Still in the top 200!!
Both of these rely on cringemaking characters for their humour and I love them both but I was a bit disappointed by the new Alan Partridge series (admittedly only one episode old), the only good lines being -

(To Lynn) - "technically, your life is not worth insuring"

(To old school rival) "that means my girlfriend is....14 years younger than me - back of the net!"

(to no one in particular after pleasing bit of news) - "cash back!"

So, on the whole my monday nights are not as well served comedy wise as they were previously. Anyway - what do you reckon?

Well I didn't watch it on Monday so I cannot contribute. The Office is very funny though so its probably better.

I like the monday night schedule. Dead Ringers is okay but on occasions can be hilarous (the bit in the pilot about the Gladiator guy calling claims direct was the funniest thing on television last year). TLC is bizarre and I like bizarre. And Alan Partridge isn't the same as before but that doesn't mean it is worse, only different. I admit though The Office is better than all of them but as usual with British shows they only make ten a series which sucks.

The bit I liked in Alan Partridge was when he was threatening the guy with a molten hot apple pie and when he said 'back on the net'. Also in the new one when he booked a room with the name 'real IRA' and the police were in there waiting for him.

The first TLC episode was alot funnier than the second so I'm abit worried about the trend continuing... I've still only seen half of dead ringers but it was still quite good.

TLC was a very funny first episode but the office was hilarious they better be making another series

TLC wasn't bad.
I didn't see any of second series of The Office.
I saw only the first episode of Alan Partridge - I thought it was quite good.
I love Dead Ringers on the radio, and it's pretty good on TV, too.

The Office - best bit of the second series (apart from the emu bit) was the bit where he does the dancing to try and get one up on his boss (imagine what a laugh that was choreographing it)

TLC - wasn't sure about this - only saw a bit of the first episode and it seems sort of OK. Would like to see a bit more before making my mind up.

Dead Ringers - I'm SO annoyed that I missed this - I was desperate to see the David Dickinson impression I had seen in the trailers - was it any good?

Alan Partridge - when he was throwing up and saying "I sound a bit like the Devil dont I?" and when his girlfriend said "I love you Alan" and he shouts back as he leaves the room "thanks very much!"

Anyway - mondays is pretty good now - better than fridays used to be

I enjoy both but think The Office just shades it. Found this pic that fits the series fairly well.

Thursday 10:30pm, ITV1. It is basically Harry making fun of the previous week's television, very funny.

TERRIBLE NEWS!!

The Universal Television Group is negotiating with the BBC to bring the workplace farce "The Office" to America. I am pretty sure that they aren't going to show the British version but are going to remake it, like they have done to "Coupling" and "The Kumars at No. 42". My guess is that they will completely change it to suit American tastes and I reckon they will start by adding a laughter track.

They remade the Kumars at No 42??

I heard they tried to remake Faulty Towers once and it was crap (unsurprisingly). I dont think American comedies manage the weird characters things as well as Britain does - Seinfeld being the only exception.

Apparently instead of being an English-Indian family they are now an Mexican-American family.

I saw that once and yes it was crap. If it wasn't for the laughter track I wouldn't have known that I was watching a comedy.

Well we are famous for being eccentric.

Although I appreciate all the other comedies mentioned in this thread, I just dont get Harry Hill.
I must admit that his new series looks a little funny but the last effort was beyond me. I kept wondering if I was missing some subtle sub humour but no-one I know likes it so there no help

Harry Hill is very much like Monty Python. Either you get it or you don't. And if you don't get it then it is very likely that you never will. I know this from experience as my brother hates everything and anything Monty Python. And even after many years of trying to "educate" him that is still the case. But then again that is probably a good thing because from my experience the moment everyone finds something funny, it is no longer funny.

But I LOVE Monty Python. HH is nothing even remotely like!

They are very similar in the comedy spectrum (yes there is such a spectrum) but I meant it more in the if you don't get it then you think people who do should be locked up and have the key thrown away sense.
