AG5 - Honorable Space Race

IHT: Pyongyang switched to palace, Hyangsan switched to Newton. I see that we have 11 more turns in alliances vs the Maya. So I have to continue the war...

IT: We complete Newton.

Turn 1 (660 AD) America gives us Spices for Gems and 18 gpt. Science at 100%, steam in 4.
The Greeks are in the Industrial Age and have Nationalism. . I make peace with the Hittites for the world map.

Turn 2 (670 AD) We had war hapiness from the Hittites and a let a city riot. Greece wants to pay more than 200 gpt for Medicine. I don't do it.

IT: America kills a defender in Liverpool of the Maya, we might be too late. Greece starts Magellan.

Turn 3 (680 AD) Science lowered to 90%, steam still in 2. We are still in a GA though. Taegwon founded near the iron.

IT: The Greeks finish Leo. They would have gotten Newton...The Maya land a knight in our western regions. America takes Liverpool before our noses.

Turn 4 (690 AD) The Mayan knight is killed by one of our own. Troops at Liverpool move home. Greece pays 177 gpt and Military Tradition for Medicine (max prices). All others are still Medieval.

IT: Steam Power->Inudstrialization. Hittites finish Shakespeare.

Turn 5 (700 AD) I renew our incense deal with China for Gems and 23 gpt. At 100% we get industrialization in 5. We have coal, north of Pyongyang.

IT: We renew our Saltpeter, dyes deal with England for Physics, 18 gpt and gems.

Turn 6 (710 AD) America is industrial as well, no techs over us though.

IT: Maya and America sign peace.

Turn 7 (720 AD) 4 knights are promoted to cavalry. Railroading is first focussing on instant access of all cities and Seoul.
Science to 90%, Indu in 3.

I lost a turn somewhere...sorry...

IT: England start Magellan.

Turn 9 (740 AD) Science to 80%, Industrialization in 1.

Turn 10 (750 AD) [dance] Let's keep it for ToE!!!!!

AG5-sgl.JPG

Next up is Electricity. In 6. Palace is switched to Universal Suffrage, in 12. It would be nice to slow this down as a prebuild for ToE and use the SGL for Hoover. US is nice to have as well though. The AI is NOT trading max prices for Steam. I wouldn't sell. Also, I would make peace with the Maya - and trade luxes- ASAP. Next turn the last allaince vs them expires.

The science loving Koreans are smart. Would it work out better to SGL TOE in another city and use palace prebuild for Hoovers. That guarantees the techs, we can clean out treasuries for electricity or other tech on the lower branch. We would still be up AT and Elec and Hoovers would be in the bag with the palace prebuild. We would then have plenty o' cash for rushing some factories.

That should in and of itself postpone the prebuild long enough. I'll get a better feel once it's over and we see how much times remains for electricity. We still have SciMeth but it is 71% of the cost of electricity. It should work out. We'll see.
I think getting out of war is needed. After factories we can hope that China declares but we may be stuck with what we have. No big matter because after rails are up we are in the bag. I'll probably do some worker skimming also.

AG5 – 750AD
Looks like we’re out of the war in 1 turn. Whew! The workers have been at it getting the rail net down, which is nice. I’m going to get a rail spur headed north. Looks like Germany will need a hard to the next age to help us with tech so I get navigation & WM for chemistry. This lights up a lot of the world that was fogged. The Hittites have made great strides against the Maya. Americans have taken some Chinese lands. Swap Pusan to a court and MM Seoul and Hyangsan to factories in 5. We’re going to drop 115gpt from Alex over the next 3 turns so a trade will be coming. We are researching electricity in 6 at 100% so I check if some extra scientists will turn the trick to 5 turns. Nope, it isn’t happening. I have a scientist in almost every city. Switching them back now. What in the world is that Taegwon town on the island? We’re not desperate for iron. I can only figure it was taken from the mayans. I rush a library in it to try to relieve pressure. A worker and a harbor will be nice along with more defense. There are a load of American forces comprised of MDI, LB’s and the like on our border. Looking forward to factories finishing to build some cav.

IT – 2 more worker are built, Wonsan – Temple>Factory, Haeju-Aque>Bank, Taegwon – Lib>Wkr

[1] 760AD – Swapping a pike down to Cheju to upgrade to musket for a ride to island with a cav. Peace is next turn.

IT – Elizabeth wants to re-up our alliance. No thanks. Inchon – Bank > Harbor, Chongfu – Lib > Uni.

[2] 770AD – The reverse WW hits and lux to 10%. Science at 90% still gets electricity in 4. Now polite Mayans give us furs + wine for military tradition +7gpt. This should stabilize his war so the Hittites don’t run him over. I give Otto Physics for 2g. Roading railnet and next turn a musket and cav set sail.

IT – Maya and Germany sign peace. The GA ends. WLTK breaks out with 1.9.0 sliders.

[3] 780AD – Prebuild is now at 13 turns. Electricity can’t get below 4. I tried 5 scientist but it is at 4 at 90% - 100%. We make +59gpt. Railed a tile to get prebuild down to 12t.

IT – Our expansion in Taegwon is nice! Pusan – Court > Factory (shields are much improved), Kaesong – Harbor > Bank, Chonju – Harbor > Rax.

[4] 790AD – Rails hit all cities except tundra Tokch’on and gem city. ToG goes to Otto. I accidentally give the Chinese Physics.

IT – Hyangsan – Factory > worker skim (food full).

[5] 800AD – Electricity in 2. BTW, I have been watching Alex’s prices and I think he is researching a gov’t tech. Speaking of which, we will be heading for Democracy soon I would presume. Tried the scientist trick again to no avail to get electricity in 1.

IT – Hyangsan – Wrk > Musket, Taejon – Uni > Harbor, Chinje – Aque > Market.

[6] 810AD – Hurry the In’chon harbor for 84g. Abes offer for steam is dropping. Workers doing their thing. Here comes Electricity!

IT – It’s Scie meth in 5 at 100% and –71gpt. Seoul – Factory > cav, Inch’on – Harbor > Galleon. Greeks get Magellans.

[7] 820AD – Railed some more of prebuild to get it to 7t. Otto made it to IA with out me helping and has Nationalism. I can get it for both steam and medicine. Same with Mursillyass. Since Abe can’t give full price I deal for nationalism to Mursillyass Steam and Medicine for 8gpt + Nationalism. To Abe Steam for 92gpt + 65g. China we get Democracy +80g for ToG and Mag. Alex gives his last 41gpt + 110g for steam. That breaks em’ all. In 7 turns Alex will have another 177gpt available. By that time we will have hoovers. We have 1323g +70gpt at 100% research. Time to spend some factory rush money. Cheju gets it for 223g. Seoul swaps to worker skim with full box.

IT – China wants an MPP and ROP trade, Nah. Seoul – Wkr>Cav, Cheju – Factory > Rifle, Hyangsan – Cav > Rifle, Sariwon – Uni > Bank, Suwon – Harbor > Galleon. Tietsin overthrows Mao to be with us! Set to temple. I don’t think I can starve the 6 pop there though.

[8] 830AD – Roading a lot still. Upgrade a couple muskets to get to the front lines. Those American SOD’s that were at our border for so long have been moving around for the past 2-3 turns. They are now between Baltimore and Detroit by our gems. Germany can afford 43gpt for steam and kicks in his last 49g, FA and WM.

IT – Think I lost a turn on the computer bombing.

[9] 840AD - Computer bombs. Shoot. It was the popheads in the Art directory. No policemen. Had to download the smiley face version. Thought I had fixed that before. We hurry Ulsans factory for 216g. The others are starting to gather some cash. Rush the temple in Tietsin.

IT – Some builds.

[10] Still roading. SciMeth in 2 and prebuild in 4.

I read trough it quickly barbslinger. I noticed that you like Democracy. I think it's not good enough compared to Repbulic to switch. I recommend staying in Republic until the end.

EDIT: But it's absolutely fabolous to see that switchinf from Leo to palace ultimately nets us Hoover :) Also good to finally have that world map.

I'd love to take it, but I am today extremely busy at work (visa for China must be requested and stuff. takes time). Also have AG3 running.

so if someone else can take it, please?

I'll also be AWAY from tomorrow around 15:00 to Saturday morning.

aggie: I was talking in general about the next few days.
sorry, but this one is a :nono: for them, so please take me off 'on deck'

Preturn check: lower science to 80, sci method still in 2.

I love the way Taegwon pushed Reading. A lot of folks lack coal. China lacks iron but he couldn't pay anything except WM, so we are not in a hurry to connect the iron yet.

We are in serious tech lead!

Our military is a little thin. We are paying 98gpt for unit upkeep? But I still see most of them are reg warriors!

IBT Pollution strikes capital. Paegam bank->factory. Why do we have 2 taxmen in it? Let them work immediately.

Tokch'on worker->worker.

(1)860AD: roading. Converting some tiles around Seoul from irrigation to mine.

IBT Spices deal expired with America, I don't renew. Sci Method->Atomic Theory. Seoul cav->cav. Cheju rifle->rifle. Hyang rifle->rifle. Ulsan rax->rifle. Inch'on galleon factory.

(2)870AD: I switch Universal Suffrage to ToE. (note, I could have switched it in the interturn after Sci Meth is discovered using the "Big Picture" choice, but it's disallowed by the RBC rules, which I don't believe in spirit is correct in this specific case, but I'll stick to it anyway). I then shut off research this turn.

I start to disband reg warriors.

IBT ToE in, get Atomic Theory and Electronics.

(3)880AD: rush Hoover in P'yongyang. What to research next? I start Replaceable Parts - although AI usually would research it, but nobody even has electricity yet, and it would be nice to have double speed workers.

I could sell Electricity to America for 100gpt, but nobody else could offer anything, so I hold.

(4)890AD: I start Universal Suffrage in Seoul due in 13. Some big payment expired so time for another round of trading!

America's 100gpt is gone. :( And he gets Communism. Greece agrees to pay 76g+296gpt, not full price but good enough! I make the deal. Hitties agrees to pay ivory+WM+50g+49gpt, not good enough so I hold (and Hitties is gaining in the war vs Maya so I don't want to boost it).

IBT Greece start Universal Suffrage.

(5)900AD: I ask Mao to leave, he agrees.

IBT America and Greece sign MPP. incense deal with China expired, I ship Medicine to it for incense+WM+38g. Medicine+gems to England for saltpeter+dyes+10g.

(6)910AD: America has Industrialization.

(7)920AD: Buy an American worker.

I sell Nationalism to England for WM+21gpt+20g. Cheap, but money is money.

(8)930AD: zzz

IBT Hitties demands gems, I tell him to go away. He declares.

(9)940AD: Lots of cities riot because we lost some lux from Hitties. Lux raise to 10. I rush harbor in Taegwon.

(10)950AD: I set Research to Corporation in 5.

Hitties dropped a reg cav next to Taegwon, which is killed by our cav.

We don't have rubber. :( But maybe it will show up next turn.

I also suggest we ally America against Hitties (gems would do). Maybe America is shipping its spices to it, and then we can buy it back. Currently we have to raise lux to 10. We can build some cathedrals too.

We have 3 galleons and 1 galley which can be upgraded. I didn't move them. Then we can load some cavs, rifles and probably settlers to the Hitties land for some serious damage. We want to capture the furs city, and if possible also the ivory city too.

Depending on the situation, we may want to get a dogpile on Hitties and get this war going as far as possible. He is getting big so now is the oppertunity to weaken it. There is rubber next to Hattusas.

Our military is not strong, but we have the strongest production and can produce military very fast. We have enough gold to rush some factories.

The Hittites and America have rubber enough. So in time they will be able to trade it. That's the way we have to do it until America declares war.

I'm up, but I'm not going to rush it. Then Stuck can take it again. It looks like the four of us have to finish this...

Paegam bank->factory. Why do we have 2 taxmen in it? Let them work immediately. I did that because the two workers were working non gold tiles and we got more gold that way. It worked out better at the time. Yes, we look to have a runaway tech lead. I think it's time to plan to get Germany back in the game so he can help us get to the ship quicker.
On the Hittites I would ally England and Abe against him and hope he signs the Chinese against us.

Hm? Are you looking at your own save? It's certainly building factory now and there are no taxmen. That was the case with your save.

EDIT: sorry, it was a quote from my report. But you didn't put a quote around it.

IHT: To protect my trade interest (Greece gives us 295 gpt) I get MA's with Greece and America vs the Hittites. Both for gems.

We don't have rubber, but others have two of them. So no worries there.

I switch a lot of military to artillery.

Turn 1 (960 AD) I buy spices from America for 38 gpt. Luxury now to 0%.

IT: Maya and Hittites sign peace.

Turn 2 (970 AD) Barracks in Taegwon rushed.

Turn 3 (980 AD) Science to 80%. No other has the Corporation yet :) We have it in 2.

Turn 4 (990 AD) Nothing much

IT: We discover Corporation. Next up is Refining, to spot where the oil is.

Turn 5 (1000 AD) We will have Refining in 7. Corporation appears to be a monopoly, but we can't check the Hittites, who don't want to talk.

Turn 6 (1010 AD)

Turn 7 (1020 AD) America wants to pay Communism and 50 gpt for the Corporation. But I don't do it, because there are no other potential buyers...

IT: America and Hittites sign peace. How fast can you betray someone? We get the Universal Suffrage [dance] America delcares war on the Hittites :crazyeye: This is a cheap way to end the MA and still have the MA effect!

Turn 8 (1030 AD) The Hittites have the money to trade, but we have that MA with Greece. Not that we are in need of that money ;)

Turn 9 (1040 AD)

Turn 10 (1050 AD) We are now able to build Wall Street. Science to 80%, Refining still in 2.

We are cruising. All we really have to do is getting the missing resources by trade and then launch. I don't mind a fight, but this is only possible when provoked. I didn't do anything against the Hittites, because I found it too time consuming and not necessary. We COULD go for Saniation now, but also continuing the path to Motorized transport is ok. I would not sell for prices below marketvalue.
