Apocalypto

I'll go the Ivory-Fish in the north west, as the happiness when we eventually get access to that Ivory tile, will help.

I assume it's OK to now flip into Slavery?

Writing > Fishing (binary while building Library?)

Will play within 12-24 hours providing no personal crisis.

I'm confused. Seemed like the group was leaning towards Horse/Wheat and thus fishing could be delayed.

Well I thought that it just got killed off as an idea;

But surely this city can wait, but I would think about not killing it with settling horse city.

The only other city that seemed to be getting any support was Ivory-Fish and that there was some support for getting Fishing as a tech'. I figured that I'll settle the other 'safe' city and 'run binary' after we get Writing in anyway so if Fishing isn't supported, at least the :science: contribution would be negligible.

hmm

I think I wasn't against settling horse next, just wanted to settle it in a way that the southest wheat will be option to settle on...
now I realize that team talked about settling "horse+wheat" spot and not "horse+cow+cottages from capital" spot as I imagined :-)

Maybe it would be wisest that someone draws dotmap of cities on our peninsula so we could discuss it and maybe even vote on spots, there seems to be some heavy confusion on all sides going.

I started with the horse-wheat, the rest followed fluidly.

Starting with a city on the wheat (claiming the fish), I didn't manage to come up with something decent.

If horse-wheat goas coastal, it's hard to make use of the unused tiles that leaves behind; it would require to split the 'filler' city into 2 even worse 'fillers'. If we don't go GLH (which we shouldn't imo), I wouldn't settle horse-wheat coastal.

Imo: horse-wheat 1st, fish-ivory 2nd, then claim some land towards the jungle. settle northern 'filler' around the time we tech calender.

MH's dots look fine to me, though I'd probably put the northern filler on the coast and would probably not bother with the southern one. But those are obviously not a short term issue anyway. I'd settle horse/wheat now and not wait long for fish/ivory.

I wouldn't settle southern filler either, northern fillers exact location can be debated later. I'd settle Horse/Wheat now as well, followed by Fish/Ivory pretty fast.

Yep, northern filler should go on coast. We will want that spot for the resources, but it can wait until after calender. I would settler southern sheep 1SW of that spot. I'd rather have 3 more workable tiles than the whales - i don't think we'd ever settle the other city down there anyway.

ok I see I will be overvoted... but no one thought about spot 1 NE from horses? shares cows from capital, has 1st ring spice and horses and has 1 silk... there is lake for more food (farms)...

it should have good production pre-200 AD since those hills for wheat+horse in current location do nothing and cows from capital are stronger tile then nonirrigated wheat.

My preference is still as per #81 ... Fish-Ivory extends Ivory our only pre-Monarchy/Maths/200AD happiness resource. If tech' is our best weapon, then getting an extra happiness point in every city should serve us well for a while, and as such I propose that this is where our current Settler should go. I'd be prepared to consider the city spot 'filler' on Mike's map in the north as an alternative, as it's a riverside Plains Hill that picks up the Ivory, both Silks, the Spice, and two riverside Grasslands, but I'm interpreting that the roster prefers the coastal Fish option.

Do we need Horses 'that' quickly, or could we wait for 'say' a dozen turns before settling somewhere near the Horses? I have no great objection to almost any tile that picks up those Horses in terms of city placement, but 1N of Horses looks good to me if we're to later settle on the south west Wheat to get the Fish (there's no city centre +1:food: bonus for settling on Wheat, but still I'd hate to leave those Fish untouched). I'm happy enough to otherwise roll with either of Mike's or vran's alternatives for the respective reasons earlier outlined if 1N of the western Horses is not supported. Barbarian Axes might be a problem for us in time, but I feel we can risk going without Horses for a few more turns.

The trouble I see with fish/ivory next is it will take 15 turns to slow build a monument and another 10 before we can work the fish or ivory. It also means we must tech fishing after writing. Not that we shouldn't but it sort of limits us.
Horse/wheat can get the monument in 5 turns using the PH from capital which means in 15 turns we can start improving its tiles.
I'd like to see us station a sentry on the forested hill to our NE - hopefully we can get some easy xp's on a unit.
On Mike's dot map I'd move sheep/whale 1W - more grass to cottage and can borrow wheat from capital (if we want) plus snags a few hills and more or less eliminates need for filler.

In summary:

Not perfect … we lost a spawnbuster close to home unfortunately, but otherwise things seemed to go OK. Met Montezuma. The plan was to bring back our 10XP unit, but I used Aztec's land to move him across, rather than running him through the jungles. Mutal now has a Library and a Granary.

Turn 55 | Opening | 1800BC

Micro-ed Lakamba as per lymond’s proposal.
Settler headed to Wheat-Horse, which seemed to be the group preference.
Revolted to Slavery.

Turn 56 | Turn 1

chaacal3_1400bc_chicken_pizza.jpg

Work the Plains Hill for a Monument.

A Barbarian Warrior is uncovered on the west coast.

Turn 57 | Turn 2

We have our first Health resource. It’s Wheat! Yay!

The Oracle BIAFAL

Turn 58 | Turn 3

:coffee:

Turn 59 | Turn 4

Lakama: Monument > Holkan

Science tweaked down to 90%:science:, Writing in 1.

Sitting Bull converts to Huayna Capac’s Hinduism.

Turn 60 | Turn 5

chaacal3_1400bc_writing.jpg

Opt for Aesthetics.

Eventually decide to Open Borders with Montezuma. And the 10XP Warrior goes through Aztec borders to get from east to west.

Science down to 0%:science:

Mutal: Granary (interrupt) > Library

Turn 61 | Turn 6

Barbarian from the west approaches Mutal’s Cow Pasture.

Turn 62 | Turn 7

Decide to take north west spawnbuster away from spot onto a hill to be adjacent to the Barbarian Warrior. Lakamba also gets a Barbarian Warrior heading its way.

Mutal’s Library is whipped.

Turn 63 | Turn 8

Spawnbuster on hill dies. Mutal’s Warrior comes out to meet the Barbarian who continues to threaten Mutal’s Cow Pasture.

Mutal: Library > Granary

Turn 64 | Turn 9

Lakamba holds with the first Barbarian attack accounted for – garrison now has another promotion available.

Barbarian on Mutal's Cows is killed off.

Mutal: Granary > Warrior

Science increases to 100%

Turn 65 | Turn 10 | 1400BC

Finally realise that we’ve not allocated :espionage: on anyone, and put it on Huayna Capac.

A Barbarian is adjacent to Lakamba, noting that the garrison has that promotion.

Mutal’s old Warrior should make his way to a spawnbusting spot to the north west of our area.

The 10XP unit is still in Aztec lands (I hope that’s OK) but can slowly head south if the roster prefers.

How nice, also the Aztecs for a nice Indo-American continent.

You haven't really been working that awful 2h tile in horse/wheat for the past 9 turns, have you? I'm also not entirely convinced by Lakamha's micro. Why aren't we working the FP? I think this city should have been whipped (more).

Chichen Itza ... following instructions from others on the roster.

Lakamba ... was working Floodplain ... switched on the last turn to get Holkan out in two. Then you 'could' look at another Settler for Ivory-Fish out of there after that - therefore population is at happy cap.

Got it.

Whoops that PH was my idea to get monument quickly to start working better tiles.

Loose thoughts - move southern warrior S
the NW warrior to grass 1E of jungle

I will have a closer look at the save later and come up with some sure-fire way to bring us down. :D

:eekdance::faint:

In that case I'm glad nobody suggested to delete the settler. :p

When I read Norvin's comment that it would take 5 turns, then I was like okay, supposing that PH was mined or at least would be mined soon. However, working a bare 2h tile can never be a good idea if there's a 2f1h tile around, presumably that's common wisdom, right? At least that worker should then have mined it asap, instead of building those roads to the horses or the as yet unused cottage. Well, this being a friendly SG I can't really be bothered about it frankly, but if this were SGOTM I'd be a bit pissed now...

I still think Lakamha should get a library asap and that we should try to get the GS from there.

yeah really what's all this with not mining anything! :smoke:

looks good from the description.

I guess expansion paired with teching and guarding against barbs is the way to go. I wouldn't invest much into infra, except maybe worker->granary whip OF.

We should think about running 2 specs in library city (I guess it is Mutal) at happy cap.

Btw got Nadia Grell for my Jedi Sage finally in SW:TOR! Awesome game i tell you.

Initial plan:

Mutal - grows next turn -hire scientist finishes warrior for garrison then holkan

Lakahma - after holkan (which gets sent NE so long as barb is dead) then worker

Chichen - stops working dismal PH (to keep nocho breathing) after monument completes next turn then starts granary

western worker will start to cottage around Chichen eastern will head to rice after completing current cottage

Put chichen on that cottage after the monument completes.

Woody should make his way back south. Don't forget that he can move 1 tile per turn in jungle to avoid barbs.

Mutal can start a settler after growth and switch off to grow as the unhappy wear off. Laka can build a settler at some point too, but I'd like to get 1 or 2 more Holkans out. Not sure we should run a scientists until Mutal grows back and gets out at least 1 settler.
