Any one else getting world builder not responding?

Possible work around for windows 7 users: run Civ V, Civ V Launcher, Mod Buddy, World Buillder in compatbility mod for xp sp3.

I haven't tested it out myself, but somebody on the steam fourms says it works.

EDIT: Other possible solutions:

* Start World Builder -> It is blocked on Loading screen
* Open a Command Prompt (Windows 7: Windows Menu -> cmd.exe)
* Type cd C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam
* Type steam.exe -applaunch 8930 \dx9 -Nexus 4320
* After few seconds/minutes World Builder will unfreeze

====

1 launch windows task manager (keyboard azerty -> ctrl+alt+del)
2 exit steam
3 launch SDK world builder via the exe in the steamapps civ 5 SDK folder
4 it and steam should load

EDIT 2: The last one seems to work for a lot of people. You can view the thread here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/8930/discussions/0/882966056463177513/#p3

EDIT 3: I can confirm the last method works for me. Windows 7.

Now, can anybody tell me how I am supposed to make one of those mega huge maps like the earth ones? Isn't the limit in the worldbuilder smaller than that?

This did not work.

World Builder Editor tool or just load the mod through the mod loader menu.
This did just open your map from your MODS. Right click, open with worldbuilder.

1. Go here C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\WWII European Theatre (v 2)

2. Right Click on your map (In my case, WWII European Theatre (v 2)). Where it says open with, select Civilization V World Builder. You can do this then you may have to restart your system to get it to work a second time.

Meh! I got it to open a few times messing around. Now it won't open again. At least I found out what difficulty to set the AI handicap too.

Third try, here goes.

Hey there,

I left a comment last night in the larger thread about this.

There is a bug in how WB checks for Steam connectivity. If you exit Steam before running WB the normal way it will work. If for some reason you don't have Internet connectivity just close Steam first and run it in Offline Mode when it asks. This works for me every time.

It looks like if I go directly to a map and rightclick, open with CiV WB, that seems to work. It takes a moment to load so just be patient.

I tried this a few times w/o restart and it works fine.

Correct. But even that wasn't working for me previously, but now it's working. I wonder what changed.

I don't know, because I was having trouble getting it to work earlier yesterday.

Androrc the Orc I just noticed your from Vienna. I was going to write a story about Austria-Hungary while playing my WWI scenario. Could I ask you some questions from time to time about Austria? Things you know that I never will, would go a long way towards bringing that bygone age back to life.

Sure, no problem (I'm not actually from Vienna, I have just recently moved here, but Austrian History is one of my main areas of study).

My Civ5 SDK will not load the World Builder. I removed and Reinstalled with no success at changing it. Can someone tell me how I can fix it?

Two things: First, there is a space between Files and (x86)\Steam
Secondly, make a new text file with the following lines in it.
Save it with the name {anything}.bat

-- The extension .bat will run in the command prompt automatically when you open it.

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
* Type steam.exe -applaunch 8930 \dx9 -Nexus 4320

So, nice a quick to fix.

I tried to transform the earth map of RFC (civ 4) into a civ 5 map. Map was created, civ placed, etc... and I succeeded to play on it !

But, of course, I found some errors. When I opened the worldbuilder to correct these errors, it never opened : my computer says the program doesn't answer.

Can someone explain me why, or what to do to be able to use it again? (If it can help, I got civ 5 on steam, and yes, I already tried to unistall-reinstall both civ 5 and sdk)

I had heard the last steam update broke worldbuilder temporarily, I havent used it recently but I saw steam did an update today when I started my computer so hopefully its working again

Thank you for moving my message to this thread, it had to be here. And I also found an answer in this page ! So double thanks ! (I actually stopped steam through task manager before launching SDK, and it worked)

I've used the world builder without trouble the past three years. Today, however, it doesn't get past the "Loading" screen. What might cause this, and how can I fix it? I tried googling phrases like "world builder stuck on loading screen" without finding useful information.

I tried temporarily disabling avast antivirus, which didn't help. I've had avast for years and it didn't give me trouble in the past. I also tried clearing the civ cache, and disabling mods in the Civ main mods interface (as those tend to get loaded up when World Builder loads).

I'm using the batch solution posted by Starfire in post #49

I tried posting this in technical support and received no help. I'm hoping someone here can help.

I use the worldbuilder a lot and everytime this evening that I try to open the SDK and then the worldbuilder it goes into a non-responding mode. Thanks for any help on this matter.

Edit: I can confirm one work around to get the worldbuilder to work. These are the steps I used to get it to work.
1. Restart computer, with Steam set so it will not auto start.
2. Find where the app file for the the worldbuilder is located. In most cases it can be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK\WorldBuilder\x86
3. Double click on the worldbuilder app to open and it should run.
Note: It will take longer to open than normal, but this is the only work around I have found to work on my system.

I'm running Win8 - after closing Steam (choosing Exit from the tray icon) and then launching worldbuilder, it worked. I noticed that it pops a "loading steam account" (or similar) window while loading - when it was hanging, it wasn't doing this - so if you launch and see it pop-up that window, chances are you're good to go.

The issue will be fixed, until then dshirk of Firaxis has posted a temporary workaround here.

Sorry to necro this topic, but World Builder wont start for me...
(i5 4670K, GTX 760, Windows 8.1 x64, 8GB RAM, Civ 5 G&K + BnW)

When I start SDK, I choose the World Builder and it starts loading. After a while I get an error message:"The Civilization 5 exe has crashed and can no longer provide services like mod info". I click OK, but after that the loading screen just sits there (0% CPU usage on task manager)

I tried the following already:
- closing steam and launching from the steam folder
- using the command prompt (just gives the same error message again)
- did the create shortcut option linked above

Anyone with the same problem? Anyone knows a fix?
