Exactly what I had in mind :)

Having sex: puberty**

*By all accounts I've encountered, countries where it is permitted and usual for children to drink alcohol given to them by their parents have much fewer problems with drunkenness and alcoholism. There is no 'forbidden fruit' aspect of alcohol for teenagers who have been drinking moderate amounts of wine or beer with their parents all their lives. So I believe that if we set no limit on drinking at home with the family, then legalize the independent purchase of alcohol at around 16 or so (it could probably be even lower than that), then by the time kids could buy it for themselves, they'd be much less likely to abuse it.

**Age of sexual consent is a very tricky issue with me. I had to give it a great deal of thought when an entire thread on that very topic came up once. The conclusion I came to, in summary, was: humans are biologically supposed to begin having sex at puberty. That's why it happens. So to make a law whereby a human who has reached puberty still cannot have sex because they haven't reached some arbitrarily chosen age is absurd. But modern society being as complex as it is, we would also have to make every effort to educate children about sex so that by the time they reached puberty and become physically (and legally) capable of the act, they'd know what they were getting into and would be less likely to get into trouble for it.
Where I ran into a barrier was the notion of, say, a 50-year-old having sex with a 14-year-old. The idea is repulsive to me, but no more so than the idea of a 50-year-old having sex with an 18-year-old, or a 25-year-old. But it hardly seems reasonable to impose limits on age difference if both partners have reached puberty, have been properly educated about sex, and both consent to the act. The dilemma, for me, was whether it really is wrong, morally wrong, for a 50-year-old to have sex with a 14-year-old, or whether I merely think of it as wrong because my culture has conditioned me to respond that way. I have not reached a solution to this one yet.

Drinking: 12
Smoking Weed:12
Having Sex:12

driving: 25
smoking : no age limit
drinking: no age limit
smoking weed: no age limit
having sex: 25

The middle three can be policed personally and through family or just abstained from.

The first and last... People tend to be a little more responsible as they get older. We need jobless brainless idiots having sex and driving around? NO, we don't.

I'll add another option for myself here.

cell phone: ILLEGAL

drinking:16
smoking: 10
weed: 18
driving: 18(only because I'm 18 now ;) )

having sex: I think it's impossible and somewhat dumb to try to set an age limit on sex. Of course, paedophilia should be severly punished, but forbiding over 18 people to have sex with under 18 can get complicated. For exemple, should we forbid someone 18 to have sex with his 17 year old girlfriend?
And if a consenting couple of 12 years wants to it, fine by me.

driving:17 So that you can drive yourself to work if you opt not to go to colledge.
smoking :18 but getting progressively higher each year to "phase out" cigarettes
drinking:18 but getting progressively higher each year to "phase out" alchohol
smoking weed:illegal it doesn't need to be phased out because it is already illegal
having sex:18 If you're allowed to be drafted then you should be allowed to have sex.

Interesting, pot before alcohol? Quite a reversal of the current law. :)

Kids need to question things, and when you have a bunch of ignorant people with the "I know best" attitude, alcohol is the last thing they need. Better to start them off on a drug that promotes analyzation and that reverses needless deference to someone because society says they are important.

driving:15
smoking : Illegal
drinking:13
smoking weed:Illegal
having sex: 13

driving: old enough to have decent reflexes and see over the dashboard & reach the pedals while sitting on the seat

smoking : whenever you want, provided you're willing to release the cigarette companies from blame for your behavior

drinking: when you're mature enough to do so in a responsible manner

smoking weed: the higher quality the dope, the older you have to be

having sex: have finished puberty

Sex at twelve? Alot of boys wouldn't be capable to have sex at twelve. Girls, yes, but boys, a good number of them wouldn't.

If I understood my sex ed class right.

Driving: 18
Smoking: 18, or 8 for selected individuals
Drinking: 21
Voting: Males over 21 who have completed their period of national military service and are judged to be of good character
Furthering of the species:12 for those given permission by the state breeding authority, inside marriage. Sanctions against adultery and assorted immorality up to and including death by hanging.
Partaking in illegal substances: Death by hanging

Is the sex age the age at which you believe it's ok to have sex, or the age at which you think someone is able to give their consent? They're quite different. The "right time" to become sexually active is different for everyone, and it doesn't really matter when it is since most people are going to become active before they're ready anyway.

I don't see how you can justify having the age to give consent at something like 12. A 12 year old legally having sex with an adult is wrong in so many ways I don't even know where to start.

Sex at twelve? Alot of boys wouldn't be capable to have sex at twelve. Girls, yes, but boys, a good number of them wouldn't.

A 12 yr old capable of getting an erection, which is all that's technically needed for sex. For girls though, the vagina usually isn't developed enough to easily handle an "adult size" penis until 13-15 (depending).

driving: no age requirement, but heavy testing and reasonable physical/mental requirements

smoking: 80 (can't take 10 years off your life when you have -5 left!)

light drinking: 12 (this is so that alcohol isn't such a "forbidden fruit" for teens)

drinking: 16 for girls, 19 for boys (the normal ages when the body has stopped growing, IIRC)

smoking weed: 65 (might as well enjoy the last few years of your life)

having sex: illegal unless it is with me

DRIVING: 18. I see too many arses speeding around at too young an age. I'm gonna be 18 myself.
SMOKING: 21. Ugh. I detest this.
LIGHT DRINKING: Eh, 12 years old. For all the crud said above.
DRINKING: Dont' the British do it at 16? Let it be here.
SMOKING WEED: Legal. Let them get drugged up on one of the less dangerous drugs.
HAVING SEX: Umm....*trails off*

driving: hmm... This one's really hard for me. I'll go with 18.
smoking: any
drinking: any
smoking weed: any
having sex: 18 or ok if the age difference is less than 2 years I guess.
