Alpha testers needed for Steph's mod 2

I wonder if I should add the civilizations one by one, creating the page on the website for review of this specific civ, then add it, then move to next civ, or if I should create the pages of all the missing civs, just for planification purpose, so it can be review and translated sooner, and then add the units to the civ later.

Looking at your Italian unit list, I'd say you shouldn't put all those fantasy what-if modern Legionary units in. They just look wrong in your mod, since all other countries you've done yet are historical. Just imho.

Edit: Just read that you're missing some unit animations. Maybe you could better use "generic" units rather than fantasy ones?

If I put fantasy units that don't belong (and I think there are only 4 of them), I hope unit makers will find them so out of place they will feel compelled to make new ones.

The Arquebuse, the WWI infantry, the modern infantry and the roman grenadier are the only non historical unit I think

With generic units, perhaps they will just think it's not worth it ;)

oh yes , for italian grenadier 18th century, you can use a french soldier is similar (savoia -nizza-marsiglia) and so for ww1 , the french is blue , italians ugual but green

is you want!! :)

Steph, one recommendation I must make for you for your mod is that you should make some scenarios that put the world in the modern age. You have some great units for the modern age, but there's a huge chance that under normal conditions, 85% of your units will never get used.

It is something I had plan to do, but I want to finish the epic first, and then make the scenarios.

Because:
a) I don't want to spend time updating the scenarios while we tweak the epic game
b) For the ancient era, all the units exists, even if I still need to make them more flavourised. But for the modern era, there is for instance no aviation except for the civ which have been finished.

However, I agree that if someone is willing to help, and make some scenarios from my mod, it could be a good idea, but I don't have time to do both at the same time.

Italian flavour units added, a new update of the mod is available!

Due to the lack of translators, I've tried to translate myself as many unit names as possibles...

I'll update the names with the next civilization I'll do.

Speaking about it...

I've lost the tool I was using for converting units. So I won't finish the European civilizations as I had initially planned (it would require several conversions). So until I find the tool again, or I reprogram it, I'll move to a new continents...

I will now make the 3 Asian civilizations, starting with Japan. So Japanese translators, get ready!

As for Italy, I'll first make a "planning" step on the website, showing all the units I plan to use for Japan with a proposed name, and after feedback/ translation, I'll do the actual addition of the units.

My computer has been virus infected, do not download any file from the website until I can check it thoroughly. I'm not in position to remove them at the moment, they are the only copy of the mod I have left, my hard drive has been deleted

Steph, Its a big mod and im hoping you treat it like the origional Civ3.

Dont do what RAR did, plz add the sounds to all units. I dont even care if its all the same sounds.

Anyway, Godspeed :)

I would say RIse n Rule only missed out on a few out of 500. Thats not bad when you think they plugged in every added unit with historical backround that relates.
This got me more invloved in their work then say 1000 units you don't know came from where, or why, or how, or when or anything but a name and animation file.
You dig? Im not sayin this will be like that but the idea of many units packaged in the same pedia support as original format truly captures an Xpak feel...IMO

Steph Goodluck into the newyear man. btw I have virus now to. Its effecting my first hit on a google search. I have to backpeddle then rehit the target to get there. Completely annoying. My friend tried bit-torrenting a song for me and Wahlaa! Im screwd. Wow Gee, thanks bud! *boots from pad* :)

Why do you want me to screw the mod ;)?

I'm trying to add sounds to all units. The problem is the existing sounds do not always match the animations very well, and I have not the equipment nor the skill to create the missing sounds.

About the pedia, it's an enormous task!

So for the moment, I try to fill the "game effect" part, mostly to say things like

The M1A2 Abrams is the American flavour of the MBT
It has an A/D of 42/32 instead of 40/30, and a speed of 4 instead of 3 due to superior communication systems.

Then the link to the generic unit MBT will describe the common parts of the unit (like it has blitz, it's wheeled, etc).

So for each unit, I give the name, the link to the generic units (where the general inof can be found), and the specifities of the flavour units.

For the description part, I usually copy and paste some Wikipedia stuff....

So it is far from perfect. When all the civs are added, I plan to go back through the civpedia and to update the description with better and more consistent text.

However.... I'm feeling a bit alone on this mod!

If someone is interested to write civpedia stuff, I'd be happy to use it.
