Age of Civ Fans...

I do not know exactly when I started but I know that my first civilization was test of time. Now I am 20 and have been playing civ3 for the last 3years. Recently I lost all interest in it:mischief: because of all those new civ4 screenshots and news. I just can't wait any more.
A real life, next turn button would now be very useful :D .

So youngest one here is 13 and oldest is in his 50's. I have a cousin who is 8 and is hooked on it too. The civ series appeals to people as all ages I guess.

Well...My wife love CIV 3 she introduced to me the game and now i playing it too! We are eagerly waiting for the Civ 4 to be released!

both of us 30 years old!

I am 20 yo and i started with civ1 when i was something like 10 or 11, don't really remember. I was already addict.

hi holy king, i'm bob and have been a civaholic too, since civ 3 came out.

I'm sure this one has been asked before so maybe someone could just give me a briefing: how many of the Civ fans are female? My guess is between 15% to 20%

23 been playing the game since I was 11 got me into history actually. Now I'm gonna teach it soon... Thanks Sid you changed my life lol...

Would be interesting to find out....
I for one am a female!!!!! And I've seen several others around.... :D

Tyr here. Long time lurker, (VVVERRY LOOONG) first time poster.

I'm 36.

Got interested in Civ by playing Alpha Centauri. Since then I've gotten every civ related game available to me.

Civilization IV is including more of what made SMAC great so my hopes are high.

Padma's a guy? OMFG, my aplogies, Padma! I always figured Padma was named after Padme, you know, the Star Wars Queen/Senator frim episodes I, II, and III. I have referred to Padma as "she" and "her" on a couple of occasions. Oh, no... *slaps face*
Which is why I have sometimes pointed out my nick is Padma, not Padme. :p Padma the OutBond is a character in Gordon Dickson's Childe Cycle series of SF stories. Those familiar with them may understand why I picked the persona of a "wise old man". ;)

For the record, I will be 51 next month. Lefty is slightly younger (a couple months). Col (an OT mod) is a couple years older. gmaharriet (grandma) is in her 60s.

And this thread actually comes up quite frequently. We mods just keep closing them and pointing to current/existing threads. But this is the first in the Civ4 forums. :)

Edit: Would you also be surprised to learn that I am a professional software engineer? That my home system runs Linux, not Windows? And at work, to paraphrase Dilbert: "I surf the web while my program is compiling."

Edit2: The generally accepted percentage of female posters here has been ~10%. ;)

At 51, I seem to be the oldest one who's actually posted in this thread so far. I bought Civ 1 for DOS in 1992, when I was 38 and living in Sweden. Now living in Spain and awaiting Civ 4.

I have the Avalon Hill Civilization board game upstairs in the attic. But that game was created in 1980 by a British company (Hartland Trefoil); I remember playing it sometime in the 1980s. Avalon Hill just bought it and tweaked the rules slightly.

I also bought Avalon Hill's computer version of the same game, which came out in 1995 and was called Advanced Civilization (to distinguish it from Sid Meier's Civilization, I suppose!). I can no longer get it to run on my present computer under Windows XP.

I see on the Web that Hartland Trefoil was taken over by Microprose in 1998.

I'm 26. I started with civ1 and also have civ2 and 3, I still have the original amiga version with me now. Four floppy disks of joy!

+1 -the amiga version ;) Started playing with a friend of mine. After 10 turns, the addiction kicked in with full force. He hooked me up. It's all his fault, really. Ever since I try to fight the addiction. But ohnoes, I see another HUGE relapse looming on the horizon! *help*

I am 24, and have been a fanatic since Civ1. I, too, have fond memories of conquering the world to Nirvana.

I'll jump in. I'll be 38 in a few days. Been playing since Civ1 in 1991.

Actually, they recently revamped it to play more like the computer version. http://www.boardgames.com/civilization.html if anyone is interested. I hear it takes like 5 hours to play a game, and you need to play a few before you can get some strategy down. I might it for a friend for Christmas, but I don't know if we'll ever find that kind of time to play a Civ board game, lol. :)
