What stories do you have involving (possible) extra-terrestrials? Do you not have any? Do you know anyone else that does? Do you think people who believe they've encountered aliens are just plain wacko? How probable is it that aliens, at one time or another, visited Earth?

I've never encountered any sort of alien lifeform; never even had a dream about it. But I'm interested to hear y'all's stories.

Well, I think encountering aliens is a bit more interesting than a hypothetical war between ancient Mongolia and Byzantium. :p

@cgannon: By a sexy alien? :mischief: (And I'm assuming you really haven't seen aliens?)

more people belive that the Mongol, and Byzantine empires existed then people do aliens :p

aliens are real, but Roswell was a hoax. 99.9% of UFO sightings are either:
hoaxes
or
not aliens

Roswell has a lot more credibility than most people give it.

Those farmers knew wheather balloons. They actually got money by returning money. Then there's a guy who was a teacher at my high shool used digital image processing and reconstructed the words on a paper in a picture being held by an airforce officer at the sight.

The army's release about the body's being crash dummies means there were bodies. Those dummies weren't around for a decade after it happened.

I bet people who say they made crop cirlces are grossly exagerating or lying, and I'm not one to accuse people of lying.

I had no idea that aliens practice Catholicism. Boy those missionaries sure do get around!

i seriously doubt that aliens are here, if they do exist, they MAY have come ehre ocne or twice but alieninvasions etc are all crap, the area 51 stuff is almost certainly Special experimental stuff nothing E.T. (cloaking devices, anti gravity etc)

If aliens have been here, I believe they would treat us the same way we treat lesser species on Earth...like a Ranger does a deer...

i defintetly dont think aliens are invading! I just think they are around.

if that happened, I think the more fascinating event wouldn't be the aliens, but the quickness that humanity would unite.

Here is something that I posted once before in a similar thread:-

I am a very, very logical person, and have long been fascinated with this subject.
Here are my thoughts.....

Let us assume for the moment that UFO's are 'aliens'.
I can only logically think of three reasons of why they are visiting us:-
1) they want us to join some sort of 'Galactic Federation'....
2) they want to conquer us, because they want something from this world....
3) they are studying us, out of scientific curiosity.
Lets look at each reason, logically.

1).....We can’t even sort out our own problems down here, let alone join some ‘galactic community’!
We are just not advanced and stable enough, so this can’t be the reason.

2).....They must be far, far more technologically advanced than we are, and if they wanted to conquer us, they would have done so by now.
So this also cannot be the reason.

So this logically leaves us with reason number 3: they are studying us.

Now, we have the whole planet covered with radar and surveillance satellites, looking out for each other’s weapons and surprise attacks, so we should detect them.
But, as they are so advanced, they may have some sort of radar shield or ‘cloaking device’, rendering them invisible, like our relatively primitive stealth aircraft.

Logical conclusion = they are here to study us, and are so advanced that we can’t detect them.

So why oh why do they have big flashing red lights on their ships!?! :crazyeye:
(You don’t put bright flashing lights on a stealth aircraft!)

Final conclusion = they aren’t aliens! ;)

I've seen a crop circle once.

I also remember I saw some documentary about these crop circles. An investigator saw that there were dry earth lumbs which should've fallen apart when anyone made that circle, also because the straws were cut very low. I thought: "Ok, so you don't know how that's possible... Does that mean that an alien must have done that? I thought they were made just because they landed there?!" :crazyeye:

I used to think there were none around and never have been. Then I started thinking of the vast size of the universe, and now I think that's in almost a certainty that there is other intelligent live besides us. Then the question becomes 'have they been here, and have we actually seen any?'

Considering the massive amounts of sightings, I think that some people are telling the truth. But I do agree with Kryten - they would not have big flashing lights - unless they wanted us to see them...

I don't believe that any intelligent alien life is presently interacting with humanity.

If they were I think we would know, it's like a better mousetrap - if there really were one everyone would know, there wouldn't be anything to argue about.

If there are aliens, they do not have any real effect on the world so they may as well not exist. That is they do not provide us with any new information, or inform our decisions wrt the environment or politics. Same with the crop circles… they do not help us understand the nature of the universe. They get a big ‘so what’ from me.

The physical world is much stranger than anything humans have been able to imagine.

That said, I do think that the large number of people who claim to have been contacted by aliens is interesting in what it can tell us about humans, rather than what it can tell us about the physical world. I am interested in a general way about the power of group suggestion and trance states. I do not find it any stranger that people claim to talk to god, or that people fall into trance states and babble under the influence of religious rituals. I think these behaviors find their reality in the human mind and the influence of groups.
