Antiquity sites lie about reasons for existing.

Irrelevant.
Many times since the last patch I've had antiquity sites claim that they came into being for reasons that simply aren't true; claiming that they were razed cities in areas that the alleged city owner had no access to in the time period or claiming they were barb camps pillaged by me that I never even knew were on the map. Is anyone else having this issue?

You were to late. Obviously someone else already plundered that antiquity sites and only left some red herrings to confuse you.

Maybe... if you dig even deeper...?

edit) oh, missed it's in bug report not general discussion :p

Yeah, this seems to happen fairly often. Maybe always when there weren't enough incidents to create the defined number of sites?
I mean when I just keep razing a million cities before getting to archaeology it won't increase the total number of antiquity sites either.

It would be WAY cooler if in this instance it said something like "You find an ancient relic from a bygone era!" and it was a Barbarian thing or even a new Prehistoric faction.

Suspect it is something like this: stuff happens, then maybe a site is created there. Then someone discovers archaeology and not enough sites have been placed, so it randomly places the difference and just makes up reasons for them.
