I just graduated and came back from vacation in Jordan, and can now do more than just read some parts of the forum (Dobby is free !!!!!!).
But damn, I spent so much time in my thésis just to see that basically, there are no news. I'm feeling a little disappointed
From what i know from eagle pursuit. Patches dont show up on steam depots.
But it could be a 5 dollar dlc like a new scenario or/and 1-2 new leaders that accompanies the patch like in the days before R&F.
Just my personal oppinion. I’m not that good at predicting stuff. I’ll lissen to the pro’s at civfanatics to understand what firaxis is up to.
Sunday steam updates does feel like the devs are working overtime to get their stuff done to announce something this or next week.
Its about 3 months since the minor summer patch.

Next expansion might be months away. We might not even get an announcement within 3-4 months. i’m more exited about how firaxis is going to fill the void till next expansion in short term. Like autumn/ winter patch. It would be interesting if 1-2 most asked systems get a good update. Like more immersive diplomacy, modding tools, turn times performance, attacking/defending AI or naval/air combat. Not really excited about more content do. It’s not what will make me pick up the game again.
If they fix England and or a few other things, I’d probably be back on board. But I’m not holding my breath for a patch to do all that.
Really, I’m just waiting to see if the next expansion (and related patches) have as big an impact on Civ vi as BNW seemed to have on Civ v. That’s a big ask. In particular, I think FXS would need to be willing to really revisit a few Civs and some mechanics from RnF for that to happen, and I’m not sure about that.
Still. Who knows what they’re working on. We’ll have to wait and see (of course).
The recent updates to 'smoke' and the 2kqa branches could be a patch. DepotTest is not a patch, and it's included in the branches being updated, but it could just be along for the ride while they're testing the patch.
DepotTest is identified as Windows OS and grouped with the depots for the Windows base game and DLC. The updates to the smoke, 2kqa_a, 2kqa_b, and pdreview branches involve these Windows depots.
Ltest, on the other hand, has no OS listed. It could be related to the recently released iPhone version and/or upcoming Switch release.
The mystery DLC is being tested on Smoke. If for some reason they were testing the Switch version via a Switch emulator on PC and distributing that to their qa people with Steam, it still wouldn't make sense because of the mystery DLC.
If this were just 2kqa builds, I would be leaning towards a patch with DLC. With Smoke in the mix, I don't know what to think at this point.
The mystery DLC could be a standard DLC (although the naming scheme is off). It could be an expansion. It could be more modding tools. Or some kind of bonus content. There are a lot of possibilities yet to be eliminated.

I'm trying to wrap my head around why there is no new DLC with a couple of leaders. I would have released one a few months back, then another midpoint between the release said DLC and the 2nd expansion. You have to assume they know their respective way regarding these matters, but I do wonder. Is it possible they have been duped by #FakeMarketResearch ?

Actually that's basically been discussed to death here in previous months. Basically, either they release DLCs that can only use base game mechanics, or they release DLCs that rely on DLCs and people will hate them for that.
I think they really do want the leaders mechanic to mainly be a tool for modding the game, allowing different leaders without needing a total rework of a civ, as often occurred in CiV.
Personally, I appreciate the desire for DLC leaders, but I also feel like the cost factor would be truly underwhelming. The amount of work for Firaxis to produce a new leader is barely less than that of a full civ, requiring a new leader model, mechanical balance, color scheme, etc. That said, it doesn't feel as satisfying a full civ. If you offered me Lincoln/Jefferson, Napolean/the Sun King, Hatshepsut/Akhenaten, etc. versus the Ottomans, the Inca, or Ethiopia I would vastly prefer the latter each time. And if one of each were released, I would be frustrated if they cost the same.

How hard could it actually be to program two variants? One for vanilla and the other for R&F? I bet it would still be profitable as well as keep people interested (which is also profitable).
'smoke' branch updated this morning. Interestingly, only the DepotTest depot was changed in this update.
I'm starting to think that maybe we will see a surprise small DLC very soon. Maybe for the two-year anniversary?
I'm thinking they would use the usual 2kqa branches to test the expansion, and that they would announce the expansion before they got to the point of testing on the weekend.

EDIT: Quite a bit of work. But I'd bet still profitable.
I would imagine creating one set of abilities, some of which would be meaningless and make the leader less than 100% competitive in vanilla has been determined as abusive?
