AG5 - Honorable Space Race

Hey everybody. This is going to sound really weird, but my director extended the run of my show. Appearantly it went well...
Anyway, I'm going to have to drop from both AG5 and AG9 because this will take another week, followed by my AP World Exam, followed by my Band Trip to Florida. [sarcasm]Three cheers for over acheving[/sarcasm]...
Sorry to have to do this.

Especially on this one, seeing as we're short.

AG5 – 1050AD

Pre-turn – At war with Hittites. 10 on an alliance with Greece. Right up there with the big boys in power, score and culture. Numero uno in production and GNP. 1st order of the day is to increase that lead and I rush 3 factories and 2 markets. We have a lot of cash. We get spice from Abe for 11 turns, Incense from Mao for 5 along with dyes and salt from Cathy for 5. As I go to tech screens on F6 it looks like my format is different. I’m saving to see if it is on my SP games, please hold….. well it’s in my reg games too. Have to figure it out out later. The tech trees have a different format now. We have to get some of these guys working the tree for us. I give ssteam to the Mayans for wines, 26gpt some gold and a WM. I know it is advisable to not sell. But they are way behind and we are going to need some help to finish this ship. Otherwise we’ll be researching the whole thing by ourselves. I think I’ll wait though before I commit fully to this plan of action. They are demi-god and should make some strides sooner or later. What we do need is some rubber. Hittites and America have 2 each, so we wait until Abe gets to industrialization or we end the war with the Hittites.

Here we go….

IT – Taegu – Market > Harbor, Wonsan – Arty > Arty, Tietsin – Market > Uni, Inchon – Paegam and Kaesong – Factortories > Stock Exchanges.

[1] 1060AD – Workers working. Not much left to do. Need sanitation.

IT – Seoul – Stk Ex > Cath, Pyongyang, Pusan and Cheju – Artys > Caths, Nampo – Arty > Arty, Taejon – Bank > Temple. I started this happiness drive because refining is in and I picked sanitation in 4 @ 90% making 115gpt. The worker jobs are nearly complete and merging in is upcoming. Whoa! Are we allowed? Hold……….. yes we are! We have no oil.

[2] 1070AD – Workers going at it. No good offers for gems. No full price offers anywhere else. China has a town on the other continent I see. No more deals for him. I’d still like his land if he would just declare.

IT – Wonsan – Arty > Cath, Ulsan – Arty > Arty, Chonju – Temple > Granary. It has a lot of hills and will take forever to populate.

[3] 1080AD – Lots of working. Merged a few workers. Swap 2 cathedrals to artys so I can use cathedral as a prebuild for hospitals. Rushed a StkX in Inchon. It is making 69g right now and that will increase. Still crappy deals out there.

IT – Seoul and Pyong – Arty > Cath, Inchon – StkX > Coll prebuild. It will need a temple and cath soon.

[4] 1090AD – Working and merging.

IT – Hyangsang – WALL STREET > Cath, Haeju – StkX > temple.

[5] 1100AD I renegtiate with Cathy. Gems + 480g for dyes. 10% lux is worth 105gpt so it is worth it. Sanitation next turn. Shuffling workers to mountains now. I swapped a grass in Seoul to mine to get it to 50spt. Alex gives 235gpt and 360g for Corporation. I deal Electricity to Cathy for 510g and saltpeter. It keeps it out of Abes hands who has none but does have electricity. Abe is offering 54gpt for corporation. It’s worth more. Will Alex sell it to him?

IT – Sanitation comes in. Ulsan – Arty > Arty. Steel in 6 @ 90% and 125gpt.

[6] 1110AD – Swap cathedrals over to hospitals. Many coming due. Just did a complete scan for oil and the closest is right across our vorder in Xinjian. I’m swapping builds to culture and both are expanding in the next 7-8 turns. Perhaps another flip? Just rushed a number of items including a uni on that border, a 2 turn hospital that has a full food box and a couple temples. Here comes a load of builds. Also, sure enough, Abe has Corporation. Sci Meth goes to Alex for full price 1508g and 165gpt. 166gpt was close. This time I’m taking Abe’s 56gpt before Alex gets it. For some reason China is still polite. Alex still has 65gpt to spend but I’m not dealing.

IT – Wow! Pusan, Cheju, Seoul, Pyong, Wonsan,Hyangsang – Hospitals > Cathedrals. Germany and Henry embargo us. Nampo – Temple > StkX, Tietsin – Uni > Rax, Taejon – Temple > Hospital, Paegam – Cathedral > Hospital, Chonju > Granary > Factory, Haeju – Temple > Factory. We can build battlefield medicine. Whew!

[7] 1120AD – Paegam expands in 11t, Nampo in 6t so perhaps a flip soon. Right now I don’t see the need for battlefield med so I’m holding off. No good deals. Waiting for all the cities to grow 1 before doing some merging for shield optimization. Rushed a couple little things. We have a lot of cash and Alex will keep us flush.

IT – Inchon – Hosp > Temple, Kaesong – StkX > Rax, Sariwon – StkX > Temple, Chinje – Uni > Bank, Tokch’on > Rushed court > Market, Chongfu – Bank > StkX.

[8] 1130AD – Working on mountains and swapping tiles. Abe and others have industrialization. Man they get that stuff cheap. Anyhow, he’s already selling his rubber elsewhere.

IT – Germany and Greece ally together against Henry. Embargo is over. Wonsan – Cathedral > Arty, Ulsan – Arty > arty, Haeju – Factory > Hospital.

[9] 1140AD – Workers and a couple of rushes. Here come the cathedrals.

IT – Seoul, Pusan, Pyongyang and Cheju – Caths > Rifles and Cavs. Tietsin – Rax > Hosp, Inchon – Temple > Cath, Paegam – Hospital > StkX, Kaesong – Rax > Granary.

[10] 1150AD – Dropped the deal with Alex on alliance. We can del with Henry full price on Sci Meth, 43gpt, 330g, Ivory and WM. We can get more for RP but then he has infantry. He does have an extra rubber though so I’ll leave to up to next leader on whether to deal it or not. I probably wold because both of his rubbers are hooked up and we wold be able to get one now for upgrades.

1150AD SAVE

Good work Barbslinger :)

Barbslinger, microbe: I like to finish this, despite the fact that we are only with the three of us. Do you mind? If so, then I have to ask CarlosMM to continue, he told me that he wants to cut down on sg's. I think we are going to win easily without a lot of battles (which take a lot of time). So 3 should be ok...

Microbe is up..., I'm on deck.

But... if Mao decides he wants some he is going to get some. Also we need to start doing some creative trading to move Germany along to the modern ages for their free tech and the others to speed the space race up without losing or advantage.

I agree with that barbslinger (to get the tech speed up). That means that we have to trade techs even if they are way under marketprice. I should however not endanger our chances to get a tech at first. So I suggest to trade a tech only when we are 2 or 3 turns into research of another one.

ROSTER:
Barbslinger
Microbe-------> up
Aggie---------> on deck

With 3 men in the game I think we should play 15 turns each.

Preturn: we are strong in every aspect! Lower sci to 60 Steel still in 2.

By the way, we should have researched Radio first - let AI do Steel/Refining first and we could either trade or self-research with a much cheaper cost. Anyway..I'll do it after Steel.

I sell Sci Method to Hitties for 81gpt+325g. Industrialization to China for incense.

We still have a lot of reg and outdated units. I start disbanding them.

IBT I build riflemen to replace ancient units.

(1)1160AD: Hmm, just find out we don't have either oil or rubber. 95g to buy a Chinese worker.

IBT renew spices with gems+14gpt from Abe. Steel->Radio.

(2)1170AD: Radio is in 7 with max sci.

(3)1180AD: Seems we have nothing else to build but riflemen. We could disband them in edge towns to speed up infra though.

(4)1190AD: ZZZ

(5)1200AD: AI has Sanitation - last turn I could still sell to Greece for ~100gpt. :(

(6)1210AD: ZZZ

(7)1220AD: ZZZ

(8)1230AD: ZZZ

IBT Hitties destroyed Germany. It's quite big now. Radio->Combustion.

(9)1240AD: Hitties has passed us in score. I guess Maya is going to be the next target.

(10)1250AD: Industrialization to Maya to renew wines.

Abe has Espionage. I start prebuild for Intelligence Agency.

IBT England and Greece MA vs Hitties. America and Hitties make peace.

(11)1255AD: I get Espionage+ivory from Hitties for Replaceable Parts+32g.

(12)1260AD: gems+14gpt from Hitties for rubber. Upgrade 32 riflemen to infantry for 960g. Cheap!

(13)1265AD: upgrade the remaining riflemen.

IBT Combustion->Mass Production.

(14)1270AD: I sell Sanitation+Electricity to China for Communism+WM+14g. We may need Police Station in the remote cities.

IBT Ametica demands Refining. No way. He didn't declare. Hitties demand Steel. No way. He declares. Don't know why, but seems Hitties don't like me too much considering it declared twice on us in my turns. Have to say it's :smoke: for Hitties to give us Rubber to upgrade then declare on us.

We also lose saltpeter from England but I don't renew for now.

Also witness Hitties taking Reading from England, and apparently got a leader by an elite cav..

(15)1275AD:  Hitties must have rushed a regular rifleman by the leader. We kill the riflemen+2 cavs and take Reading (just before I wanted to raze it I realized it was NOT honorable!). Yes, during my turns I reinforced Taegwon to make it possible.

Is this the first city we took from AI in this game?!

It's up to Aggie how far we should go in the war. I've no problem either way although I really like to get some rubber or oil. Look at this:

AG5-1275AD.jpg

The town should be quite easy to take and it gets both saltpeter and rubber.

It's also up to Aggie whether or not to renew saltpeter from England..

1275AD

I was just thinking that we should help every civ that has to defend themselves vs the Hittites. Defending their borders and recapturing their cities. I'm going to check to situation thoroughly, but I am tempted to take Munich at least. I probably won't kill the Hittites, to stay in the spirit of the game. According to the rules we are allowed to take out the Hittites now, but I like it better when we only take the former German cities, for example.

The Hittites..they were also a pian in AG3. Or rather...the caused WW1 which is still going on after 60 turns :)

I'd like to trim the Hittite empire a bit. I was a little dismayed to see the trade of "Espionage+ivory from Hitties for Replaceable Parts+32g". It just isn't worth it giving them jack. Now that we are at war lets get to tanks first and roll him. I haven't had a good tank clash in a while. Take the cities and gift them back to various civs. Spread it around. When the Hittites are eliminated it will leave a mosiac of civs left over there that will be fighting until we launch.

The reason to trade was mainly to get rubber. Almost all others had RP already for quite a while, so I was actually surprised why it didn't get it (probably because the war, but Hitties/America made peace just one turn earlier). Since we are playing defensively, I think getting infantry for ourselves was more important. All things considered, I believe it was the right thing to do.

IHT: We need oil and the Chinese have two resources, but not hooked up. I will sell Refining to my friends, but will include a MA vs the Hittites, as an extra insurance that they won't betray us.

-America gets refining for 114 gpt, 157 gold and an alliance vs the Hittites
-China gives us fascism, 13 gold for refining and a MA vs the Hittites.
-England gives us Dyes, Saltpeter, 15 gpt and 30 gold for Refining.
-The Greeks pay marketprices (42 gpt and 30 gold for Refining and alliance vs the Hittites).

The Maya don't get anything, because they are very backward.

Turn 1 (1280 AD) Greece gets Atomic Theory for 168 gpt and 30 gold. America gets Atomic Theory for 131 gpt and 150 gold.

Galleons are filled with troops...

IT: We finish the Intelligence Agency. The Hittites move Galleons SE of our borders...

Turn 2 (1285 AD) More troops are shipped.

Turn 3 (1290 AD) We are almost ready with the improvements of our lands. I'm going to merge more workers. Science now to 20%, Mass Production still in 1. 1287 gpt...

IT: England and China sign a MPP. The Hittites land 4 cavalry near Norwich, which is on the little island.
Mass Production discovered. Motorized Transport is next (in 4 at 100% science).

Turn 4 (1295 AD) We drop our troops on a mountain SE of Nuremberg.

Turn 5 (1300 AD) I renew the incense deal with China for Gems and 31 gpt.
Artillery redlines an infantry, rifle and cavalry in Nuremberg. Three cavs autoraze the city. Artillery also softens up the defense in Heidelburg, but we haven't got enough cavalry to take that city. More troops land on the same mountain.

IT: The Hittites manage to take Norwich with four cavalry. Four other Hittite cavalry don't succed in killing even one infantry on the mountain. The counterattack of the Hittites isn't fierce. They appear to be afraid to attack uphill.

Turn 6 (1305 AD) Two cavalry take Norwich from the Hittites. Artillery redlines four defender in Berlin. But one survives, because we only have three cavalry close by. More troops are in position now though.

IT: We renew the Gems - Spices deal with America.

Turn 7 (1310 AD) Artillery redlines 4 defenders in Berlin and 5 cavalry are needed to take Berlin. It already has two Hittite citizens, who riot.
Science to 90%. Motorized Transport in 1. To prepare for Tanks I now buy Oil for Steel and 400 gold from China.
I try to plant a spy in the Hittite capital and fail.
A number of Galleons is upgraded to transports for a total of 2250 gold.

IT:  At least 30 cavalry attack Berlin. They manage to kill 3 infantry. But the city holds. We get a Scientific Great Leader when we discover Motorized Transport :hammer:
Next is Flight, in 5.

Turn 8 (1315 AD) Hmmm, we need rubber as well. And that is not ours yet...far from it. I manage to redline a number of infantry close to Berlin. The Hittites have 40 units close to us, but most cavalry is severly wounded. Galleons are upgraded to transports and next turn they will cross the ocean.

IT: Now the Hittites throw 15 units at us, mostly infantry. They all die for a good cause.

Turn 9 (1320 AD) Artillery redlines the troops outside Berlin and cavalry kills a couple of them.

IT: China and the Hittites make peace :( The Hittites again attack Berlin with 15 cavalry, but they don't succeed in killing one infantry, while they lose 7.

Turn 10 (1325 AD) America gives us 262 gpt and 1700 gold for Cumbustion.

IT: The Hittites kill two rifles in the counterattack, but the number of Hittite units is getting lower.

Turn 11 (1330 AD) War hapiness is over, Seoul riots. Berlin's borders expanded after rushing some culture. New troops arrive in the city. We are now going to take some other cities... Artillery fire and two cavalry are needed to take Konigsberg. The rest of the troops is used to kill Hittites close to our two cities. Next turn the invasion of the Saltpeter and Rubber city starts...

IT: 4 cavalry of the Hittites retreat vs our infantry in Konigsberg. China declares war on the Hittites, due to a MPP.

Turn 12 (1335 AD) Science to 70%. Flight stil in 1. Troops are sent to a hill from where they can take two cities.

IT: A massive attack on Kongisberg with at least 20 cavs almost bring the fall of that city. But we manage to hold it with two cavalry left. We lost 3 infantry, 3 rifles, 2 cavalry and a guerilla.
We disover Flight and our free tech is Fission. Next tech is Computers. War weariness hits.

Turn 13 (1340 AD) Luxury goes to 10% and I rush the UN with our SGL. We have three sources of Uranium.

Heavy artillery bombardment redlines defenses of Munich and Hamburg. We need 14 cavalry to kill 8 infantry, but we take Hamburg and Munich. This mean that we control another Uranium, Saltpeter and Rubber when our borders expand.

IT: A lot of retreating troops of the Hittites, we are spread thin now and I rush an airport for easier transport. Two Hittite cavalry land on the little island, next to Taegwon.

Turn 14 (1345 AD) Regrouping. The two Hittite cavalry units near Taegwon are killed. Fresh troops sail to our new cities. Again I fail when trying to plant a spy.

IT: Not a lot of Hittite troop movement. Hamburg and Munich end resisting, but riot now. They should rush culture improvements asap. Airport finished in Konigsberg.

Turn 15 (1350 AD) Mop up a few cavalry units in our new lands. The infantry are redlined and left alone, because I'm afraid that they will kill our cavalry. 3 airfields created in our homeland (with non-native workers). These are very cheap and very practical to transport troops. I fly three infantry over to Konigsberg.

Two transports are on their way to Konigsberg. I would like it very much when we only take the German cities from the Hittites. But next player is free to choose otherwise. Bremen has ivory! The last interturn was very relaxed, but I fear that the Hittites still have a lot of troops. Don't spread our troops too thin, defend those former German cities well! Manhattan project is a prebuild for SETI. We want that wonder and after that we should research Miniaturization to get the Internet. Remember that we still have 10 turns in MA's vs the Hittites. Also: don't starve or raze cities needlessly!

1350 AD save

Good to get the rubber/saltpeter(and Uranium?) city!

But

I will sell Refining to my friends, but will include a MA vs the Hittites, as an extra insurance that they won't betray us.

This is a bad idea. We'll lose gpt payment if they make peace.
