I seem to recall something very important this Saturday........ oh, yes - Newcastle beat the Mancy scum 4-3!! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <br />Here's what our manager (and new patron saint of the entire North) said about it:

"It was an absolute belter of a game. It had everything, really.

"What do you need in a match? You need spills and thrills and goals at both ends, and the game was on a knife edge. It was such a remarkable game.

"They do come along every now and then - the more times the better, of course.

"When you see a Premiership game of football like that it can be the best view you can ever have of a game, and both sets of players deserve praise."

"That game was a dazzler for sure. You saw the spirit and motivation of the club today. They had chances and we had chances. It could have ended 6-6.

'The key was not being afraid of them. We said before the game we could win and we believed in ourselves. At 3-3 it was two very good teams at each other's throats."

If you keep at them than they are as fallible as <br />every other team. Let's hope that the rest of the Premiership can follow the example of Newcastle and Fulham and give Ferguson a final season to remember! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[LOL]" />

Yesterday the first leg of Polonia Warsaw - FC Twente (1-2), FC Utrecht - Grazer AK (3-0) and Ajax - Apollon Limassol (2-0) were played. Last week tuesday Roda JC already played against some club from Iceland (3-0)

Ajax played very disappointing, after a quick goal in the 4th minute by Zlatan, it took them 54 minutes to score another one! We had a bet at school, and I with my 6-0 had predicted the lowest endscore of all! Others said 7-1, 8-0 and 8-1!
And I cn tell just why this happened, Ajax played too slow. Even against these guys they played 5-3-2. That ain't normal! When they play against tough opponents like Feyenoord, PSV or Celtic, or against strong European opponents I can understand, but this just makes me mad........

Next match home against Sparta, hopefully that will be a win of 3-0 at least......

Ajax won it's 1000th game since it became a club for professionals in 1956! The goals were scored by Van der Vaart and Mide (2x). The 3-0 against Sparta was also enough to become the number 1 in the Dutch Eredivisie! The three biggest clubs of Holland:

Yesterday was the 2nd leg of the 1st round of the UEFA-cup. After the 2-0 win in Amsterdam, Ajax won 3-0 in Nicosia (where they played). Goals came from Rafael van der Vaart (this guy keeps scoring) and again Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It was a much better match than the one last week, but still not spectacular. Today we know who the next opponent will be.

De rest of the Dutch teams are going on to the 2nd round as well, Twente won 2-0, Roda JC 3-1 and FC Utrecht played 3-3 against Grazer AK. After 45 minutes, Grazer AK lead 3-0 (and with that the 3-0 win of Utrecht in Utrecht was undone) but they managed to score 3 more goals in the second half.

Just hope Ajax have to play Ipswich...that would be so funny, especially if Ipswich win. Ipswich have to helsingborg in the next match...Eventually Man UTD will start winning...

This is the 5th win of Ajax in the competition (6th game) and the 8th win in total (in 10 games). Ajax is still #1 of the league, and both Feyenoord and PSV didn't win. PSV lost 2-0 at home against Vitesse, and Feyenoord played 0-0 against FC Den Bosch.

This was PSV's 4th loss this season, and they have the most goals against of the ENTIRE league! They really suck, only on European level they can win, so it seems. Id on't mind though....

Well, if they're second it doesn't matter, and besides, Man UTD still has scored more goals for than gotten against. PSV scored 10 and got 15 goals against them, and PSV is 14th!

A few days after the first game of Ajax-supertalent Rafael van der Vaart in the national football squad, Ajax had to play the home match against N.E.C. from Nijmegen. Ajax ruled the entire game, and after 30 minutes it lead with 4-0 already. Goals were scored by defender Chivu (penalty), Wamberto, Rafael van der Vaart (his 6th in 7 games!) and again Wamberto. Wamberto's second goal was scored after a beautiful action of goalie Fred Grim. He intercepted the ball from a striker, went on running, misled a midfielder and passed all the way to Wamberto, who scored the 4-0. The 5-0 came in the second half, a penalty scored by the Greek striker Nikos Machlas.

What about all the other results? Did PSV play and did they win? I know that the Dutch league has a weird fixture list with about half the matches being played at different times...

Once again Ajax proved its quality. Van der Vaart, the fresh 18-year old international who seems to have taken a leader-role in the team, opened the score in the 13th minute with a beatiful shot in the crossing. It took Ajax 'till the 86st minute to score the 0-2 (by defender Mitchel Piqué). It was a pretty good match, and RKC really tried to make at least one goal, but a strong defence and goalie Fred Grim saved the day.

PSV played against the number 18 (last) two days ago and won 0-1, which is there 3rd win after 4 defeats and 2 draws. PSV is now 9th, but today there are several more games, which means they could fall back to the 14th place.
Indeed the Dutch fixture is weird, normally the matches are played Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Or tuesday and wednesday. But because of Championsleague, UEFA-cup, WC Qualification and that kinda stuff, they have to move some matches to two days later.

Manchester United won yesterday against Sunderland. It was pretty decisive with Man UTD leaded 3-0 until Sunderland got a consolation goal (Philips). This was a good result because it was away and it was technically the reserve team.

Man UTD are third in the league, equal with arsenal and one point behind the leaders, Leeds. Oh and we are still ahead of Newcastle

Dell, thanks for thrashing Sunderland for us .

But this is all pointless guff when we consider that Gerard Houllier was taken to hospital mid-way through the second half of Liverpool's game against Leeds. He had open-heart surgery that night and is in a stable condition in hospital. Football lovers everywhere should be ashamed of some of the Leeds fans who greeted the news with cheers when I watched the match. Such insensitivity is by no means universal here and I would cast a massive slur on the whole region were I even to hint at such a thing, but this coupled with the racist chanting in every pub for every international game has put me off Leeds United entirely. Full marks to their manager David O'Leary then for visiting Houllier in hospital and restoring my faith in his team. Setting such an example to the fans should be applauded, although whether any will follow it and change their attitudes towards others remains to be seen.

Ajax just played a disapointing 0-0 draw in the first leg of the second round of the UEFA-cup against FC Copenhagen. Ajax was the better team, but they're only goal didn't count because the referee thought it was offside. Too bad, but I'm sure Ajax will win the home match, and go to the 3rd round.

Willem, what do you think about the sacking of Ajax's coach? Are you shocked or not? After all, they had a pretty bad run of results recently. Shame though.
