Specially for Shanghai EXPO Tomasz Bagiński (Oscar-nominated for The Cathedral and winner of many other awards, for players may be known for cinematics he made for The Witcher game) created a 8 min. animated history of Poland. This is a short ~30 sec. trailer:

I can't wait to see whole movie.

By the way, I wonder who would be able to name what historic persons/events are shown here. Polish users - please don't help :D

EDIT:

Few minutes ago I found something different - a bit psychodelic clip made as a tribute to Stefan Starzyński - president of Warsaw in 1939 who led the defense of the city. As far as I believe the vioce heard in this clip is entirely his. English translation available in annotations, better seen on youtube page, not here.

I see the Kingdom of Poland c.AD1000, coronation of some king, the Mongols, the Partition, dramatic scene about how the partition caused parts of Poland to sink into hell, what I assume to be a Tsarist police raid on a Polish nationalist organization, Napoleonic Wars, Polish-Soviet War and the Battle of Warsaw, Second World War and subsequent liberation, modern prosperous Poland.

This psychodelic clip got some dark style I have to say.

To the actual movie: Do you want to see it to laugh about the desperate try of the Polish to glorify themselves? That's at least the best reason I can think of. But well, every nation has a right to some glorification IMO (though as said my first impression is that this movie will make use of that right a little too far-going).

This, sir, is the video you want:

My favorite part is the "conquerors of Berlin" caption...

EDIT: if you watch all the way until the end, there is some very strange stuff that only makes sense if you are a 1960's communist bureaucrat

Wow, it took only few hours to express something like this here :D Even I thought it will take you a bit longer.

But first let's clear something - are you referring to the first, or second movie? Because I see no "glorification" in any of them - it's just presenting our history to those who are unaware of it (and honestly - it's the vast majority of people even though I believe they think of themselves as "specialists" ;) ).

I love PRL's propaganda, have 4 DVD's about it. But I don't think it's thread about it.

Of course the first. The second got some cool scenes if one is into the dark flavor.
No glorification? Come one, just watch the very first scene. Some guy rams a stick into the ground, a big lightning sphere aroses and BAM! - Poland is born!
That is not exactly how nations arise.

But well, as you are Polish, I can understand why you are anxious to see it. I would be exited about a cool glorifying movie about German history as well.

There is a 10 hour pseudo-documantion of German history by the way :mischief:

It's just a nice concept for the beginning of the movie, nothing more. How should they show this? It's only an 8 minute video (not 10 hour ;) ) which have to contain last 1000 years. I prefer this scene than showing slow forming of the nation :D

Right now it's a bit unfair to call this movie in any way - it's just a trailer. I hope they'll release full version soon, and then we will be able to truly rate it.

Got a few laughs out of it :)

Awsome both movies. Great 3D graphics. I hope it'll make history of Poland more familliar to manypeoples.

I disagree. There is nothing wrong with telling the story of a nation, even if you just focus on their successes and vilify their historical enemies.

As long as they don't push the history too much.

In anycase, you cannot argue that Polish history, especially from the 1300-1650 made a very successful nation of itself.

Singapore has historical enemies?

Yes, everyone surrounding it.

Yes, everyone surrounding it.

Doesn't sound that much different from any other country.

Vilify at will then.

Would you say the same for Singapore? :mischief:

Yep. Of course, Singaporean History is so insignificant that it can be summed up with 5 words. "Britain, Japan, Malaysia, Independence, Lee"

Had a very Civ4 feel to it, but looks like it's lacking in cultural events. It makes it seem like Poland is one big eternal war.
