Alternate Timeline Building Experiment, v1.0

And please feel free to complain/discuss anything. Educate me :)

Only a minor complaint, but hopefully you'll let my poor beleaguered peoples start recovering from the diseases soon. It'd very disappointing to have my cultures overrun by Europeans so easily just because it happened in the OTL.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In the Nayota Empire, the native Panto populations began to rebuild their shattered lives. They slowly emerged from the Nightmare of disease and civil war, but found the horrors replaced by the cruelty of their Aarut "allies". As the empire sent more and more "peacekeeping" forces to their colonies, it became clear that the native population was viewed as little more than slave labor. Rumors of Aarut incursions into distant southern lands taking men and women from their homes never to return abounded, and natives were forced to labor constructing garrisons and fortifications for their Aarut masters. A rebellious resentment of the European state boiled under the surface.

This was not all the trouble faced in the newly formed state. The Aarut colonists themselves were seen as second class citizens to their brethren across the sea, being taxed for the large military expenses and not given any say in the matter. This resentment of their imperialist motherland was seen by some natives as an opportunity- an opportunity which they seized.

A charismatic Panto man, Nanato the Great, led the natives and colonists in rising up in an attempt to overthrow the imperialist garrisons and the Aarut's puppet emperor. The Mantahu Republic in the west, weakened though it was, assisted in whatever way it could- including knowledge of a new kind of gun, the rifle, developed by the Lantan monks in the Xante States. They succeeded in overthrowing the garrisons and unifying the Eastern and western Panto peoples into the United Panto Republic. Although he had secured his people's independence from Europe for the time being, he was not satisfied to leave it at that. Having lived through the great plague and the "Great Nightmare", the Panto people were deeply mistrustful of the ancient established governmental systems that had failed to save them from disaster. So, Nanato did not seize control of his new empire as many expected, but he stunned the world in declaring that the nation would be ruled by the ordinary mass of the people. This state established a truly representative form of government not dominated by oligarchs and landowners, with checks in place to prevent the elected government from entrenching itself in power. Only time would tell if this new Republic could survive the ensuing Aarut retaliation...

In the Xante States, the Lantan faith was in a sharp decline. For the first time in history, their political leaders had more power than the High Priest. Although their traditions remained mostly unchanged, the church itself lost its ultimate authority and was diminished mostly to scientific pursuits and the maintenance of their ancient temples and monuments. The Xante kings themselves sent token support to help repel European imperialism (in the name of unity of the Lantan community), but spent this era mainly regrouping and rebuilding in the wake of the plagues.

The Antehauta Empire continued its efforts to regroup and modernize its military, fearing that they too might become targets of imperialist ambitions.

@Krimzon, yes you should have shared control over that!

The Lanverg have a major city in the frozen Scandinavian north?

@qoou, I'm not sure what you're seeing, maybe an artefact of the coastline looking like a city dot? There's not supposed to be any cities in the far north.

EDIT:

@Nick014, thanks very much! I take your point about the diseases. Though, I imagine there are still higher populations in the Americas than in OTL.

@Krimzon, yes you should have shared control over that!

Ah, I thought so. Superb update nonetheless Daft, about time I started making a bigger impact now ;)

Varakan Empire: After decades of reform and a sense of peace among the empire, a growing trend with the monarchy is to allow power in an elected council or otherwise gathering of various minds from across the empire. Forming a trust between the emperors and the people, allowing more freedom in exchange for a keeping down of rebellions. This time of enlightenment or as known to the people as the 'Akao Do', literally Good Times, brings about a new age of invention, spurring a boost in the arts and sciences. To help these prosperous times, the royal family will found or expand on learning institutions, making royal universities and offering education to the upper class.

We will send various diplomatic envoys across the globe, attempting to woo the Argine, Taretara and Yueren. Offer a reunifying of the empire and the absorption of the Katan's into a solid power state, letting the leaders of the Katans keep their powers over their regions in exchange for a unified empire and strong uniform military.

Jormarin Katan: Is to accept the reforms of Varaka and unify, setting an example among the other Katans.

Anukarac Kingdom: Split into 2 factions because of pressure from colonizers- those loyal to the kingdom, and those whose loyalty had been bought by the Aarut. Civil War ensues

EDIT: Also the city of Manaus (?) or whichever one is the major city gains a lot of power by selling war supplies to both sides (as it is neutral in this conflict), and is able to keep europeans from conquering the kingdom... for now

Tianshi culture, be mine again!!!11one~

Age of Enlightenment: A wave of nationalism shall hit the Tianshi culture. After many, many years of pathetic leaders, weak leadership, and overall mediocrity, the Tianshi cultures will receive a few people termed Divine Gifts from Heaven. These people would craft new ideas, ideologies, and ways to do things.

The Tiandishi Kingdom would see the most of these people, as if by divine interference.

"The Father of Modern Tiandishi." A brilliant scholar named Ying Yu penned a series of treatises on why he believed all of the Far East should be dominated by one people--these are the first arguments of romantic nationalism. Furthermore, he believes it is for those who follow Mingdebu.

"It is time to rise up and claim what is ours for us."

He was eventually invited to the court of the Tiandishi King and helped shape the thought of the time.

"The Great Compromiser." By this time, though, the Tiandishi Kingdom had rather diminished power. They were like OTL Greece--respected a bit as the birthplace of many ideas and culture, but still, pretty small and sort of insignificant.

Wang Dong looked to the north and saw the Yueren Alliances. They had been the birthplace of high culture, which had been borrowed and subsequently marred. They were a different peoples, all put together in one. And here in the Southeast, there were people who were far more similar. How could they work together?

The answer, he thought, was in their culture and history. They had banded together due to need. It was up to him, then, to create a need.

Wang Dong would work ceaselessly to help King Huangwin build a true Mingdebu Alliance as his Foreign Minister.

"The First Emperor." It's not as if King Huangwin really bought into this whole nationalism thing. But he was a shrewd man who realized that whatever galvanized the people together for his country would end up making his country better. This was the birth of realpolitik, or in this world, zhenzheng (real politics). He worked together with Wang Dong to coerce the nations that shared Tiandi culture into one.

"A New Strategy." A new idea of military thought had fomented for years and finally gained prominence. It was the idea that the Tiandishi had to avoid large, pitched battles in favor of smaller, harassing actions. It was essentially a war of attrition. Although seen by some as dishonorable, Huangwin thought that whatever worked, worked. Forays into neighboring countries that refused to submit were made...

Thanks! :)

@LightFang, extra thanks to you :D

---

@Everyone, I'm going away for a few days, starting tomorrow morning. I should be back Wednesday night. You have until then to send any orders or etc.

:salute:

Extra thanks? Why? Is China finally going to be unified? ;)

...I wanted for China to industrialize first here, but I can't really see how it could. I know the high level equilibrium trap was avoided, but there's just not a big domestic market. We do have work ethic on our side, but lack of raw materials and lack of stability is a problem...

:(

I also did my orders in a strange format. I don't know how it happened like that. :p

The Gaap culture should be in the unclaimed section, shouldn't it?

Sorry, but I don't think I can do long orders right now, and I only have 1 hour :(.

The Aarut Empire. Prince becomes king and is frustrated by the large power of nobles. Wants popular. Lets colonists do as they wish to natives. Annexes Nayota empire. Turns the empire into a moderate constitutional monarchy, with everyone (including colonies) having representation, but by population. Proclaims the Imperial Aarut Republic. People love him. (remember the bureaucracy last turn or turn before last? that might help here)
Keep expanding colonies. Huge privateer fleets keep other Europeans out.
Keep improving naval technology and bureaucracy.
Want to become part of the axis of learning. First Royal Aarut library epic fails as it's smaller than the libraries of even one of the little Amestrian states. But desire stays there, and they gradually start getting closer to their goal.

The Rosk kingdom. No more targets: watch out neighbors. Expands territory in Amestria with battle-hardened soldiers. Keep improving military technology.

The Thelsing kingdom. Cultural diffusion with the Gapvar starts a new culture-ish: a mix of Olan and Gaap. Old cultures still there (just not prominent along their border and such), and xenophobic purists pop up too, although the Rosk and Poneb want continued friendship and resolve these purists bilaterally.

Lanverg kingdom. Keep up the non-modernization and expanding along coasts. Make whaling big.

Poneb empire. Keep expanding to the east and such. When Marzhung collapses, join in and get huge swathes of land. Keep being adaptable

Leav kingdom. Get very friendly with Aarut, annex Geldut and become a regional power? Fight the Aestian spin-offs. Become an Olan-Amestrian cultural mix.

Nayota empire. Aarut soldier tasked with the Nayota's protection will obey Aarut orders about conquering the Nayota once the reformer king comes around.

The Great Varakan Empire:

daftsaltvarakangreatjy6.png

The Washagon Tribes will start migrating further east, in the hopes of finding more bountiful lands.

The Tagon Kingdoms will try to hold their fledgling nation together by attempting to ally with the Yanshi, and try to convince them to help them wipe out the "barbarians" to the south. If the Yanshi aid them in defeating their old rivals, they will be loyal to them, if they don't, then they will still suck up to them, trying to learn their secrets and technology.

The Laihuache Kingdom will try to mind their own business, and expand their kingdom southwards to the Manakee. However, if the Manakee should appear aggressive towards the Laihuache, then the Laihuache will not risk any assaults upon them, and invade the Manakee.

The Hachago Chiefdoms will start fighting amongst themselves, those with Washagon ancestry trying to take over the chiefdoms, starting a rebellion, and trying to re-connect with the Tagon or Laihuache.

The Nanhauk Chiefdoms will start sending in small raiding parties against the Aarut colonists.

The Asuat Tribes, in the west, will continue with what they've been doing over the centuries. Fishing and whaling and generally trying to survive. However, the Asuat tribes in Russia will begin to organize themselves better, try to absorb some of the other tribes in the area, and start to form a new nation. Their focus will still be on fishing and whaling, but with the introduction of some lesser tribes that live further south, and not along the ocean, they'll learn about hunting and possibly domesticate some sheep or goats or some such to help them survive better.

The Asuatis living in the Lanverg Kingdom will still continue to try as best as they can to take over the kingdom, and might even start a small scale rebellion if they are unable to get an Asuati as the king.

The Waeluta Tribes will continue what they've been doing over the years. Trying to survive.

The Waeluta Chiefdoms will continue to work along side their (Japanese) neighbors, but will still try their best to resist assimilation by them.

The Yanshi Colonies will send soldiers to help the Tagon Kingdom pacify the barbarians and regain some of their old lands.

(Colmassa culture)
Colmassa Kingdoms:
Continued growth south. Outlying regions are a mix or relations. Sometimes peaceful with neighbors, sometimes aggressive. Central rulers attempt to maintain friendly relations with neighbors, but warrior-based villages regularly raid their neighbors.

Amasa Empire (shared): Push towards eastern coast. Attempt to absorb Nalochialpa Kingdoms. Trade unruly-captured Nalochialpa peoples to Aarut colony if they will take them.

Matac Kingdom (shared): Attempt to peacefully trade with Colmassa Kingdoms and Hinchas States. Expansion is seen down river and towards esToca chiefdoms and tribes.

Holy war together Ninja Dude? ;)

The Emperor of All Marzhung is similarly offended :p

Could someone please do me a favour and run through the religions near me, preferably with an eye to most bloody...

Wainism and Shyinism are probably the most popular around your area if I remember correctly. The Guos up north have a significant Shyinist and Yuerenist populations. I'd say the most violent religion you could have in your nation would be Wainism, since Yuerenism and Shyinism are both very peaceful religions. Not that I'm saying that Wainism is not peaceful, i'm just saying it is not as peaceful as Shyinism or Yuerenism.

It was a map showing the former borders over the current ones. Holy war would be super fun, but it's the 19th century this update and it has no place.

Sarvonian Culture

Curias Kingdoms
Begin to share philosophies with Mutyl, developing a very progressive form of Wainism. As these ideas of individual freedom, democracy, and so on spread, Curias and Mutyl will come together. They may unite, and Curias will undergo a revolution, led by Murio Setvacco, becoming the first Furotoca (Democracy). The result of this will either be the Furotoca of Curias, or the United Furotoca of Mutyl.

Keyzad of Serezyl-Urgury
Fight with the Saratians for a port, gaining access to the Savisian Sea. When this is completed, we will begin to pacify. A philosophy of 'pan-Sarvonism', led by such figures as Resat Povolsky. will begin to develop in some circles, where the world should not be divided by nations or religions, but by genuine differences, such as ethnicity.

Keyzad of Nadzavosk
Engage in a royal marriage between Nadzavosk and Savisia. Nadzavosk will begin to develop a new military tactic, using highly-trained cavalry equipped with firearms, supported by large, firearm-wielding infantry forces. Led by the great general Dezov Taraskalic, Nadzavosk will fight against the Aestian States, until the Marzhung Ketada grows weak, at which point Nadzavosk will once again declare its independence. With its great architecture, monuments, Wainist fervor and powerful armies, nothing will stop us!

Variv Kingdoms
Ally with the Sezatians against the Marzhung Empire, seeking out enemies across the great nation's frontiers. Fight to expand our territory at their expense.

Sezat Kingdom
Fight against the Marzhung Ketada, and contact our distant cousins the Vonoth. Engage in much cultural exchange and trade, and begin to fight together against the Marzhung. At this time, Sezat will begin to develop a tradition of great architecture from Nadzavosk.

Vonoth Kingdoms
Befriend the Sezatians, and begin to expand against the Marzhung invaders. Vonoth and Sezat will grow closer together, to the point of near-unity around the end of this world. Pan-Sarvonian ideas, from faraway Serezyl-Urgury, will influence this.

Keyzad of Savisia
Involve ourselves in royal marriages with Nadzavosk, leading up to possible unity in the future between the Wainist Sarvonians.

Saratian Empire
Begin to deteriorate from a nation, to more of a trading organization. We will maintain ports under our control, and try to gain a powerful hold over trade in the Savisian Sea.

Holy Yansalan Empire
Continue to be a home of great ideas and inventions, spreading this out to our Wainist bretheren. The torch is beginning to be passed.

Garakal Kingdom
Maintain our great trading fleet, and begin to establish colonies and trading posts in Southeast Asia and Australasia.

Tezan Kingdom
Begin to fight against the Hulat Empire, seeking their lands for our own. Trade with their neighbours, and arm our ships to avoid raiders and enemy privateers.
