AI used a catapult offensively...wow!!

Could it be!?

Today i witnessed the Germans using a catapult, protected by a spearman, in an offensive manner against me!! I.e. not when based in a city. Tehy just fortified them 2 squares away from me and bombarded away to their heart's content. By the way i have all my land artillery set to have a range of 2!

The good thing was it was very effective at pissing me off,

Hopefully this occurence is a sign of good things to come since patch 1.17f came out!?

Anyone else seen other such things?

I've seen the enemy use artillery offensively a few times.

Yeah I've seen this too (both pre and post-patch). It's kind of like fortresses... people say that they hardly ever see the AI civs build them. In most of my games I see them built at choke-points, on resources, and especially at colonies.

I've never seen that Though I usually fight a very offensive war where the AI is smart enough to build spearmen instead to try and halt my raging hoardes
