AOL Class Action Scam?

I just got an e-mail from this thing called the Footer Settlement telling me that AOL is involved in some sort of class action suit. The e-mail tells me that I am liable for a large amount of cash if I participate and it gives me a website to go to for information.

I'm not as gullible as they think I am, so I didn't click the link to get attacked with a possible trojan virus or have my time sucked away for a bunch of legal garbage and a quarter of a penny. It's possible that this may be some new scam out there, so I'm letting you all know about this.

So has anyone else using AOL gotten this e-mail?

If it were real I bet there would be a lot more info on the email itself. I smell scam if it just says "you have money, go to website to claim your cash" which is pretty much what it boils down to...

It does give a handful of information on the e-mail, but it keeps reiterating that you should contact the site.

They'll contact you by snail mail if you have a legitimate claim.

It's a scam.

Email them, tell them you're interested. Then, when they ask for money, which they will, tell them you will give them lots of $$$, but first, they need to cover some expenses until you can get the money. They'll pay. Because like the normal victims of scam artists, they are greedy as well. You have to be clever about it though. If you make them think they're getting a huge cash payout, like they think you think you're going to to get, oh boy....!!!

I'm not sure if anyone else has this, but my anti-virus software has a program that pre-scans google links for potential threats. Every single link on that google page (Except for two, which were safe and unsafe) could not be scanned by my Antivirus software.

EDIT: Correction, TWO are unsafe and the safe one is yahoo answers.

Either that or it's just a hacker trying to trojan my computer.

You'd get a big envelope in the mail with all sorts of legal documents if you're possibly in a class. I just got one the other day -- there's captions and docket numbers and lots of information. It's not going to be an email asking you to go to a website.
