I paid an arm and a leg to my budy at Rome to wage war againts Memeh and Asoka, Julius accepted and I did not hear the war declaration, no war status was displayed on the right bottom corner, and no war displayed on the diplo screen.
My only explanation is that Julius was fighting Memeh a couple of turns ago and he may be within the 10-turn peace treaty.
This would be too much to keep track of. The game should not allow the option of "Declare war on" within the 10-turn peace period.
As you can see, I was pissed off after paying too much for nothing, nada....
(I reload immediately -- I usually save before making BIG decisions).

Have you had/seen something similar?

You cannot ask someone to attack if they have a peace treaty in effect. Are you sure you didnt ask him to stop trading with the by mistake. (ive done that before)

Yes, I screwed up myself one microsecond after hitting the 'make deal'. I instantly knew that war could not possible be declared because of the their recent peace treaty.
I consider this a bug, the game should not allow me to bait someone to go to war when that AI is with a peace treaty with the target.
The same way, I can not declare to an enemy with who I signed a 10-turn peace treaty.
Thanks for your quick response, I now know that I am not the only one making that mistake...

No, this isn't correct. At least not in Warlords. I'm 99.99972% sure that in the 2.08 Warlords patch you can't bribe an AI to attack another if they are within the 10-turn peace treaty.
