Asia does not have a real ancient swordsman replacement unit. Here is my consept art, it is based off the Japanese style from around 200bc to 500ad, but since Japanese armour was based off Chinese and Korean style it may also work for them as well

Utahjazz did a unit like that, but it's a bit more heavily armoured and looks more like the Heian period. I'd like to see an East Asian Ancient Swordsman as well

I hope your not talking about this
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=60275
which is obviously a sino swordsman from the medivil period,which I would also like remade, it was one of his first units a its a little choppy ^ ^;;
as for your Shang soldier have you see Utah's Shang soldier?
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62275
and lastly if you dont like or want a unit someone is requesting dont say it, it think its rude and also to post another unit request hmmm....anyways since your request was granted in 2001 lets work on mine ^o^///

@Shiro: Zulu wasn't being rude, he was actually seconding your request.

I'd like to second this request as well. I'm using the old ones Wangyushi and utahjazz posted for my scenario right now as substitutes. They're not bad units. They're just a bit choppy and I don't like the "yellow spandex" on the Chinese swordsman guy on utahjazz's unit. ;)

No, I was offended by zulu's astericks.. mine eyes..
Anyhoodley, I bazzillienth this request, although not neccessarily in its present form. I think it looks a little too japanese, and since its a generic asian soldier, it should be based on a chinese swordsman, as most ancient asian designs were of chinese origin. That way, it could pass off as korean, japanese, maybe mongolian, better.
Anyway, in a few weeks (after the semester gets out) lets all pester utahjazz to do it. He's show interest in making something(s?) from ancient asia, if he knows its something we can all use perhaps he'll be oblige us

well I actually need this for a scenerio I was making... <.< >.> and to complete the Japanese line...
but something like this with a sword would work for me too. blue and green would be civ colored. and with a helmet

That pretty much works for me, too. That's Chinese style armor, developed during the warring states period, so I guess most of asia wore the same get-up for a while.
For a sword, the straight jain would be best. That's something like the soldier in your original painting is holding.
Having the blue and green as civ-color would be too much color in my opinion. Keep in mind the Koreans are purple, and the japanese are orange in the epic game. That'd be too loud. I was thinking a small round shield with some civ color on it, and perhaps a civ-colored plume on his helmet.
Speaking of helmets, do you have any ideas for one?

(If someone could tell me how to post a image, I did a sketch of a asian sworsman for civ)

I dont want a shield. His helmet would be like the one at the top only with thread instead of feathers. how about the green and the red on the neck is civ colored and the blue is made lighter. I agree on the sword a straight double edged sword

these are 2 pictures I found one is an ancient Korean horseman the armour is something the Japanese copied, Just remove the horse and you have an ancient asian swordsman. and B is an ancient chinese swordsman, take away the shield and spear and give him a sword and you have an ancient asian swordsman. I colored them blue-purple to show the civ colors

I'd like to see someone make a Chinese swordsman unit wield a dao. Then I can finally have that Zhanmadao Swordsman I've been requesting for the past year. :p The dao (sometimes called the "marshall of weapons") is a single-edged broadsword. Modern daos are broad and bulky (primarily just for show in kung-fu exhibitions), but classical ones are almost katana-like.

I think Kinboat made a unit that looks very much like the first picture.
