an interesting idea...

well, sever space seems to be a ever vansihing comodity now-a-days, and according to recent documents released by the TF administration, over 60% of current server space is taken up by pictures...

I have a suggestion-

whell, we all know about the many funny pictures threads in the humor section- and i think we all know that a GREAT deal of the studd in there is just posted, and re-posted in every incarnation of the topic.

solution- it shoul d be a project to go through, and organize all the Funney Pic threads, so thata sticky library of them can be formed, aonce a one of every pic has been secured in this thread, the others can be deleted- whne a newer funney pic thread ends, it is searched for origional stuff, that stuff added to the sticky collection, and the thread deleted.

to be fair, the poster dose indeed get credit for being the first to post a pic.

peharps similer could be organized witht he babe threads, but I doubt it...

Many are linked from other sites, so don't take up server space at all.

Maybe we should just encourage people to link rather than copy.... (although some sites don't allow linking). Or peopel could link from their own sites...

Well, it will either be attached, or uploaded, if it's not it will link to an offsite url.

Of course, we could always just repost the link to offsites.

in any event, a sticky funney pic thread would be cool... and perhaps finally alevated the 'old pic' disese which stalks those threads...

and thanks, I'm glad you guys like it- other people have liked other avatars, aand i've gotten a PM which, amoung other things commented an older avatar being preferred... one day I guess I'll have to open up one of those avatar votes in OT, like perfection or willj- but not for a while yet, this is only my third...

but what do the mods think of my idea? has anything like this been considerd before?

Good idea. . . best way to get it done - volunteer to do it yourself. Careful, now. . .

As for telling if it's linked or not, you can right click on the image, and select properties. This will tell you the URL of the image, be it at poly or cfc, or where ever. And any post that says "Turner_727 has attached an image" will be stored on cfc's site.

to do it myself I'd have to ba a MOD - it would be a sticky, LOCKED thread, lest it become a spamfest of commentaries...

so sure, I'll do it, they just would have to make me a mod and do we really want that...

Not exactly true. You can compile the data, get it in one place, then post it has a thread. It's been done before. The FAQ thread in Civ3:GD started out this way, and also there's a thread in Civ3:Conquests that someone compiled all the info and CT/Padma stickied it. As for locking it, request that a mod do so.
