Alternative Timeline Experiment

@Cobalt Command
I don't speak for Civver, but we seem to still be in our early stages at the moment.

Kratorun Orders:

  • 2 points on military for the purposes of imposing, interposing and generally abusing the hospitality of neighbors with the usual result -- conquest. The twist, will however, be that the Kratorun might become more active in prosecuting wars, moving away from the old dynamic of food-based conquest towards the more prosaic and far less interesting conquest-for-conquests-sake dynamic. The Al-La'l, sneaky gits that they are, will be the principal causes of this due to assumption of political power (detailed below) and their conscious formation of the Kratorun into a proper ethnically defined military elite. The Al-La'l will also work to ensure that the Kratorun hold their conquests and being well downright devious they will also profit handsomely from the whole matter.
  • 1 point on political change, as the Al-La'l take over temporal political control by turning themselves into a distinct religious and political caste (albeit not defined by ethnicity yet) through the assumption of control over Kratorun sacral practices -- including their sacrifices, blood drinking and other typically ancient manly stuff like rapine. The Al-La'l will steadily absorb some of the older La'l into their own numbers.
  • 1 point on economic transformation of the economy as all the new subject peoples and lands are incorporated into the state. Existing La'l will begin to adopt the practices of the newcomers and vice versa, depending on who the Kratorun end up conquering (remembering that wealth is like a red rag to a bull for them) these practices will disseminate inside the state. Eventually the older La'l groups will become wealthy and powerful and will ultimately be digested by the Al'La'l caste.

That was assumed.

I don't check this forum for a single day, and this is what I get; the exact kind of "NES" I'm interested in. Not too late to still sign up, right? When is the next update?
Nope, you're welcome to join. The update should be some time tonight if everyone has their orders done by then.

@Masada: So I presume you want to be more in the Mesopotamia region? IIRC the Medes were in Iran, and if you wanted to be there you would only get 2 points to start with.

@Nuclear kid: The amount of points you have is on the second post.

I should have spent more time looking at the map in the first place... just put me in the north of the Mesopotamian 'Grey Zone'.

Maarstai Spending
-1 point in Culture: to help create a more unified people with a greater sense of camaraderie to make our society more efficient
-1 point in Economy: to develop more effective methods of collective farming and better fishing

So my half half works, right?

Right now I'm not able to send orders, so update without me. I still reserve my spot, though.

1 point into economy, 1 point into military.

I would write something, but I wanna play Dragon Age. This seems like an appripriate place for a smiley, and as such, :D.

Do we have orders from everyone?

Everything okay?
Spoiler :
Name: Tuomalikani
Location: Along the coast at the mouth of the same river Banjarmasin is along.

Urban Center South-west of Banjarmasin.

Color: Cobalt, if possible, otherwise anything will do.

Culture: Believing in a balance between warfare and religion, the Tuomalikani have formed a caste system based around their beliefs. These castes take six different forms: the Makaan-The working class, basically anyone who performs menial jobs such as farming or craft; the Tuomak-The religious class, and as a whole equal in “political power” to the Ulitaari; the Ulitaari-The royal blood class, the leaders of any tribe, the Kaneye is the highest among them and has the final decision “politically” when dealing with the Tuomak; the Nyritoria-The warrior class, these warriors are trained from birth after having been selected by the Tuomak given signs from the gods, and answer directly to the Ulitaari(namely the Kaneye); the Mao-Those members of Tuomalikani who have a separate culture, or anything of the sort and have been conquered of captured(basically the slave caste). The Tuomak and Ulitaari are said to be links to the spiritual realm itself. Where the Ulitaari are thought of as the embodiment of the Yansla(gods) in human form and descended from the chief-god Klictaa, the Tuomak are those born of human blood chosen by the gods to communicate between the two realms; Ulitaari are thought of as the spiritual worlds authority, while the Tuomak are thought of as the voice and ears of the spiritual world. The spiritual world is something elusive, all that is truly believed is that it penetrates all living things, and everything has a representative on the Council of Heaven, presided over by the original creator Klictaa. More will be explained in stories and such.

Political System: There are various tribes throughout the southern portion of the island, each one being ruled over by a Kaneye and his family of Ulitaari, and the high Tuomak. The ruling of the tribe is, de jur, a collaborated effort of both the Ulitaari and Tuomak castes over the simple unblessed subjects. De facto, tribes can be successfully ruled in the de jur manner, but mostly are subject to internal power struggles between the two castes; the Ulitaari often gaining the support of the Nyritoria, and the Tuomak often having the support of the Makaan. The Ulitaari oversee the running of the tribe according to needs and wants, the Tuomak oversee the running of the tribe according to religious doctrine. In times of great need, such as a massive migration invasion or natural disaster, Kaneye and high priest may choose to hold or attend a Hamssa; a meeting of known Tuomalikani tribe and religious leaders to collaborate on deciding the best coarse of action for the tribes as a whole.

Other: While Tuomalikani tribes are quite militaristic, it is rare for them to war with one another, instead choosing to point their aggression towards peoples of alien culture; so as to increase the Mao and keep the amount of expendable labor up.

Do we have orders from everyone?
Nope, we're missing three still(not counting Flavius). I've started updating those who have sent orders. Since you're all so far away from each other and don't really effect each other yet that should be fine.

Sounds great.

Looks good. Might be nice if you could space out the different sections of the form to make it easier to read.

Also feel free to do your orders. You should have 2 points if I got your location correct(Indonesia?).

@Solanaar: Would be nice if you could specify how you want your culture to develop within those categories. Thanks.

Plagerized orders. Yes I am that lazy.
1 on Political, for my government system
1 on Economy, expanding markets and river trade and farmlands and whatnot
2 on Military, to exterminate the surrounding tribes with great prejudice
-1 point in Culture: to help create a more unified people with a greater sense of camaraderie to make our society more efficient

You guys are relying too much on military expansion when 90%+ of you haven't even reached your Bronze Age yet. Just a warning.

1 Point on Influence- Spreading religious and political ideals.

1 Point on Culture- "Advertising" and enforcing the Tuomalikani culture to those our influence has spread.

Sorry, I had assumed in a lapse of thought that the bold text would copy; it's fixed now. Yes, my culture is based in southern Borneo.

To clarify, mine isn't really for expansion but for defense of our territory from roaming nomads who see us as easy targets to raid for food, since they don't have as good of agricultural skills as we do.
Yeah you're fine.

Anyways I have everyone who sent orders results in, I just need to update the map to reflect that, update the stats accordingly, and then write up the actual update. If you want to know ahead of time how your culture did you can just ask me on AIM I guess, but otherwise the update will be sometime tomorrow.

Conquest is secondary to the political and economic changes I'm making. I didn't depict the initial conquest as being slap-shod and completely lacking in a discernible plan for no apparent reason. The plan is being developed as we speak but not by my cultures namesakes. If I'm fine please disregard. :D
