Nah, Disney already taught us that. Even wild men who are raised by gorillas on an island of the coast of Africa and are teased for being relatively hairless still wax their entire bodies and regularly shave their faces.
Well we don't know what all the leaders would look like with no top.
Civ 5 Gandhi probably convinced them to do it and then they managed to made him look even worse.
It would be pretty interesting if they worked in a "human rights violation" mechanic similar to the "warmongering" mechanic. That could go hand in hand when they (hopefully) introduce the United Nations and a diplomatic victory. In 6000 BC, enabling the slavery mechanic has no "human rights violation" penalty, but just like warmongering as they ages progress, the human rights violation will increase and increase to the point that it become egregious in the modern era and beyond.

It wouldn't need to be a whole mechanic if that's the way you wanted to go. Back in Alpha Centauri you could do some actions labeled "Atrocity" would basically give you negative modifiers.
Besides, enough with the new mechanics already. There are plenty the way it is and let's clean up the ones we have first.
I say it's pretty safe to say we'll at least get a new patch before the end of 2018. With the total silence and inactivity we have from Firaxis regarding Civ, I was doubting we would.
The last patch made the AI better at capturing cities, how about the next patch makes the AI put more effort into securing their win late game.
But ten years ago, it was completely fine to have Stalin or slavery in the game. Currently, that's not okay anymore, because slavery is bad and evil leaders are evil. How much longer until we can no longer have any 17th or 18th century European leader because they (indirectly) participated in slavery? How much longer until we cannot portray conquerors like Genghis Khan (still hated in Iran btw) or Napoleon anymore? How much longer until we cannot portray leaders who used force of arms at all anymore? How much longer until Gandhi - without nukes - is the only leader that is still fine?
History isn't neat, it's ugly. This is a game, not reality.
I'd actually like to see a system similar to a deck-building card game, where you "buy" policies to add to a pool; at set intervals, a handful those policies come back up, giving you bonuses of some sort.
The bonuses change based on eras, so if you bought Slavery in the Ancient Era then in the Information Era it rears its ugly head as revolts and unhappiness.
This would work well with a Good/Evil points system. Then you could have a UN mechanic that penalizes you for being Evil (or maybe for being good if everyone else is evil.)
Which is exactly my point. As political correctness gains power, it keeps expanding. This time there was one nation complaining. Next time, there might be three. Civ X might never exist, simply because it's considered wrong to depict real-life nations warring against one another.
And that's why we should draw the line at "games aren't reality, stop whining".
It's a special case with the Poundmaker Cree nation. They haven't seen themselves portrayed in a game before. They aren't used to it like an American/English/French/Russian/Chinese/Japanese/etc person would. I'll say that the headman had the right to express his negative opinion (no matter how incorrect he is about his ancestors abstaining from war) of the game, it's not like he's familiar with video games or Civ. He also said he wasn't contacted by Firaxis about this. But the Cree musicians (many related to Poundmaker) who helped Geoff Knorr with the Cree themes expressed positive opinions about their contribution to Civ.
I can't see the governments of countries like the USA, France, UK, etc complaining about their portrayal in Civ.
Ah yes... Better slowly prepare myself for becoming a self-proclaimed time counter and YouTube comment explorer. It will come, probably not now, but eventually, it will
The only important thing is to make the game better when you add something. If you can find a way where adding slavery will make the game better to play, more fun, I'll just gonna say: then, add it. But if it is add it, for... Add it, cause it is a part of humanity, it is just stupid and you should think a little to what a game is.
I agree! You shouldn't add a mechanic for the sake of adding it, that defeats the purpose of making a game that is supposed to sell and be played world-wide.
That said, by looking at how society worked in the past, you can recreate a fun history empire builder/simulator in the present day. Civ 6 *kinda* achieves this, but mostly through happenstance, rather than intelligent design.
I'm only 8 or 9 degrees of separation from Ed Beach, probably, and word down the pipeline is that it is more probable than not that we will definitely maybe possibly hear an announcement today, or at least an update to something in SteamDB.
