Because succession would cause millions of deaths, massive instability, and other horrible consequences. Yes the assassination was awful but not only id he survive, but he was actually better afterwards. Also, radicals did it because they were going to be oppressed by an unconstitutional bill. Communists are not going to imprison capitalists.

I am not condoning killing many American citizens, but if Wilson was killed, that would have caused gargantuan instability in the US, and possibly some large nations seeing that we were weak, and then they would try to attack us to take our land, causing even more deaths.

And also, if we do start a civil war, I'd doubt that not a single capitalist would be arrested.
