Alexander - Biggest Warmonger?

Bezhukov, I've noticed that too, and would say it goes a bit beyond that. The aggressive AIs, Alexander in particular, seem to adopt the strategy of "throwing your weight around"; in all my games, Alexander is near the top of the power ratings, unless he gets screwed by the set up. This may be too speculative, but it sure seems Alex's game plan is to win by conquest, not space race, which is why he backstabs so much-- the goal is territory and population, and when it looks takable, he'll try. (This is in contrast to Isabella, where religion drives the wars.)
One things for sure . . whenever Greece is in the game, I keep an eye on them more than any other civ except the Aztecs. Napoleon may be more of the same, but he hasn't shown up in enough games for me to have a track record.

Well, I seems never have problem with Alex, he is predictable. Just make him one enamy and he will go after him all the time and you will be best buddies.

Mounty on other hand.... Actially Viky is backstaber of sort. I think she is sort of like I declare you first. I had one game be beating on Masta and eventialy got a city from him that bordered with Viky. I wa sort of cosy-neitral with her all game, but I had a stak in that city with purpouse to declare on Masta again soon. Out of Blue, Viky declared me and trow he huge stack agains my huge stack in that city. Personally I think Masta bribed her.

Did anyone mention the certifiably insane Isabella?

I tend to get on well with Alexander for much of the game, at least until relations deteriorate as I get closer to a victory in the later stages. Montezuma is by far the worst. If I see him, I utter a few choice words and begin to prepare for war. Napoleon is also an extremely annoying neighbor, but I usually try to put him in his place early so he doesn't get any bright ideas.

wow... i just had a game in which i was all friendly with isabella and one -4 (for the religion thing) and she just steam-rolled me... maybe there's more to that religion thing than i thought... hee hee... sigh...

Isabella is psycotic If you are a "heathen". she hates me before I even speak to her. Worse, I(f she founds budhism Then nearly every nation on earth will hate you also. Worse, If you decide to go the tech route and discover monothiesm(which means you are the ONLY one with judaism, not good). Things don't get fixed until free religion

I've been at war with Isabella in every game she's been in. Napoleon and Montezuma also declare every chance they get.

I actially start to like Issa in my games as a neybor.
She is very nice, she will spend half of game chasing religions and she is nice enogth to spread he state religion.
So, when she ask niselly to conver - agree and watch she conver your cities for you and cities of all other rivals. So, now you are palls with half of the word. At that time, because she spend all her resources on that she is small and week. Just come and take this holly cities. I did that my last game, got 3 holly cities. After I rebuild Budda shrine I had 36? gp turn, +200% from buildings. I spread others myself and they were just 20+ each.+100% from building. All together 5 Issa cities give me 200 gp/turn. Heh, they pay for all my empire!

Wow. maybe I should stop trying for my own religion If she's nearby.

On a new note, Is it just me, or is bismark an underhanded, backstabbing, dishonorable, selfconcerned, trigger happy, warmongering, friends with everyone but you, piece of ****. does it in every game I've played against him.

Isabella is quite a harmless angel on higher level while Alex, Ceasar, Cathy, Mao, Napoleon are all well known for backstabbing. But if you could manage to befriend with any of them, they will join you in every war you're involved and would even sacrifice their entire civs for your life. And never cover their back if you understand what i mean :-) In one of my recent games Mao declared on me and Cathy joined him. after a few turns, i signed Peace Treaty with Cathy, signed Open Border agreement the next turn and she joined me in the war against her former ally the very next turn :D

hello,

what is about playing maps where they simply can not afford enough units ? I like quick-game, islands, arid or damn cold and high sea level .. i assure you it is a VERY peaceful place :) except if I am deciding to build up a great armada.

Alex, I can deal with. Maintain a strong military, trade often, help him when he asks.

Monty can even be kept on his leash this way, sometimes.

Isabella, I can't figure out.

I got her all the way up to 'pleased', even had a defensive pact with her. But suddenly things just went downhill. In a matter of a dozen turns or so, she changed her religion, and was 'cautious' towards me. I made sure all her cities had my religion, always traded with her, (in fact always offered stuff to her first, and frequently just gave things to her if she would'nt, or could'nt trade for them), I always broke off deals with her 'enemies', and pretty much did just about everything, and anything she asked. The whole time the only negative marks I had with her were over our close borders...and that was, I think, -2.

At least in this game she received her comeuppance. After breaking the defensive pact with me, France declared on her. After a turn or two, France came to me, (who I was on very good terms with at the time), and I helped them wipe her off the map.
