Any news on Steam preload?

It's getting near release time, any word about preloading on Steam? I hope they don't make us all download at the same time.

In the world of Steam the "expansion" is considered a DLC, and I have yet to see DLC be preload-able. It's probably not a big download anyway.

I hope you're right, but IIRC it was listed earlier as something like 6GB...

I do not think that God and Kings will have a proper pre-load option, but then again, it wouldn't be as bad. I mean, all of the required files will likely be put in a sub folder within the main Civ 5 folder like always, and the game could simply 'disable' until Steam will unlock the game.

It was said that you need 8GB available to install it, but that doesn't mean it's 8GB big.

But yeah, it's probably not exactly small.

8 GB is the full game plus the expansion, is it? Still, you got 9 new leader animation plus a bunch of new units, so that's a fair amount of graphics that needs to be downloaded.

Seems kind of goofy to not do preloading for prepurchases. It's also odd that I have torchlight2 prepurchased as well and it shows up in my library as a prepurchase whereas an xpac shows up as DLC.

I swear I despise Steam. Completely despise. Love some of Valve's games, hate their distro platform.

No, it's not going to be 8 GB.

Look up Civ 5 base game system req.. it's still says 8 GB.

My internet connection isn't very good because of where I live. Sure it isn't dial-up or satellite, but it's still poor. So downloading 6-8 gigs is going to take the better part of a day, or longer, so I hope the expansion is 3 gigs or smaller so it'll only take a few hours at most. Being added as DLC is annoying for me, as I'd rather be able to preload it so I can play it for sure on Tuesday. I don't expect it to be large, but you never really know. Some games are much larger than it seems they should be, and vice versa.

Well, I'm not sure about your work/sleep requirements, but you aren't exactly gonna be able to play the game starting at midnight anyway. I intend to leave Steam running while I'm doing something else (likely sleeping, considering my current sleep schedule) and that should give it at least 5 or so hours to have it downloaded and installed before I'm worried and firing it up.

Does anyone know exactly what time G&K will be available? I'm hoping midnight tonight, U.S. eastern time.

At this current time (7:50 CDT) it says 'approximately 16 hours' which puts it between 11PM and midnight CDT, so likely midnight Eastern.

14 hours and counting here in NA :D

I pre purchased it. It was in my steam library but the other day I got on there and it was gone. Contacted steam and was told to try a couple things. When those didn't work was told the game is still tied to my account and would be available on release..

Any one else having a similar problems

it's listed as dlc. Click on view downloadable content under civ 5 and you will see it.
