I think alexander is really fun.

Many forget that the Phalanx beats an elephant handily and can stand up to knights. It is a UU with possibly the longest shelf life in the game, spanning three eras.

And that is the main thing about phalanx. Properly promoted they can handle both elephants and later knights who eat spears for breakfast. Dont forget hill bonus as well. Alex is my favorite at the moment as well. I remember the time when evryone tought he had the weakest trait combo!
