All Nine Revealed?

I do want the Sioux, but them choosing the Pueblo first does give an indication for what Fireaxis was going for with the Native American tribes. Whether they decided to choose another tribe never represented (Shawnee) or include one that was (Sioux) is up in the air at this point. I also think the hatred for Sitting Bull in Civ IV wasn't the fact it was a Sioux leader, but for how all Native American tribes were represented in one civ called "Native America" - which was ludicrous.

Venice is about 99.99% in right now. Sioux aren't quite as much of a shoe-in; the kicker is that tomahawk unit. It must be in there for a reason, right?

It's a misconception that the Sioux didn't use tomahawks, probably perpetrated by the fact that their most familiar unit in Civ games has been a cavalry unit. But if the Sioux were to get two UUs a tomahawk unit wouldn't be wholly out of place.

I'd go for Pueblo, Seminole or Shawnee, personally. Or just have no Native American civ.

And yeah, Venice is basically in, IMO.

Really? I would've thought the misconception would be that they used them for scalping and thereby did use tomahawks.

Sioux, Shawnee, Powhatan, Seminole, etc. I'm holding my breath, for now.

I think Venice is in.

For the other, there's a part of me that is hoping for Native American. There's another part of me that hopes for something completely out of left field that no one speculates like the Omani Empire.

No "Favorite" Civ would get as much hate as they do and still crack below 50% in a poll like that, which is generous to them too because it includes what people expect rather than want.
The Sioux would be a massive dissapointment

I feel the same way, I expect them because they are very recognizable (in a very unfortunate cliche way), but I sincerely hope that they wont be in, specially considering we could have gotten the Pueblo. I think Shawnee would be just as recognizable to a US audience due to Tecumseh's War (US marketability being one of Sioux pros), and again if they wanted to add a plains tribe, there are better options IMHO.

Short-ish version: Venice as a city-state has seemingly been replaced, it's both European (they've said we'll get another Euro civ, and there are really few options left by now) and between Portugal and Zulu in the alphabet (according to the achievements database that's where the remaining two will fit), exact colors from Venice's flag on Wikipedia have been seen on a minimap belonging to an unknown civ, and a guy who knows what the civs are but isn't allowed to say it gave a hint about it being "most serene" (and Venice was a Most Serene Republic). Together, that's pretty strong evidence.

The majority of the fanbase will likely prefer something with which they are familiar. The Sioux fulfills that role. You can't say everyone voted for what they expected, rather than what they wanted, when the poll unhelpfully accepts either-or.

I have no affinity for the Sioux, I'm just saying that you can't pronounce with such absoluteness that they are far from a fan favourite when there is no evidence to indicate that this is true.

Saying they are a fan favourite based on that flawed evidence is equally presumptuous. They are a typical marmite civ, and not one of the more popular ones like the Zulu. That much we can say. They still have a significant following, but they seem to have a more significant anti-inclusion lobby than most civs too. :goodjob:

Yes it would, which is why I didn't make that presumption. I just stated that familiar civs are often popular, which means you can't rule out the popularity of the Sioux.

I've just got a feeling the "culturally European civ" is not Venice but the Scythian Empire. I realize I have nothing to base this on other then my own gut feeling but that is what I think will happen.

Native Civ : Shawnee> I love me some Allan Eckert novels

Dude, I'm thinking even thought it's basically total speculation, and considering the Sioux weren't listed or shown in the Civil War Scenario (which is a waste) I feel like they are still a shoe-in, just because they are an extremely sought after civ and thats kind of what this expansion has been all about.

There are a loooooooooooooot of sought after civs, that alone isn't a good enough reason for the Sioux.

That is in itself presumptuous. You are making a presumption. You can't rule out the popularity of the Sioux but neither can you prove it so it's an entirely moot point that you're dressing up.

For example, the Holy Roman Empire is a familiar civ, so is "The Native Americans".

Being familiar may be linked to popularity, but it is not an indicator of it.

Hope this clears up what i was trying to say :goodjob:

Why do people say that about Venice ? I missed something this week ....

1. Venice has been replaced as a city state by Riga
2. The colours of a new mystery civ and the colours on part of venices flag supposedly match (enter menzies)
3. A PCgamer reviewer told us we would have "all the most serene details" on the final 2 civs soon (venice being known as the most serene republic of venice)

Why does everyone think this? It's the perfect opportunity to include part of renaissance italy in a civ. It's not gunna be anything like Portugal. :goodjob:
