After the weird all-videos-played-upside-down problem which was solved just by downloading a codec, I have another much more serious problem.

Each time I turn my monitor off, or when it goes on stand-by, instead of turning black it turns white and it keeps on being white ad infinitum until I cut its power.

It's very annoying, there is something seriously wrong with my monitor, and it won't let me sleep with the computer on, because it acts like a light bulb! (actually it's amazing how much light it can provide, I can go anywhere in the room and read a book, just with its light)

What should I do? (apart from the obvious "take it somewhere to be repaired) :) I've never heard or seen something like this before.

It's going white? Hell! Why do you want to fix it? You can charge computer geeks money to see thing thing!

Honestly.. I have no idea. That is strange beyond reason.

Best I can say is to check your monitor functions. I'll go on and assume it's not the brightness, because you only have the problem in stand-by. Also checking your computer's stand-by/screensaver settings could help.

I have a feeling that something in your monitors logic isnt telling it to turn off the backlight, or that its telling all of the pixels to fire at the same time, giving you the white color.

You should test said monitor with another computer, and if the same thing happens its likely a fault in the monitor and not your software/hardware configuration and should be taken to a repair shop or replaced.
