And Then Ninjas...Thousands of 'Em

I'm just looking forward to seeing the following message:

"Maxwell Smart (Great Spy) has been born in Washington."

"There are no holidays in the fight against evil." --Maxwell Smart

Now, I'm not arguing that a boost to production is a bad thing, especially for a warmonger, but what IS bad about the Shale Plant is that it is one of the few UB that do not match up with its Civ's UU. By the time you get Shale Plants, Samurai are long obsolete - there's no chance to do a powerful "double whammy" punch of both a UB and a UU at the same time. Very few Civs are stuck in such a situation, and usually the ones that are have a comparatively strong UB or UU to compensate. For example, the Americans get shopping malls fairly early on and navy seals much latter, but both are strong enough to stand alone. By comparison, both the Japanese UU and UB are "average" in power, so they seem fairly weak when you consider the fact that you will only be able to take advantage of one at a time. That's my theory, anywho.

Well, then you have the Celts that can build their UU in a city with their UB, and still get no benefits

LOL, it would be ridiculous if it appear messages about Great Spies being born!

We also have to realize, journalists these days are pretty stupid, generally uneducated in what they are writing, and pretty biased.

Trust them to tell us a new leader is tokugawa, Charlemagne lived in the Renaissance, etc etc.

I'm glad ninjas won't be the early spies simply because they were exclusively japanese and "spy missions" were no their major duties.

Mind you, this game is ALL about historical inaccuracy.

Example:
Stalin managed to build the Church of the Nativity and conquer the Inca in the same turn.

So forget the accuracy and unleash those Roman Ninjas on America.

Also, I know this topic was dropped, but:
Pirate ninjas would be ninjas who became pirates, aka seafaring ninjas.
Ninja pirates would be pirates who became ninjas, aka ninjas with eyepatches.

Actually, it depends on which species the mother is. Like a tigon, or a liger.

Pirate ninja ligers?

I'd switch to Slavery for that.

The question is, can you join multiple ninja units together to form a hedge?

John Shafer has already said that they are not ninjas.
Did anyone really expected spy units to be different than a black dressed man?

I don't understand what you're saying by that. There are a few really important ninjas in Japanese history namely Hattori Hanzo.

If you mean ninjas to be samurais who didn't follow the samurai code, then they did exist. They're not spies, just samurai who were tasked to do things that are forbidden by the code.

Ninjas would be great. I swear I am one of the people who wants realism but I understand what the game IS about.

 Nice 'Tick' reference.

"Really - we're a hedge."

I think that the best option would be:
- Assassin: Spyonage unit for the middle ages. Skills: poisoning water supplies, stealing gold, fomenting unhappiness
- Spy: Spyonage unit for the renaissance / early industrial era. Skills: Same as assassin plus blowing up terrain improvements and buildings and intel missions
- Secret agent: Spyonage unit for the modern era. Has every skill.
- Ninja: Unique unit for the Japanese. Replaces assassins & Spies. Has the same skills as a spy, but it can be obtained earlier.

I would still love ninjas in BtS...

And I will make the mod of nothing but pirate ninja liger turtles. Hope no one minds it uses the Final Frontier mod as a base...

Does BTS actually have an enhanced spy/espionage mechanic? I might change my mind about buying this. It would be fun to destroy an entire nation from the inside with spies/ninjas/secret agents etc. Sometimes the old war formula gets boring.
