Anyone running 1280 x 1024???

I'm running in 1600x1200 on standard-sized maps, never had a single crash or lockup. Using medium settings, but high works OK too.

(P4 2.8, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1 GB PC3200 RAM, Win XP Pro.)

I run at 1280x1024...everything on medium, AA x4. It runs fine until I hit about the last 120 turns or so, then it slows down (diplomatic leader heads studder, end-game video and audio is choppy, 1 crash to desktop so far). P4 2.66, Radeon 9700 pro, 1gb ram, win XP.

Thanks for the input, people.

Hmm, it's so odd. I have all my drivers up to date, and still the game is performs badly at 1280x1024. It's fine at 1024x768, though. I would be very surprised if 2GB RAM would help -- does it really affect video performance that much? I mean doubling, VIDEO RAM I can understand, but system RAM?

Hey guys,

Can you run a stable game at 1280 x 1024 with everything maxed out?

I have a 6800 GT 256MB, and a gig of RAM on an Athlon 64 3200, and a 3 GB page file. I get crashes a plenty at the high resolution, but a stable game at 1024 x 768.

I have the exact same. Stable and running perfectly smooth. (1GB ram ofcourse)
* Check your MOTHERBOARD drivers
* Check you GFX drivers to latest version
* Check for spyware on your system.

If all that is ok.. you should not have any trouble.

i run 1440x900 on a 15" widescreen (xga) laptop. other than needing to follow the instructions here to get it running, and the occasional stray polygon, i've had no problems

p4 3.2mhz, 1gb ddr2 ram, dual 7200-rpm HD in raid-array (0), radeon ati 9700 256mb

I've pretty much a similar system, only with an GeForce6600GT and I always play at that resolution as it is the resolution of my LCD monitor.

I normally run large maps on epic. Prepatch I would run into performance problems late game. I had one game involving an all out war with tanks, bombers, etc and that one simply became unplayable, it crashed the moment I loaded it.
Postpatch it is too early to tell.

My CivIV crashed a lot before I set my 6800GT to standars clock @350MHz. I had a heat problem when I overclocked it, don't know if CivIV is very hard on my GC cause I havn't had this problem with my other new games... BF2 and CS:S run without any problems. So if your GC i overclocked try to set it to standard speed, both memory and GPU speed.

My monitor would only allow me to run at 1024x768. Is it really better to run it at a higher resolution?

Of course I have all graphics on max at this resolution and I'm happy with the way everything looks.

I am running 1900x1200 on my nice new laptop (Centrino 2.13 GHz, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 7800 GTX). Max settings (except for antialiasing). Very smooth, no crashes.

Worse machine but not a single crash.

I think a lot of people need to check their machines! Get prime95 and do some stress-tests of your machine! I think most of the ppl who complain don't realize that it's their machine that's malfunctioning and not the game. Oh, yea, the game may me badly optimized and uses too much power, but still, it's the machine that has a mem-issue and crashes.

My comp isn't the best (2500+ @ 2900+ and 1gig ram), but I haven't crashed once. It's slow (esp loading times) but quite enjoyable. Waiting times between turns and loading are better with new patch tho.

But seriously, get prime95 or something similar and test your computer. I bet you have some mem-problems that you didn't know of before.

Running that resolution right now, native for my Viewsonic VX912 LCD screen. Huge map, high settings on all and AAx2 with a Gainward 6600GT, 256MB. Not much choppiness at all. Wonder movies didnt work yesterday after I patched but thats it...

all stable at 1280x1024 (native res of my display), all maxed out
slow on large maps in later game when zooming out
6800 GT, 1GB RAM, AthlonXP3200

I'm running mine on 1280x1024 and 4xAA sumetimes 2xAA, all specs maxed out. It runs well, a lil slow down at end game, but easily playable..

On always Huge maps, with 18 civs.

Specs are 3.0 GHz pentium 4, 1gb ram, geforce 6800

My other computer slows much more, on a standard map with 8civs. 1024x768 resolution no AA and graphics turned down to at least meduim or low.

specs for this are 2.70Ghz intel celeron, 512mb ram, geforce 5200FX, still playable tho

Everything maxed out - game has always worked fine - no CTD, no slowdown, nothing...

2.8GHz, 2GB mem, Radeon X800XL 256MB vid card....

playing at 1920*1200 in my dell inspiron laptop computer running at 1,86ghz centrino, 256mb geforce 6800 go, 2 gig ram ... runs smooth and pretty all the way through modern era :)

and yes, everything at max ...

playing at 1280x1024
athlon xp 2600 oc @ 2800
64MB radeon 9000 pro
768 MB ram
no AA
max graphics.
playes fine with a little lag when moving units.
doesnt lag at all when in main menu with earth spinning

I can run it at a higher resolution, but the question would be... why would I want to?

Is there some switch you all know about that I don't? When I put the resolution above 1024x768 the interface becomes so damn small that the game isn't comfortable at 1280 and unplayable at 1600. I can't imagine what it'd be like for those of you playing higher resolutions, particularly on a screen as small as a laptop! Those little icons and the text are just too small. I have always hated that in many games. The graphics look nicer at better resolutions, and my video card can certainly handle them (6800 GT) but when the interface goes with it, it shrinks to where it's so small I can't enjoy the game.

Is there some way to scale the interface so that it stays larger and easy to read?
