Ank07 - Plain Deity

Rik did a really good job stripping money and techs from the neighbors so there was no trade action in this set. Ragnar is getting ruicher and richer, probably by selling tech to the neightbors.

T1-5
1475-1350

Not much to report. Get a front row seat at Ottoman American war. Moving settlers west.

Ottoman and America sign peace.

T6 1325

Trekking settlers and moving workers from Medina.

T7 1300
Vikings start Great Library

T8 1275
There is iron in the west!!
Chinese start Great Libraay and obligingly bust a barbarian camp for us

T9 1250
Americans and Ottomans and and their brother start Great Library

Found Khrurasan on far side of landbridge.

T10 1225
Egyptians and Indians join in on the library building.

T11 1200
Not much to report.

There's a settler NW of Basra that can found right where he is, as it will bring game forest into play and leave room for fishing town to the north.

There are trades to be made for Polytheism, due in 1 and Map Making and Currency for Construction, Literature and others. Polytheism and Construction are all we need to move into the next Age. I would not make any deals with Ragnar, as he already has all the money he needs and is busy sailing the seas looking for targets of opportunity.

I'm not sure what to do about Medina, It is on the far side of Ragnar, but right now is helping with unit support. We might consider using it to build warriors if you want to build a barrakcs there, and just hope we can get them across Scandanavia, though swordsmen are going to be pretty obsolete soon.

We've got horses outside Baghda and iron outside Khurasan. a further look at the map suggest that we and the Vikings hold the most desirable territory on this rock. Everybody else is in the jungles or the mountains. We need more workers!! to take advantage of it though.

I've tried to keep Mecca on a warrior/settler cycle. Get another mine on those grasslands and it would be a warrior/settler spewing machine.

Sorry for the delay but the game crashed to the desktop and wouldn't restart. Had to reload the whole shootin' match.

Isn't it me up after Ankka, Bede?

Nice turns; it's good to know that we won't be battling this thing from a bad position after all.

Edit: Got my first look at the save. Looks like we have at least enough room for a couple more cities out west; hopefully it goes for a bit more than that, though. The only thing that I see needs changing is the the worker at Medina should be switched to a warrior with worker in queue, so we're not wasting 10 turns of production there.

And we are expansionist, are we not? So let's pop that hut since we can't get barbs. Also, luxury doesn't need to be at 30%. 20% will keep ppl happy and put 4gpt more in our pockets.

Okay, since I keep seeing more things after I re-edit (3rd edit now :lol: ), I'm gonna take a hard look at diplo, too.

Everybody except for India and Spain knows Poly, so that won't net us much. However, the next person up should look at trading with India right away, as they are the only AI we have a trade opportunity with. We can get Construction, Literature, WM and 4g for Map Making, WM, and 5gpt. Or we can wait a turn for Poly and hope to trade India Poly + Map Making for a better deal. After that Spain will let us buy their worker + WM for Lit, WM & 12g, so it looks like they're almost done researching that on their own anyway.

(Me posting what Spain would trade for Literature is kosher, right? I've seen it done for analysis in other SGs, but I am not entirely familiar on just what "looking ahead" constitutes, so if this isn't cool let me know cause I'm still a bit of an SG newbie.)

Oops, sorry pin.

Still can't play Ankka? Then I got it. Will play tomorrow or maybe tonight.

Edit: As far as trades go, I probably will do the trades I mentioned in my previous post. But I would appreciate other (better) people's input (better meaning anyone else here ;) ) on what they would do.

Our empire (sans Medina):

Any of the trading options you mentioned will work just fine, methinks.

If you can though try to trade so that we give cash and tech and get gpt. If Lit is too costly just skip it as it will only get cheaper next turn. I would guess that Construction for MapMaking straight up might not fly, but it should.

Poly and Construction put us in the next age and we can set up for better brokering opportunities then.

The iron is so very nice. I do hope there is more positive surprises along the landbridge. Too bad the Chinese got an archer there as well; but it is damaged. Can that mean barbs (bad) thus more land (good) ? I hope so.
I'm not so sure about all the workers; I set up Damascus as a worker-pump. If that pump starts pumping, we can let other cities grow and build other things. Protection for instance. If the Vikings attack now; we are dead. If we get some warrirors or spears, we have a fighting chance.

It may still be too early to think of this, but what about a wonder pre-build? Aside from Mecca, none of our other towns have good production -- yet, though that should change as the workers get going. Timing pre-builds for future wonders is not one of my strong suits, especially in Diety, but maybe a Sun-Tzu or Leo pre-build? What say other people?

No Wonder-prebuilds (yet). Going for Ancient-Wonders on Deity is a nearly impossible task. We'll have a huge chance of getting a very expensive marketplace for instance. We can't afford that.

Why build a Wonder with the cost equivalent to 15 swords, while it takes only 14 to capture it ?

Dear god, this has been a horrendous week for school! Every professor and their TA decided it was time to have projects and papers due for Friday. And since I work Thursday night graveyard I have until 9pm PST to get this done.

Today I spent the entire day at the library. From when I finished lunch until 9:30, and have all the research done for one paper, and the second written up. The third I will finish tonight shortly and the fourth will just have to be done tomorrow because I am sick and tired of school work!

So as for playing . . . I never was the best student. I think I deserve a little break from the studies, don't you? :D

Inherited Turn, 1200BC
First thing's first, and I set about making all the moves I mentioned before.
Medina switched from Worker to Warrior, Worker in queue.
Luxury dropped to 20%; income now 7gpt.
Trade India a little different: I give Currency + Map Making + WM and return with Construction + WM + 22g (full value). India will not even think about Map Making, so my guess is that they are close to finishing it themselves. And with Bede's advice, I did not want to put us in a gpt debt this early on.
Trade WM for China (equal value, oddly), which reveals a wheat for our next settler to take advantage of. But not much else over there looks green, so far.
Trading around maps increases our coffers by 23g.
MM Kufa to use the wheat, as the shield from the BG was corrupt in use. Change Kufa to Warrior.
Change Khurosan to Warrior.
Change Baghdad to Spearman.
I think we're ready, so I hit that enter key.

IBT - Polytheism comes in and we are now in the Middle Ages.
The "Big Picture" has us second to last, only ahead of Spain. Score is 329.
Set research onto 40-turn gambit for Engineering... Not that it'll succeed.
Damascus: Granary -> Worker. (Needs a bit of work still for a 2-turn worker factory.)
Mecca: Settler -> Spearman. At the risk of screwing up the timing, I know we can hit a 4-turn worker/settler combo if we can get to 10spt.
Najran: Worker -> Spearman.

Turn 1, 1175BC
The Kassite village is deserted.
Anjar is settled north of Basra. Production set to Warrior, due in 10.
Oh dear... I know why that archer is fortified now. Settling the west will have to wait, so the settler from Medina will go north to fish.
I can trade Polytheism for Lit + 12g, but I don't see the point to it as Lit isn't a tech we need.
Trade Spain Construction for Worker, 16g, & WM.
Trade around WM and net 15g.
Ottomans already know Engineering, so I switch the 40-turn gambit to Monotheism.

IBT - Chinese archer kills a barb.
Three horseman barbs impale themselves on the Chinese archer. Of the rest, half move towards us and half dance about.
Medina: Warrior -> Worker.

Turn 2, 1150BC
Three horseman barbs are poised to attack Khurosan. It has two warrior defenders; time to hope for some RNG luck.

IBT - China archer kills a horse.
Horsemen kill the archer, and now are poised to attack Khurosan next turn.
Kufah riots :smoke: No, the worker is not an MP, pindicator!

Turn 3, 1125BC
Trade WMs around and gain 10g more.
I am convinced that our warriors cannot hold out against the horsemen. I will spend all I can therefore.
Nobody will take a loan, so...
Buy Literature from America for 119g.
Buy a worker from Spain for Lit, 10g, and 2gpt.
Move all capable warriors out of Khurosan.

IBT - More horses advance now 18 strong. None have attacked yet.
Medina: Spearman -> Settler.
Ottomans have quite an SOD heading against Philadelphia.

Turn 4, 1100BC
Spain will trade 3 Indian workers for Construction, 24g, 6gpt, and WM. Too much to ask...
However, 2 workers + 1g trade even for Construction, and that's a deal I'll take.

IBT - Barbarians run off with 21g.
Ah, Ottomans are at war with Ghandi, not Lincoln. The units are only passing through.

Turn 5, 1075BC
Trading WM nets us 10g again.

IBT - Baghdad: Spear -> Barracks.

Turn 6, 1050BC
11g for WMs.
IBT - The Vikings settle on the wheat in the west! Right where I was planning to, as soon as the barbs left.
Damascus: Worker -> Worker.

Turn 7, 1025BC
China now has all the money; they must have pulled in Republic first, and Vikings have no money.
WMs only pull in 3g this turn.
IBT - Two barb horsemen die; a third kills a warrior at Khurosan.
Besra: Worker -> Spear.
Mecca: Settler -> Warrior.

Turn 8, 1000BC
Warrior kills horseman.
Barb camp visible to our north now.
WMs net 2g.
Vikings have learned Monarchy and traded it to get their gold back. Nobody will give us anything with our pittance (74g, 18gpt)
IBT - Vikings settle again...
Mecca: Warrior -> Settler

Turn 9, 975BC
Settler pair in Damascus -- I have no place to put them.
Settler pair in Khurosan -- Will try for a finish town NE of the Vikings' town.
Settle Fustat in the north as a fishing town. Set production to Temple, vetoable.
WMs net 4g.
IBT - Damascus: Worker -> Warrior. Once Damascus hits pop of 5 it can be a 2-turn worker factory.

Turn 10, 950BC
Change Mecca from Settler to Barracks. We already have more spots than settlers, and need a military now to take back the lands the Vikings stole from us.
Okay, I'm about half asleep now, so if some of the workers seem in :smoke: positions, that's why. I'm leaving the diplomacy to the next player as well.

Who wants to kick some Viking butt?
