Even though I've vehemently defended the ST on these threads, I have to admit that the (mis)handling of Phasma in general, but even moreso in her relationship to Finn, was a YUGE per-peeve for me.

As I've said before...what I was really hoping for, was for her to return, sans-helmet, avec-scarred eye (in the spot where Finn broke her visor), with a cover-story that her cool armour was fireproof, with breathing apparatus and had somehow saved her from death in TLJ... alas... no such luck.

Would you say your expectations were subverted?

there never was any opposition to a "major" Black character , nor there could be. And nobody ever went to George Lucas and said "turn the gays over and we will them burn in fire" , because he wouldn't . Ignore this second idea , but the first is so true . No major opposition expected if the movie was succesful enough to cover its costs , thus making it possible for V and VI to exist . Like many risks , people might not care , people might laugh at the posters and go watch something else , no need for "the trouble" of some Black dude getting the Princess in White . It also meant the creation of Lando Carlissian , because there were some moments of making the Black Han more "princely" , the frog being a leader of frogs . Han we know ? He won't do capes ...

disney is indeed the company of Mary Sues . The newspaper says Rogue 1 on one channel and it isn't . Instead an Alice in wonderland type movie , in which it's 1874 and this girl is the captain of her father's ship as if she could and they are chased by pirates and she naturally gets away by risking a move the 2nd in command of the ship , male and older , says "impossible" and will "sink the ship" or whatever . And it doesn't because she is the smartest , also uses her sword to cut away a sail to save the ship and she doesn't know the meaning of the word impossible . How very likely . Poster knows Stuntwoman who punches harder than him .

yet VII would also have a female lead , even before Disney and there was even the possibility of making her an alien . Clone Wars movie time , will be animation , will it be TV , can it be a new triology ? It would only be fitting to get the Princess marry a Black guy even , Carrie Fisher as the mother-in-law by the end ? By the time Lucas sells to Disney , America has had a Black President and he has injected a feel good thing into the whole world and it's like isn't it time ?

Abrams doesn't give up , a defining thing about this New taking over the world is their belief that they are gods or something and everyone to tremble as there are no limits they can't go past , no rules they can't break .

the "triology" he wants to make (and he gets Johnson as a diversion , because the hate will be yuge when the fans discover they were cheated out of their silly childhood memories) is something like this . Evil aristocrat Ben Skywalker has gone Dark . Enter good commoner Rey , kid of unimportant people who won't even get a name in Visual Dictionaries . She has Force , after she was bitten by a radiactive space spider . Then Finn . Trooper trained in lightsaber combat , because have sex with the aristocrats , who are aristocrats and this whole stupid Jedi business . They are so much in love or whatever , Rey and Finn are but don't forget telegraphing it all along ... "Triology" , man , did you get the "joke" ? Collect all the applause in VII . Turn over the franchise to Johnson , let him carry out some heinous stuff in VIII and let the fans fall down on their knees to beg . Last movie , have Ben Skywalker dead , in 10 seconds , right after the opening crawl , because having sex (with the aristocrats and the whole jedi business) is what's this all about . Fans are stunned , fans are in disbelief . Time for fancy philosophy . On how Force corrupts and ultimate Force corrupts totally ! Have Rey go bad , let Finn discover love and love will find a way and love will conquer all . Have Rey dead , Finn on top of anything and how do fans like that ? Up them if they don't .

ı wrote this much by 22:00 on the 8th , closed the laptop and discovered Rogue One was there , after the Alice thing . Missed only the opening crawl and it really feels good to watch . Its director will knock wood for the rest of his life because he got to do it before Disney (really including Abrams as well) showed some true colours . No creative support ! Meaning only minor flaws . No SD in atmosphere , invent some new transport ship of large size and just a couple of touches here and there and will do in the 22nd Century : No Hyperspace tracking on Scariff type . And he will also know Disney takes Rouge as true Star Wars , because Abrams/Johnson took special measures to surprass it . Two on Eadu . Jyn Erso falls down by the backblast of Krennic's shuttle . Ben Skywalker holds his ground as Millenium Falcon roars away and that's actually a great scene and not just because he is one of those skywalker things . So much that the picture of the moment even appears in the visual dictionary . Space Ip Man (the space Kung Fu master from Jeddha) downs a TIE to knock out a flak turret to save many lives . While that's not a bow and arrow thing , the shestormtrooper , apparently named Jannah , bow and arrows a TIE to do something but ı wasn't watching . And obviously it's also inspired by the Marvel guy who used to hang around with Agent Romanoff and there's hardly any energy left to argue the latest TIE is heavily shielded , if you believe the visual dictionary ...

and the opening act of VIII , that might have saved one or two fans from dying as losers by making them give up Star Wars , the spacebombers . Because one of the Y-Wings drops ONE bomb on the shield gate ... Rouge One also does great things like ruining stuff . Stardestroyer design has had a devoted coterie of fans , who rose to prominence by conducting this online war against Trekkies by counting the number of guns and calculating total amount of energy . You know giga is bigger than mega and tera is bigger than giga ? Well, ı know peta is still bigger because a "true" stardestoyer or cruiser fires a barrage in the petaton range . ı expect if one was to fire on the moon , we would all die on earth ... Like how many Hiroshimas that makes ? Just as they expected , there was a whole new "murderwedge" for Disney's and fans were divided , some saying it lacked soul , others trying to embrace , because Star Wars fans are fools . Rouge One looks like it carries out the most slanderous attack on Stardestroyers and that's obviously why Disney let it be , when the Hammerhead pushes one into the other . Fans instead were happy when Darth Vader's showed what would happen if the symbol of the Empire was properly handled . (Because on Vader's ship you will probably die if you don't properly handle things .)


abrams still insists ... Remember him making SD , the back end and Millenium Falcon flying in , passive stuff ? When no one cares for his wedge , he brings back the classic formula . And hangs on one , of "that" things . In the visual dictionary it's hardly noticeable , but some picture in the past pages and it's ... small . You could handwave a whole wookipedia page on how the gun system increases volume to protect the machinery and the whole ship from overload perhaps . Though it's most definitely clear that it's vulnerable , actually the only vulnerable spot on the Sith destroyers and it has to be hit kicked and the whole ship will come down . Even the woman (who refuses to take Poe back) knocks one down ! Her reason to exist ? She refuses the former smuggler for he's not a man . So fitting for Harrison Ford returning , let me tell you people .

if Abrams had revitalized "My Schwarz, Your Schwarz" (you know the one where the Death Star is a gigantic robot maid with a vacuum cleaner) it would be so hilarious , but ı doubt it would ever make the 12th biggest opening week or whatever . Everybody loves them dollars . Makes it an absolute must to make SDs not so passive .

and the best coverup for all this ? US Civil Rights ... It can't be an accident that the staunchest supporter of the Disney's in this thread himself says he cares for the Black lead because he is also Black . Not speaking in his place , nor telling what he should think and how he should feel in a thread that would mostly agree that Disney Triology is cringeworthy . Black opinion leaders campaigned hard for Uhura to remain when the actress playing the role considered moving on and she wasn't being fired , nothing of that sort , because people simply loved a Black face on TV . ı don't think Martin Luther King would include the Disney Triology in his Dream ; am pretty sure the old Malcolm X would call for arms , because it would be proof that the only time a White would behave good to a Black would be when the Black was to serve the White's designs .

but then ı also know a few weird people , one of them in the US ages ago , supposedly for flight training and uses some qoute , apparently from Lincoln , to get himself labelled a Commie , during the height of this Race thing 60s or 70s and it being apparently a famous qoute , it supposedly makes into some high powered Hollywood production and American ancients trolled the guy for years . Always mind where you step , for you might slip kind of thing , but how would the guy know it would be in a movie ? Boyega could have fulfilled the destiny of Star Wars , what he ended up as is ... just a whatever .

A TIE fighter's total occupied volume is mostly empty space, though, so with its wide spread of laser-fire, an average XW pilot — i.e. me! — will still have difficulty hitting the TIE's superstructure from directly astern — to increase the hit-probability on the pilot-bubble, the XW crosshairs have to be aimed at the wing — but when a TIE is flying at >45° to an XW flightpath, they're so fast that the deflection needed for a successful hit is huge.

Rumors are that there is going to be an extended cut (like Endgame) of TROS released in theaters that will add some additional content, a 3+ hour Director's Cut available on the Blu-Ray release, & possibly more unfinished footage as part of the Disney+ release. If true, it seems like Disney is going to do whatever it takes to wring as much money out of this movie as possible.

• An extended version of The Rise of Skywalker will be announced in the coming week, releasing near the end of January, and including 3-5 additional sequences fit into the narrative. This should bring the cut up from 142 minutes to about 165 minutes.
• Rumored sequences to be included in this cut involve an extended Endor sequence that occurs before the final shot in the current film, Lobot and Lando in a sequence that predates the chase in the desert, and a slew of ghost Jedis returning alongside Luke and Leia and participating in the final sequence to unseat the Emperor.
• This new cut will be simply treated as an Extended Cut, and will include a post-credits sequence highlighting additional sequences that will be released with the official Blu Ray release of The Rise of Skywalker which will have a special J.J. Would you say your expectations were subverted?

In TLJ? Absolutely... That film blew my mind and I regard it as a absolute masterpiece. In TRoS?... Meh not so much... that film was more like the predictable comfort-food we got in TFA... satisfying, familiar and delicious... but no big surprises.

One thing I will add about the comfort food of TRoS versus TFA is that TFA got a much bigger pass for all the fanservice, remixing and rehash'ery for a few reasons. TFA had a true clean slate to start with in terms of characters, time, locations etc., whereas TRoS was tied down to what they had already set up in the first two ST movies. TFA also had a ton of goodwill going in, whereas TRoS was walking into a crapshow of venom, from a large portion of the fanbase. TFA also had low expectations going in because the most immediate competitors were the PT films, whereas TRoS was going against the excellent TFA, Rogue One and at least critically acclaimed TLJ. I guess Solo got a lukewarm reception but that is just one movie. My point is TRoS was sailing into the wind, whereas TFA had the wind at its back.
