Hi, I just have a quick question to see what "everyone" here thinks:

Is a free anti-virus software adequate protection to a computer linked over a secure internet connection? (I have the latest AVG 7.5 Edition.)

If not, what would you recommend...going all out and paying a bunch of money to make sure I'm protected, or just upgrading to a lesser "full" Edition of an Antiviral software?

Should be in computers section.

I use
CCleaner
Spybot S&D
AVG
ADaware

All are free all work well.

Why so many?

Not all cover the same threats. Its like overlapping fields of fire. Even the ones you pay for don't cover all the bases.

obviously he watches a lot of porn ;)

i have AVC 7.5 as well. and a few others. the dude that fixes my computer put them on. he's pretty awesome so i just go with it.

Hey, you shouldn't be making assumptions, here! I could even be a female!

So, I should get other free software to cover threats that AVG doesn't?

you don't come off as a female, but i don't really care if you are or aren't. i get called a 'he' online, but i don't care.

These are good, although it should be made clear that AVG is the only anti-virus freeware up there. Using more than one can mess things up. Just stick with those and ZoneAlarm for firewall, which is free and works well also.

There are females on the net! Until I see you in real life those pics you say are yours in the member pic thread could just be of your hot sister.;)

A note on CCleaner. Make sure you know what your cleaning with it. You can erase a lot you don't want to.

The two best I've found so far are symantec corporate edition and NOD32 antivirus system. NOD32 OEM is cheaper and more efficient for the average user. It will not only protect against viruses but also spyware and trojans.

Symantec is designed for corporate environments where you have a server that provides the updates and an administrator to keep it all up and running smoothly. It essentially does the same thing as NOD32 but over a network.

alright people, thanks for your help in this matter.

as far as I have heard, my avg 7.5 free edition is pretty good but could use a secondary one to help with items not covered by avg...right?

LOL my older sister is not hot. my younger sisters are too young to be hot. :p

Well, you need spyware removers and a firewall, but NOT another antivirus. Having more than one can cause them to go loopy.

I prefer avast over AVG, since the last few months AVG has been funky with its definitions ( it taged a lot of harmless stuff, stuff that it left alone before, as infected ( it managed to tag a file it itself installed as infected too! ))
Also, HijackThis for random spyware and adware, as well as spybot SnD. I dont even need a firewall and never really have as I have not gotten infected all that much. Just make sure you scan suspicious files before you run them, and you should be good ( oh, dont visit crappy spyware infecting sites )

Same, I use Symantec corporate on all my machines, will switch to Nod32 or Kaspersky when I can't don't get free licenses Symantec for anymore.

Are you kidding me? The Zonealarm firewall works like crap, and it is designed to be that way, so you buy Check Point's other products.

Zone Alarm isn't that bad as far as I know; plenty of computer experts recommend it if you're not wanting to spend money.
