You must have quite a lot of time on your hands to write all those reviews but indeed there are good ones among them. :) I once wrote a little review on a book by Stephen King basically writing that all of his books are crap. I just wanted to know what the response would be. There must have been a lot of King-fans out there: 0 out 36 found your review helpfull....

This was the review I submitted of Vels smac-x guide at another site:

"I got the smax guide by Velocyrix and now the BABES are all over me. I having so much sex now I hardly have time to work. Every time I read a new chapter, I get a couple of new super models or other hot babes. All this and I have not even read the chapter on fusion powered implant enhancement or quantum powered sex toys yet."

But they did not post it at his online retailer. I previewed it to Vel at Poly and he laughed coffee all over his keyboard. All the Poly smac-x misantrhopes imediately ordered a copy.

Frankly, the supposed "value-add" of those reviews is zero. I find the reviews fall into one of two categories: kiss-ass reviews that are obviously by friends of the author or worshippers of that author's beliefs, or nasty bitter reviews from people with an axe to grind. Hardly useful. So the spam probably did Amazon some good.

Granted, I only buy non-fiction from Amazon, but I would be surprised if it wasn't that way for fiction.

This was another person's review of one of my professions staple textbooks:

Perry has outdone himself once again. The seventh edition is even more of a show-stopper than the previous editions. I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting, unable to put it down for a moment, not even to relieve myself! The molecular weights were so accurate and the heats of reaction made my spine tingle. Once I reached the section discussing distillation and tray efficiencies I new I was hooked. I won't give away the ending but it's definitely a shocker. Bravo to Mr. Perry's and I am counting the days to the release of your 9th edition!
