan.

We need some settlers to settle on the other continent.

This preturn kept me busy. ;)

IBT we build Military Acadamy. Start army as perbuild for SS.

(1)1430AD: Give back the two cities to Maya. Capture Bonn. We got another leader, form a tank army. Switch Hyangsan to Pentagon in 6 turns.

Capture Leipzig and get another leader. Another army created.

WW has suddenly risen to more than 50% (could it because I gave the cities away?!). Have to raise lux to 30 and postpone Space Flight by one turn.

I start building Police Station to counter the WW.

IBT Maya kicks us out.

(2)1435AD: I decide to give back cities after the war is ended, just to make troop movements easier.

Capture Tulum and Calakmul, get another leader. I really don't know what to do. I rush Pentagon in Konigsberg.

We have a lot of pollution and our workers aren't enough to clean them up. I need to send some back..

Hitties take back Kabah which I just gave to Maya. I take it back.

(3)1440AD: We capture the remaining ex-Mayan cities. Bonampak has Copernicus.

I block the choke by MI completely, so Hitties cannot send more troops.

(4)1450AD: I found Sokch'o to claim another Uranium. Do not connect it though. Hamhung also founded a fill in gap.

The war is basidally ended. I will not make more effense. I start to send artillery back home.

IBT Sci Method to Maya for wines+14g.

(5)1455AD: Sci can be lowered to 60.

We lost some gpt payment. I sell our only saltpeter to America for 180g+38gpt. We could sell furs for about 30gpt but the fur city is going to be returned to Maya.

IBT Hitties send a cav to attack our choke.

(6)1460AD: I send the infantry amry and MI army with an explorer to pillage Hitties. Rush library in Cologne.

(7)1465AD: ZZZ

IBT Space Flight -> Satellites.

(8)1470AD: Hire some civil engineers to build courthouses.

IBT Apolo completed.

(9)1475AD: Switch prebuild to SS parts.

IBT Maya and China sign MPP.

(10)1480AD: I sign peace with Hitties and get 443g+WM. Drop lux to 0, Satellites in 4 turns with -11gpt. Give cities back as promised.

(11)1485AD: ZZZ

IBT Internet is due, our research speed is even faster.

(12)1490AD: ZZZ

(13)1495AD: I switch many cities to airport as I just realized it's free for us. Smith's is overpowered. These cities can go back to wealth after that.

Just noticed America and Greece have now Amphibious War. China and England entered Modern Ages too.

IBT Greece and Hitties make peace. Satellites -> Superconductor.

(14)1500AD: gems to Greece for 244g.

I may have lost one turn.

Superdocutcor in 6 turns. Palace and Manhattan are prebuild for the parts.

Research: go for Nuclear Power -> Laser -> Robotics, leave Ecology and Synthetic Fiber to the AI.

1500AD

This is the new world map:

AG5-1500AD.jpg

IHT: Looking good. I only do some minor changes...

IT: I renew the silks deal with China for gems and iron. SS Thrusters ready

Turn 1 (1505 AD) Nothing much

IT: America gets gems and 700 gold for spices.

Turn 2 (1510 AD) Cleaning polution

IT: The Chinese oil deal is ended, we get our gpt back. And then America enters our land with 50+ infantry and TOW's :o I thought this would be a calm turn!

Turn 3 (1515 AD) I ask the Americans to leave and they declare war. Our income drops 300 gpt, but the bulk was ending in 2 turns anyway. Science back to 80%, Superconductor still in 3.

Artillery softens up the smallest stack, which is in range of Nampo'o. The bigger stack can't do any harm in the IT. The two armies are loaded with tanks. The smallest stack is completely destropyed, a.o. by a H'wacha.

IT: The American TOW's from their lands manage to kill two mech infs and land another stack of troops.

Turn 4 (1520 AD) American troops also threaten cities on the Hittite island. We manage to kill 6 infantries there without losses. The bombers and artillery soften up a lot of troops in our homeland.
After some killing by tank armies only 23 American units remain in our lands. We got another leader and together with the army we created in a city this makes two more tank armies.

America has a lot of money, so I decide to MA the world vs them. England wants Gems and 100 gold, Greece wants 450 gold, China wants 350 gold.

IT: The Hittites and Maya sign peace. The Maya declare war on the Americans. They're alone now.

Turn 5 (1525 AD) We take Liverpool from America and now we control the Island to the SE of our homeland. About 30 American units are killed. Science to 50%, Superconductor still in 1.
Reinforcements from the Hittite island can help out next turn.

IT: Superconductor->Nuclear Power (in 5 at 100%).

Turn 6 (1530 AD) Our 80 artillery, 15 bombers and 6 tank armies have no troubles capturing Baltimore. Detroit is easier and only takes 5 tanks. No losses. I will keep on pushing the Americans back until I see no units.

IT: No movement of American troops, except for a few galleons.

Turn 7 (1535 AD) I try to plant a spy in America, but fail again. This is my third try that failed :( America allows us to talk to them, but it's too late. The only coal resource of the Americans is disconnected. Same for the dyes close to Seattle (bombers). St. Louis will surely fall next turn.

Greece give us 4790 gold, 236 gpt, amphibious war for Space Flight. We need it to continue our 100% research. The Maya get Atomic Theory for 45 gpt.

IT: War hapiness ends. A couple of cities riot because we miss the luxury we got from America.

Turn 8 (1540 AD) St. Louis falls only after heavy artillery fire and use of 6 armies, 5 tanks and 4 mech infs. There were a LOT of troops in this city. But it falls, just like Elmar on the Hittite island.

IT: SS Life support is finished.

Turn 9 (1545 AD) I end the siege, this is a space race. Not a conquest. And I've played more than enough war turns in the last few weeks ;)

IT: We finish another Space Ship part and the Manhattan Project. Maybe not needed, but I didn't want to switch to a space ship part losing a lot of shields.

Turn 10 (1550 AD) Science to 80%. Nuclear Power in 1. The AI knows Ironclads, not a MA tech :( I renew the wines deal with the Maya for Electronics. They throw in an extra 15 gpt.

IT: Greece and the Hittites sign a MA vs England. Nucl. Power->Satellites (in 5). One of our Uranium sources depletes, but luckily we get one back :)

Turn 11, 12 (1555, 1560 AD) Nothing much, except for some sinking of American Galleons.

IT: The citizens of St. Louis are upset by propaganda! But they don't riot.

Turn 13 (1565 AD) Nothing much.

IT: Greece signs peace with America and then England declares war on Greece. The same do the Maya and the Chinese.

Turn 14 (1570 AD) Quiet turn

Turn 15 (1575 AD) Science to 70%, The Laser still in 1.

The Americans aren't a threat. We could make peace in about ten turns, depending on the MA's we have. I moved the troops in their lands however, so next player could have a ball.

1575 ad save

Looks like Mao has 389gpt to give to our spaceship building fund! I'm thinking Laser > Ecology > SynFib> Robotics. The space part in SynFib is 640 shields while the Robotics part is 320. Easier prebuilding and who wouldn't like a Modern Armor or 2 for America! We have 9 turns left on MA's.
