What do you think of using ....well, let's say unnatural ways of having a child? such as in vitro fertilization, surrogate mothers, embryo transplant, etc

Me, I think it's crap when there's so many children waiting to be adopted...why can't they just adopt one instead of adding to the overpopulzation problem

How is this unnatural?

Maybe they want their own children.

Because the urge to perpetuate your particular genetic code is very deeply wired into the human pysche. No matter how much you do for an adopted child, they will fundamentally never be your child, as they are not biologically related to you.

Well aimee, its not the same to adopt a kid as have your own child.

I dont know how to explain this really.. the same bond isnt there from the beginning, however it can grow into the same thing.

I think that surrogate mothers are a wonderful idea. You pay someone else to have your baby so that your partner can have a career.
But for all these methods, I think that the couple themselves should pay, not the NHS. It's not making you healthy to get your partner pregnant, and nor is it making your partner any healthier.

You can still have lots of sex, and not succeed in having a child and need IVF..

I couldnt adopt, i would need a child of my own

It does create market efficiencies, though we have a real problem with people violating the contract.

My general idea is that the whole "kid" thing, from pregnancy to raising them, is becoming increasingly at odds with the values of modern, mostly Western and mostly capitalistic societies. People basically want their cake and it eat too: being pregnant but not losing your job or losing time on your career path, raising kids but having a succesful professional life, having great schools and great teachers but not paying taxes, etc.

Either we completely revert our societies' values in order to better accomodate a traditional family model, or we adapt our biology, through technology, so that it's no longer a hindrance.

I favor the second option :)

drop the kid.
