I am simply curious to see if there's a connection between age and the reluctancy towards Steam. Please don't start any unnecessary discussions.

Positive - Characterized by displaying acceptance of Steam.
Negative - Indicating resistance towards Steam.
If you don't care, then I guess that's a indirect acceptance, ergo; positive. But you can interpret that as you wish, or just don't vote.

What is "positive" and "negative" supposed to mean?
Positive means you like steam, or you have positive reluctance?
What about "don't care about Steam"?

29, don't care.

I guess the people who rage here about that steam will collect there data will not be very willed to let their data be collected in a poll here...

That would only be the ones that are really paranoid to the point of needing medical care, though.

I didn't vote, but you could be right.

It's as anonymous as I could make it. :)

I know, but to contribute something here, i would have to mention for what i voted ;).

Whatever, go on, let's see the result :).

Hey toft i found your topic very interesting. Any plans to use SPSS after your research ends?. As of June 2010 you have little data to do so. But i really would like to see how it ends.

Hehe, no I am just curious to see if the bellcurves are aligning or slighty shifted one way or another.

I voted 21-30 Negative(25) but I didn't even read your post, and as I have accepted steam as inevitable, and do plan on buying it, I believe I should be in the Positve group. Its my own fault, but it seemed so obvious.... :)

I do in the end view steam as something negative for me, because of my own personal circumstances. I considered myself a hardcore gamer back when Blade Runner pc was out, I didnt know what a patch was, or why Id need one, and I could buy a pc game on a friday, beat it on a saturday, return it to compusa, get a whole new game with store credit, and continue the cycle. Its hard to believe, but things were that different. Steam may be for my generation, but its not for me. If I was that same kid I was years ago(lol ya I know Im only 25 ) I would have hated steam to my core....

I voted negative as I'm going to buy civ5 no matter what, because I'm an addict, but quite frankly I'd rather it be DRM free. I do already own one other "steam" game, but the only reason I bought that was because I beta-tested it and through that process came to think it was worth the buy - otherwise civ5 would be my first "steam" game, because I plan on buying the deluxe version.

I think this poll is going to give off flawed data...while many of the inter-decades have things in common...an 11-12-13yo is seriously alien to a 18-19-20yo and prob shouldnt be lumped together..except maybe if the 20 yo is a member of nambla

What does the National Association of Marlon Brando Look A-likes have to do with anything?

To be more precise, Reluctance needs its place between Acceptance and Resistance. Those who are reluctant, or are otherwise unhappy about Steam, may tend towards choosing a grumbling Acceptance, over an open Resistance option. As we've seen in other polls, many folks choose a Will Buy, but would rather not have Steam.

I'm going to make a wild guess here... our older voters tend to have more experiance with buggy software, hence they may exibit a lower tolerance towards an extra piece of software like Steam. Been there done that, tired of dealing with it already. Also going to guess that our older civers will tend towards putting more thought behind their purchases. LoL I also assume that many younger voters will think the older crowd irrelevent.

I guess we all age differently but I was much more radical when I was younger and I know that in this case I would have been more resistant then than now.
In my experience the wisdom gained with age and experience has tempered my emotional response to minor annoyances and given me a greater ability to 'see the bigger picture', understand why things are happening and evaluate which things are truly important.
I find this has made me more accepting, less suspicious and much happier than when I worried about every cause I came across.
Or I'm just going senile...take your pick.

I voted 31-40 Positive, but see below:

I think this poll is going to give off flawed data...

I agree. The OP lumps in those who are reluctant to purchase Steam, but will so because of Civ, with the positive side. It would have been more accuracte with a middle ground, though if I'm reading it right, I'm inclined to believe the OP is more curious to learn of the negative age groups then anything about the positive side.

To be more precise, Reluctance needs its place between Acceptance and Resistance.

I agree. I don't mind Steam, but I'd prefer it not be required. I'll still buy Civ 5, just because its Civ 5, but I'd rather have it separate from Steam.

I am not trying to do some kinda rocket-science project here, I was just curious. So far it looks like 2 bellcurves that somewhat align with each other if you factor out the slight majority of positive votes.

I'm curious about the 0yo fetus lobby..how will they vote ?

They were all aborted for failing to vote in the last election.

Also by reason of being excessively delicious!
