Ank06 - 3CC Conquest

Mobilization is a good idea. Can we run a mobilized economy long enough to make a difference before the devolution to Monarchy, or throw the switch right now, then mobililize?

I don't know how big difference it will make... I think Lugdunum will be able to produce 45 shields even without mobilization when it grows... at least in democracy. Dunno. And I actually doubt that it would be enough to make a difference in the other two cities, except if Alesia is too corrupt to make 30 spt in Monarchy...

But how to fight the war? Should I wait for the biggest stack to go away, then declare and wait for them to pour and die on our Great Wall of Gallia?

Bugsy's notion of a defensive war is sound, so we need the Arabs to be where we can mount an effective defense, in the west, or at least so far east we have a window to build defenses there as well.

Our initiatives westward should be confined to destroying the rail network allowing Abu to get reinforcemetns in place from his homeland.

I agree completely, defensive war. bombard like crazy. Mobilization also makes sense. I'd do it now.

Ok, so mobilize, wait for the troops to go somewhere, when they're there, start war and bombard like crazy and try to destroy the rail network at least so they need to have the troops in bombard for one or two turns.

Right?

Wish me luck... :)

1848AD [4]: Mobilize. Gah, Alesia is producing 41 uncorrupt shields. Well, no way to get over that...

Entremont makes 46, but 2 are corrypt so it's 44. Let's railroad a hill...

Lugdunum makes 66 uncorrupt shields, nice. Even more after it grows next turn. :)

IBT: Arabia and Carthage sign peace. Carthage is an OCC...

And looks like Arabia is attacking us. Oh dear. They pour troops into our lands. We can't possibly survive this.

Entremont inf > inf.
Lugdunum inf > inf.

1850AD [5]: Pillage a road. Build a fort on the Eastern mountains, railroad a hill near Entre but a second one is needed too, I think, to get 45spt.

Any ideas on what to do now? One who wants a nice warmongering set of turns may take it.

I've got the game, but this might take a while. Patience gents.

OK, this is now the only game on my plate. I just hit enter a couple of dozen times to await the vote in SGOTM2. Time for a real challenge.

Yeah. If yuo survive this, you'll deserve some sort of award. :D

Good luck. May the RNG be with you.

Looks like no one is interested in our game and joining it...:(

Playing now.

I mentioned earlier that I would play but did not get a response.

Oops, sorry about that. If you feel you can manage this challenge, you're in. :D

Playing Monarch is not a stretch. Making maximum use of 3 cities will be the challenge.

Variant: This is a 3 city challenge, meaning we may have only 3 (three) cities at the end of a turn. We are trying to get a conquest victory (kill all other civs).

Stats:

Civilization: Celts
Dificulty: Monarch
Map size: Standard
Land style: Pangaea
Other map settings: Random
Civ version: PTW 1.27f

We here we go. Wake up one infantryman. I think I will build a fort on our second iron and then kick Abu out. On second thought, I would like to get all the pink guys out of our lands. So I’ll close off the eastern mountains and hope they head elsewhere.

1852-1860 – Close off the eastern mountain range. Abu moves out.
1862 – Abu plants a city to our south.
Since this is playing very fast, I make a command decision, that I will complete these war preparations.

1862-1876 Secure our southern front.
1878 Use our artillery to pillage the roads on our front to the east. Arabs start Hoover Dam. And complete ToE. I think Abu is now in his Modern Clothes. Just great.
1880 – 1882 – Work on fortifying Southern salient.
1882 – Abu declares on Hannibal. Industrialization comes in. Corporation next. Entremont riots due to loss of a lux.
1884 – Hannibal is a settler in a boat.
1884-1890 Complete work on the salient. After 20 turns, I’ll stop and talk to the team.

That was essentially 20 turns of workers and positioning units. I’ll post some screen shots on how we should declare war. We are still very weak compared to the Arabs. And we are stretched very thin. I have a fairly detailed plan on how to do this. Stand by for the plan.

First let’s look at the east.

ANK_06_East.jpg

I have pillaged all of the roads leading into the valley and the mountains except on the south side. I’m hoping that this will act as a funnel which will in turn allow our artillery to bombard the Arabs before they can reach our units. Please note that we are extremely light on this front. Actually we are extremely light on all fronts, it’s just the worst here. I get the feeling this may be a bit like the Alamo. There are 1000 Arabs, and 88 Celts.

Here it will be very important to grab the red ‘X’. This will be one of the focal points to the Arab counter. So go with some strength. Additionally you will want to move troops into the abandoned forts before Abu’s goons can get them. (See red arrows)

We will want to bombard all along the yellow lines. This will create a killing zone.

ANK06_-_West.jpg

This will be the most difficult front. Once again we’ll need to move our troops into the abandoned forts. The white ‘X’ doesn’t have a fort on it, so along with the red ‘X’ at the southern corner of the salient, we’ll want to move our workers here to build a fort.

We will want to bombard all along the yellow lines to again create a killing zone. This will also funnel the Arabs into two locations, indicated by the pink circles.

We may want to consider a ROP to build forts on the two X’s and then declaring war. Keep building infantry and artillery.

I don’t know who wants to step into the shooting gallery first. I’ll be willing to do it. I just thought that I had already taken ten more turns than I was supposed to and I need to check in with the team.

I like the plan, as always, well done.

If jb wants to try his hand, welcome, otherwise, I could take a stab but not until tomorrow.

Baptism by fire. I have a feeling this one can easily become another Alamo. I think the way we need to approach this is with the Japanese adage, that you don't begin to live until you realize you are dead.

Let's assume we're going to lose. Fight like a mad dog. And pray to the RNG god. :worship:

Nice playing and planning. :goodjob:

Let's hope Abu's troops in the East are weak...

BTW, are Entremont and Lugdunum producing one inf/art in 2 turns both, or just lugdunum? Did you revolt to monarchy?

If we only got Refining so we could know where the ouil sources are and possibly be able to deny them from Abu. But I guess he hasn't got any... No MI's or MA's or tanks to be seen.

Let's hope we can make this.
