I have a switch and it's fun for playing Mortal Kombat or 'Luigi vacuums up Ghosts with his flashlight' but a big strategy game? Haven't trouble imagining that. I may have to buy just to see..

If and only if both criteria are met:

1. Cross-platform progress.
2. Stable performance and no significant game-breaking bugs.

Otherwise, I can't justify buying the same game twice, even with Switch's portability. Civ 6 failed on both criteria in my eyes.

I will buy Switch version if its not ported by Aspyr, they have no talent or resources to do anything good.

VI was abandoned by Aspyr after release, they didnt bother to fix it at all.

I'll be tempted but probably not until much later, and only when on sale. Switch 2 could change things.

Ultimately I think they have had to compromise too much to launch on the Switch. It doesn’t look like the same game.

Maybe they know something we don’t and it will be cross compatible with a Switch 2 whenever that comes out. Otherwise it feels like a lot of money to spend on a clearly inferior version of the game.

I’ve written in another thread some weeks ago that I believe that the switch version is a bit of an accident. Civ VI was highly successful on the switch. No surprise: it is just such a good match between platform and game that quite some people bought a second copy in addition to new customers. Many rumors (and believable ones as well) had the release for the switch 2 before civ VII‘s release. So, maybe FXS expected to bring it to switch 2, but now made it backwards compatible (with high loss of quality) until that comes out. Just my interpretation though, no hard facts.

I don‘t think it‘s worth its price on switch atm when you have other options. For me, I have a Mac, a PS5, and a Switch. I‘ll get the game on Steam for Mac/GFN at release and might consider a switch 2 version at some point if that version is close to the others. There‘s no chance I would buy the same game on Steam and PS5, honestly, but the mobile possibilities of the Switch 2 might be worth (a heavily discounted) 2nd copy at some point.

It should run on steam deck at 800p and that'll do me just fine

I've played VI on Switch, and playing on PC/Mac is definitely preferable in my opinion.

I’m glad folks on consoles have the option to play Civ on those platforms but Civ will always be a PC game for me.

CiVI was on sale at the Ninento eshop for five bucks so I got a copy. It ran for four minutes then crashed on my Switch.

I‘m sorry for you that you fell into that trap. I hope you can refund. The game lacks the final patches on some platforms, as well as dedicated patches that deal with crashes. It’s the same on mac: it’s playable but it will crash once an hour at random points. As it seems, these versions will never get fixed. I‘m honestly surprised they still sell it for full price at all on these platforms. Reviews about it might be hidden underneath earlier ones when the game ran better.

I think you should give it another try, though I haven't played for quite a while as I had to do a fresh reinstall because of my ageing Switch as the game's DLC and updates were split between the pitiful console's ROM and a micro SDcard and the game refused to boot up...these latest patches and leader pass messed up my copy of the game. I ran the game this year half a dozen times with no glaring errors, though it crashes sometimes, again the ageing console (mine's from October 2017) and the new content are definitely at odds with each other

But has I have written elsewhere and in Firaxis's recent survey...I am gonna wait for the Switch 2...nothing beats playing this game in your bed, in the throne and in your couch without hassle, but , alas it does nothing to fight against sleep deprivation

I have a Switch but am much more interested in whether they will get Civ 7 Steam Deck verified. Civ 6 was....fine on the Switch but I don't think I would buy it again on the platform.
